Agreed. And Superboy Prime did just reappear for the DC KO event

She does have a miniseries finishing up where she takes on Weapon X-31 (the Gwen Stacy reanimated soul-and-all back in Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy) before the two team up against the real enemy: classic versus series shenanigans. Kate Bishop is also in it, spinning out of Gwen Poole and her having been living together and raising Jeff the Land-Shark the past several years.

What connections these two have?
6
u/Environmental-Net190 18d ago
Both were regular people that came from the real "our" world and got stuck inside comic books and then both became superheroes and supervillains that resembles heroes from DC and Marvel. (Super Boy Prime resembles Superman and Gwenpool resembles Gwen Stacy and Deadpool)

Oh cool

u/RealJohnGillman 18d ago
That being said, Gwen Poole doesn’t resemble anyone else in-universe — from a real-world perspective her costume was originally designed for such a mashup before being repurposed for an original character — like how Jessica Jones started out as a Jessica Drew redesign.

You know, I see this matchup a lot, and I dont get the connections at all. Can someone inform me?

Superboy-Prime: boy from the real world transported to the DC Universe, with powers akin to a god (Superman).
Gwen Poole: girl from the real world transported to the Marvel Universe, later gaining power akin to a true god.
Basically isekai protagonists but for different fandoms.

I never knew Superboy-Prime was from the real world, I always thought he was just an evil Superman from an alternate universe
2
u/RealJohnGillman 18d ago
Basically he was a DC fanboy whose parents named him Clark Kent, and because of that (his name) he was then considered a Superman on being transported in the DC Multiverse, being impossibly considered to have both backstories (being from the real world and being the last son of Krypton, though the real world obviously would not have had one). Using his knowledge to counteract all of Superrman’s weaknesses in himself — he was also the one who originally brought Jason Todd back to life (adaptations leave him out of the story).

I'm still kinda confused on this match-up what are the connections exactly

u/RealJohnGillman 18d ago
They’re both isekai protagonists but for Marvel and DC.
Superboy-Prime is a boy from the real world named Clark Kent by his parents and transported to the DC Universe with the powers of the real Superman, and using what he knows to negate Superman’s weaknesses and be akin to a god (sometimes reinvented as a villain).
Gwen Poole is a girl from the real world transported to the Marvel Universe, wanting to escape her problems for adventure but finding it more existential than ever, and likewise also accidentally eventually using her knowledge to gain access to something essentially making her god-level (though she’d prefer not to be).

There are arguments that Gwen's hax scale above Prime's. I don't buy those arguments, but there are arguments.
But even if Gwen were the most powerful reality warper in comics, her physical abilities are street level. Prime would turn her into a fine red mist in like 0.1 microseconds, and then her ghost would go possess Spider-Man or something.

u/RealJohnGillman 18d ago
I’d say her physical abilities are more based on belief than anything else, whether she chooses to respect the narrative or see her opponents as merely ink on a page.
Like when she defeated Foom in the latest series just after Foom had defeated the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four — Gwen had missed the exposition saying Foom had gotten a power-boost, treated him like an Issue One intro-villain as a result, and defeated him almost effortlessly, then proceeded to struggle against regular goons. The goons were more of a threat because Gwen believed them to be at that time — if she had been told Foom had gotten a power-boost after she’d defeated him, the act of being told that could have then led to Foom’s return, since Gwen no-longer believed she should have been able to defeat him.
Consistent with her defeats of Paste-Pot Pete and Doom in her original series — what had specifically caused each to return (Vinnie thinking it had been too easy, and Gwen agreeing, leading to Doom immediately then returning, then Gwen doubting her own capabilities later on, and Pete likewise immediately returning — one could make the argument that if Gwen had not had that self-doubt, her victories would’ve remained absolute).
