Can someone explain to me what happened to Amit Mishra? Just checked his stats, actually great in limited overs (although too small of a sample size I get it), average in Tests though. With Ashwin in and out of the limited overs side, could he have been a permanent part of the set-up?

Yes, he was a great all format leg spinner. Perhaps some issues outside the cricket field or in the dressing room.

Awful fielder. India produces spinners in bunches, so between the lack of consistent batting and shoddy fielding, he was expendable.
Same deal as Yuzi

Indian spinners were always shit at fielding. Ashwin Kuldeep Chahal Mishra Harbhajan.
Jadeja and Axar are rare breeds.

Already had 2 amazing spinners who also batted basically (Ashwin and Jadeja).
3rd spinner was often Yuvraj in limited overs. Hell, even Raina chipped in with a few overs in the middle.
Mishra IMO was the best limited overs spinner India had, but the all-round talents and possibly the relationships with Dhoni of Ashwin and Jadeja (though I don't think the latter is the case, but a lot of folks would argue otherwise) edged him out.

Yeah. Let’s remember he was also an awesome stick. One of the legends of the game

It's a sub about batsmen getting bowled. Videos of him getting bowled are a testament to the bowler rather than anything against ABD.

Ik it's crazy
but I also genuinely believe that AB just had more pure talent than most any player.
Literally one of the most talented players ever.

I think he had an immense level of hand eye coordination. Also his awareness of the match situation and what the bowler's gonna bowl next.

Yeah it's an incredible shame that his career came to an end like that.
He definitely had atleast 5 more years in international cricket at the level he was playing.

Actually he was well past his prime. You can check his last IPL/BBL season. He was held back for death overs like MS. In the Death he could still have been great but RCB got DK anyways.

Yeah but I think most of that was the eye problem I could be mistaken tho but man great player phenomal talent

Mishra was perhaps one of the greatest leg spinners of all time. Too bad! He didn't play much.

I followed cricket closely in the times amit mishra was around the team. The actual issue with him was that he was great at traditional spin bowling - flight, turn, bounce, flipper, googly but not as good when trying to use more modern approaches like using pace off the pitch, being skiddy and still be threatening. Once he got hit for couple of shots, he would bowl absolutely harmless sliders.
