Supergirl, Clayface, the Superman follow up and The Batman Part II (although not DCU) are all next.

If all of those land, DC might see one of the best comebacks they had.

Clayface is so lucky WB doesnt have any expectations for it to be a massive hit, if it performs like a typical Blumhouse movie then its a win.

Supergirl on the other hand, a female-led superhero movie in space. Its going to cost a lot for the CGI. Even Superman had wonky CGI at times.

no he's going to be the main villain tho

Lobo won’t be the main villain, krem of the yellow hills is. He’s already been cast, and is the villain of the comic.

and how do you know this?

Because I’ve read the comic that Gunn said this movie was a direct adaption of? The story is about supergirl, Krypto, a young girl named Ruthye, and Krem of the Yellow Hills.

As far as how I know that Krem was cast: https://www.reddit.com/r/DCU_/comments/1fpk8hb/matthias_schoenaerts_has_confirmed_his_casting/

And here’s Ruthye’s casting: https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/1ggqjth/supergirl_adds_eve_ridley_as_ruthye_marye_knoll/

Edit: this part is entirely speculation, but I think that lobo is likely taking the place of the Brigand captain in the comic, who is an unnamed minor antagonist.

lobo is anti hero not the villain

Even better. He's the Main Man.

Wonky just means a lil rough around the edges which is fair. Most of the movie still looked fantastic imo.

Agreed. I am very hopeful for DC with Gunn. But still The Batman is supposed to be part of DC Studios as Elseworlds though so it’s still within their line of films.

I do think supergirl should move its dates, it has minions, moana(live action) and Toy Story 5 which could hurt the movie. I think a March release or an early June release

We’ll see . As things stand, with Superman “only” making 600, and F4 not even 500. I don’t see Supergirl making good money.. it depends on the trailers, the marketing and will the movie bring something unique that speaks to ppl, maybe, but based on all this I don’t see them making big at least until the Batman at the end of 2027

i believe budget will be less than superman. Now that DCU has some good will it might do a bit better than 2.5x multiplier. Hopefully closer to 3x or 4x

As a GL fan I’m hopeful for the show and I desperately need it to succeed.

I’m a Superman fan, but I am right there with you because the Green Lantern mythology, IMO, is the best in all of the mainstream DC. frankly, I don’t think there’s such a thing as too much Green Lantern content.

I adore supes, and Batman is amazing….but we have a TON of content with them. I understand why and it makes sense. But I really want t people to see what I see in GL.

u/Realshow 10h ago

I’m not an especially big GL fan but the fact they haven’t made Dex-Starr a household name already is maddening.

Krypto dragging Superman slowly forward.

I love these movies. I don’t give a fuck how much they make.

8

u/Night247 17h ago

you should care because that is the only way we get more of these movies

if they don't make enough it all slows down a lot or completely stops

although for Superman it's already at a good enough point with money made

Yeah but daily updates is annoying

It makes zero sense how james gunn announces that domestic sales werent doing well because of american sentiment in the 2nd week of box office release, then all of a sudden the sales increase after that but fail worldwide. Warner bros is paying these domestic tickets. Movie was a flop

5

u/suss2it 14h ago

You’re right that doesn’t make sense because the domestic numbers are great. 3rd highest of the year so far.

-2

u/[deleted] 13h ago

But if the movie is so good, why wont people worldwide watch it? Makes zero sense. Artificial numbers

2

u/suss2it 13h ago

Sorry this just doesn’t make any sense. Sometimes movies are more successful in one demographic compared to others. Not even the first time we saw this happen this year. Sinners was also a major domestic success while barely making any noise internationally, same with Wicked from last year.

1

u/[deleted] 12h ago

Superman is loved internationally. Sinners appeals to a demographic specifically. And especially wicked, that only appeals to the theatre kids.

Gunn fans with an out of the blue Snyder slight. Comon bruv. Be happy Gunns film is doing fine. Sheesh.

Edit: every time Gunn fans shit on Snyder for no reason they delete their comment when called out. Literally every single time, and they wonder why there's a split with fans.

I think you should focus on understanding the words you're using before trying to look clever with them, as well as reading what you're referring to to make sure you're actually making sense.

Domestic means US based. James Gunn's comments about anti-American Sentiment were in regards to international box office takes. The Domestic box office was about what was expected. International was lower but they understood and considered why.

One could then extrapolate based on the feedback of the film that despite said anti-American sentiment, the reason it's had some legs internationally is that people heard the film was good and went to see it.

So still behind man of steel that wb said was a failure

13

u/Picklerick310 19h ago

Different times and different expectations .. 2010s were the golden age of comic book movies. after Covid, comic books lost the Chinese Market and won’t ever get it back

2

u/suss2it 14h ago

I don’t think WB considered Man of Steel a failure, they followed it up with BvS by the same director. Compare that to how they reacted to Superman Returns.

Looks like a Superman movie with Superman still fails. What’s your point?
