Can other major left leaning states do the same thing?

u/angeredtsuzuki Aug 01 '25
NY's gov said she'd do the same.

Imagine regaining the blue seats lost in 2024? Iirc, NY was one of the few states responsible for keeping the House red.

Sadly, this is the only way. The supreme court won't do the right thing until it's hurting their team.

I'm sure they'll come up with a reason why gerrymandering is perfectly acceptable in Texas but blatantly unconstitutional in California and New York.

When they go low we should kick mud in their face. Sorry Michelle.

u/Emily_Postal Aug 01 '25
We have to fight dirty like they are.

Gerrymandering is bad and we should have nonpartisan districting committees. But if Republicans are gonna do it in every state Democrats should too, it’s only fair.

Who nets more?

u/penguincheerleader Aug 01 '25
California has more room to gerrymander and more total seats.
19
u/revfds Aug 01 '25
How can he? They have an independent redistricting committee in their constitution.

u/GilgameDistance Aug 01 '25
It’s easy. Ask Utah how.
Fuck ‘em, time to play the same way.

u/moretrumpetsFTW Aug 01 '25
cries in moderate Utahn
Our petty Republican dictatorship doesn't care about the rules out here.

u/GilgameDistance Aug 01 '25
Me too, my man, me too.
We told them what we wanted, they pulled “daddy knows best” and a bunch of idiots still re-elected them.

u/moretrumpetsFTW Aug 01 '25
At least we stuck it to them on HB256. Can't wait for that beat down at the ballot box.

What am I missing. In California dems can pick up 9 seats. In Texas republicans can pick up 13.

Gerrymandering can't get you ALL the seats.

u/PhysicsMan12 Aug 01 '25
Thanks!
Edit: darn I was hoping this video would specifically describe Texas and California right now. But it looks to be a bit old

u/catch10110 Aug 04 '25
Sorry, that one talks about just the process. They already know how they will divide the districts up to achieve the best possible outcome for each party.
I think Texas may have already come out with their map because Jasmine Crockett was talking about how the new boundaries are so egregious they've made it so she (and several others) no longer even live in their districts.

Scotus not around so do it. While we can lock in and tilt the house back.
They will ruin us otherwise
33
u/HilariouslyPissed Aug 01 '25
We lost the house when Florida’s gerrymandering took the house Seats. We ave nothing to lose…. We are on the way to split our country

u/AutoManoPeeing Aug 01 '25
SCOTUS: "It's legal for Texas and illegal for California. It says it right there in the Constitution!"
12
u/Gallalad Aug 02 '25
I am not gonna pretend I like this. Gerrymandering is wrong by default... but America doesnt seem to be in a position to have the luxury of taking the high road right now.

At this point, the only way to fight back is to use their tactics against them. I'm all for it.

I’d say we should do it in MA, but we already have a fully blue congressional delegation, as does much of New England. Still, I suppose we could make it even harder for Republicans to win, metaphorically kick them while they’re down.

u/FIZUK9 Aug 01 '25
This is so cowardly to be doing this on the defensive. These Dems need to do this shit on the offensive and stop always trying to shield the attack, but bring some. It’s just controlled opposition.
22
u/penguincheerleader Aug 01 '25
"It is so horrible the Democrats agree with me, fuck them for that."
Boohoo, grow up.
-8
u/CMDRPeterPatrick Aug 01 '25
This is not going to happen. California has an independent redistricting commission that is required to meet once every 10 years. Any moves outside of that would be a legal nightmare in the courts.
12
u/penguincheerleader Aug 01 '25
Ballot initiative appears to be the preferred approach to the issue.

I hope, behind the scenes, Newsom has contacted every single blue state and, in solidarity, the moment Texas redirects, all of them drop new maps.
