People who believe in honesty and morals should read Schopenhauer for one…

Schopenhauer

But only if you want to be a grumpy old man the rest of your life and live alone with a poodle or to confirm your own pessimistic antidotes

The conviction that the world, and therefore man too, is something which really ought not to exist is in fact calculated to instill in us indulgence towards one another: for what can be expected of beings placed in such a situation as we are? From this point of view one might indeed consider that the appropriate form of address between man and man ought to be, not monsieur, sir, but fellow sufferer, compagnon de misères. However strange this may sound it corresponds to the nature of the case, makes us see other men in a true light and reminds us of what are the most necessary of all things: tolerance, patience, forbearance and charity, which each of us needs and which each of us therefore owes.

Or you are just saying that to keep people blissfully ignorant so that people who do get it can profit of them while they never wonder why, why does this happen to me while i’m a good hardworking person… Its not to become grumpy or pessimistic it’s to arm yourself, to let truth be your shield…

There's plenty of philosophers without a completely depressing and pessimistic outlook on the world and they use truth to not be pissed off all the time like schopenhauer was so I'm good

I think you confuse taking lessons or going in to deep…

nope, I watched a 15 min video on him and it just wasnt resonating with me at all, trust me I have no problem going as deep as possible into anything. To me it just seemed like an overall pessimistic person looking for dreary reasons in things that weren't inherently dreary. Like the commenter above said subjecting yourself to that just confirms your own pessimistic anecdotes. What makes philosophy special to me is the ability to look indifferently at life and not overly optimistic or pessimistic, seeing it for what it is. Schopenhauer clearly viewed things thru a pessimistic lens which I personally do not want to subject myself to.

Like, nope, I played with a Ferrari toy car bought at Best Buy for 17 minutes, and my conclusion:

I’ll never buy a Lamborghini
