Discussion Logged into Destiny and just sat in orbit chatting to my friends instead of playing the game
I logged in last night and I was going to play some Master Frireteam Ops. Then I looked at the modifiers and I thought, 'why bother? ' There was no grenadier or brawler so I knew it was going to be a slogfest.
I played one game of Heavy metal to get some rewards and then I just sat in orbit and chatted to my friends.
I'm 360 light and I've just given up on the power grind. I can't be bothered running Caldera again and I don't feel regret about it either. Lots of people have talked about this and highlighted how pointless most of the game is now and I have to agree. I don't feel any incentive to get higher light and I've ran the same portal activities many many times.
Looks like it's time for a break and I've never taken a break in Destiny since it started.

PVE has lost all sense of purpose. Just cards/activities on a screen. All emersion into their world is gone. There’s no story, no innovation. The game ended with The Final Shape.. and anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves.

u/rastlun 1d ago
This is what I feel after coming back after time off.
Is it convenient? Yes. Does it take away nearly all of the mmo aspect that the game tried so hard to build (even if flawed), also yes.
I'd rather they organize weekly activities more like helldiver's. Make me feel like I'm part of a bigger war. This week we need you on Neptune patrols, or there's a cabal rebel hiding out in the EDZ. Right now running missions on a screen feels so pointless.

u/Daralii 1d ago
We had that in the form of Flashpoints, and Bungie got rid of them because of low engagement. They could have developed the concept beyond grinding events, bounties, patrols, and lost sectors to get a pinnacle(or whatever the nomenclature was at the time), but just cutting it is much easier.

Find some new games, there is so much out there right now. I know it's sad but quitting Destiny 2 was unironically one of the best decisions I've ever made

u/hotsaucevjj 1d ago
Same, I've been using my previous Destiny time to play the new NMS expansion and replay cyberpunk and am absolutely loving both

u/Voidfang_Investments 2d ago
Yes, because they made Destiny your second job. Instead of “working” you want to hang out by the coffee machine.

u/ItalianDragon Heroes never die ! 2d ago
Yeah Bungie seems to want D2 to be just like what GTA Online is for Rockstar: a soulless thankless grind without end.
12
u/ZavalasBaldHead Gambit Classic // Baldy OG 2d ago
Just don’t play. If you log in, it tells Bungie that you’re OK with the status quo.
15
u/Outrageous_Parsnip25 2d ago
I do this every day after using my tokens in Rising, Then ultimately end up back on Rising. I've simply more meaningful items to farm there.
Honestly, I think this dlc and the changes that came with it have set this game back a couple years. They've effectively sunset like 90% percent of the game without actually removing it. It sucks.
5
u/Sneaknife 2d ago
I'm 315 power on my main. 301 on alt. Haven't touched my hunter. Log in and only play what i want. Power gain actually discourages longer playing.

u/bunny__hat 2d ago
me to my gf after doing 1 activity: "ok, what now?"
me, sitting in orbit and reading the recent article: [does a CTRL+F on "reduce" and "increase"] hmm..so more nerfs coming..great

u/FornaxTheConqueror 2d ago
Man the last time I felt like this I took a break from CoO to Season of Plunder

now take the next step and stop logging in at all. Giving B login numbers is just showing them that the current system is working

I'm just waiting for the Ash and Iron update. I stopped grinding when it stopped being fun.

u/Rob-Gaming-Int 2d ago
I tend not to be negative where possible regarding Destiny 2, but I'm sitting at 202 and I don't want to run activities to get higher since it'll be reset anyway.. I really enjoyed the new story missions, and trying to finish up the extra quests on Keplar but that's about it
I don't know how people are grinding to 300+, seems crazy lol
5
u/Alarming-Employee791 2d ago
I have been running solo strikes and it’s ok for a few runs but even that gets boring. Sometimes I help people with the campaigns but it takes awhile to find someone who is doing that. Tired of the portal as well but if I don’t play that then I can’t get unstable cores so build crafting is out of reach if I want a decent LL not to mention needing prisms and ascendant shards. Destiny is the only game I have enjoyed the last few years but I think it’s time for me to find something new I just don’t know what.

You know something's broken when the mobile gacha version of the game somehow has a more enjoyable grind
23
u/Magenu 2d ago
It's week one of a gacha. People are gonna be raging when the rug gets pulled.
0
u/Transformersaddicto 2d ago
People say this argument as if bungie hasn't done it with all the pre-BL expansions and every season ever released, the worst case scenario is that the rug pull is as bad as D2s have been so far.
2
u/Magenu 2d ago
I must've missed the part where Bungie put MTX that affects the game and gacha pulls into Destiny 2 that require $$$ to compete with other players.
1
u/Transformersaddicto 2d ago
Before I even address that completely inaccurate statement, out of curiosity have you even tried the game? If so have you gotten anywhere near activities like the raid? Or have you not even played it and are just shit talking it without any actual real experience in it, and thus have an invalid opinion on the game?
0
u/Magenu 1d ago
I said the gacha is gonna get cranked up once people are hooked. You claimed Bungie already did that in BL. Please tell me exactly how Bungie started cranking MTX/gacha up? Cause I'm not seeing it.
Wait, you think vaulting = gacha? They've been very upfront with vaulting for years, and it's a seasonal model; D2 ain't alone in this.
1
u/Transformersaddicto 1d ago
That is not what I said and you know it. I was referring to the act of a "rug pull" and compared this predicted rug pull by netease on the mobile game to the rug pull Bungie pulled by deleting all pre-BL content, and contains to delete seasonal stories and activity types.
3
u/Magenu 1d ago
I was clearly referring to gacha games making the game more P2W after the honeymoon period; it's a known phenomena in the industry, giving free pulls and "boosted rates" at first, and then removing them later on, where people start dropping cash to hit the dopamine pulls/compete in endgame.
And again, Bungie never rug-pulled with vaulting; they clearly communicated what they were doing and why.
And again seasonal models removing content is not Bungie exclusive.
It would be cool if vaulting didn't happen, but it did. No use crying over spilled milk.
1
u/Zayl 1d ago
In a small way that is happening. There's a 15% increase to score for an activity that you only have if you buy the battlepass. It is a pretty significant increase to scoring. Given that it takes about 80h of extremely efficient grind to get to 450 that would mean over 90h if you don't pay. And if you're not simply grinding caldera every day the actual amount of hours is undoubtedly way higher.
0
u/Minaryte Drifter's Crew 2d ago
I know, not my first gacha but not my point. The activities are entertaining and varied. Doesn't really matter how long you have to grind something if you don't get bored in the process imo.
6
u/Magenu 2d ago
You're in the honeymoon phase. It's been a single week.
Come back in a month and let's talk lmao.

It’s amazing how hard people are glazing this game and shows that some people have zero idea what they’re talking about.
People bitch about champions and the featured gear “limiting their build options” and D Rising not only has champion equivalents but weapon types are forced per character with like 3 variants between them. Talk about forced loadouts. There’s zero build crafting to speak of, only leveling up. Which is funny because people complained about Bungie forcing them to unlock a subclass during a campaign which is exactly what DR is doing right now, and it’s tied to RNG from the draw system. DR is full of reused assets, design concepts and direct rips from D2- it’s okay when Netease does it, just not when Bungie does it. People are tired of fighting the fallen, vex, and cabal in D2 but no complaints about them in DR yet. People complain about drip fed content and DR is doing the same thing and they’re doing it because if they didn’t people would have blown through the entire game in a few days and had nothing to do. People bitch about eververse but this entire game is designed around you spending money because as the week has gone on it becomes extremely clear to me as a FTP player that my progress is approaching a brick wall. It’s a GATCHA GAME for christs sake. It wasn’t made to deliver an amazing game experience because people had a story to tell and wanted to build a world to experience it. It’s designed for dopamine hits and cash flow. Get you hooked and get you investing.
You’re right. It’s fresh and new. I’m having a lot of fun playing it! There’s a lot D2 can learn from the game. But to sit here and act like it’s better than D2 is laughable when it shares the exact same things that the community complains about, and is even more egregious about it.

I noticed that since I got to 400 it's the least amount of Destiny I have ever played.
I had read several posts about how bad it is after reaching 400 and man, they weren't kidding.
I log in, look at the modifiers, if grenadier/brawler isn't there, I just logout. If one of those is there, then I play a few games and then I'm out.
Ash and Fire is a few days away and it's the least exited I've ever been for an update.
I was going through my PS games and noticed that I had gotten Borderlands 3 a while back but I had never downloaded it. With all the Borderlands 4 talk going on right now, I said what the hell and installed it. My biggest gripe with the game right now...too much loot. I kid you not. Being rewarded for your time? What is that?

u/Longjumping-Ad-3425 2d ago
EoF is the expansion I didn't buy. I still lurk here hoping things will get better and I'll hop back in. For now I'll just look forward to BL4 and BF6.
2
u/FinalForerunner 1d ago
Yep, I’m like 350 and there’s just no point in continuing that grind. I’ll see if things get better with next weeks update.

u/el_biguso 2d ago
Tell you what? My friends being there is the only thing that keeps me engaged.
Otherwise I would be gone fast.

u/Bloody_Sunday Cursed thralls need love too 2d ago
After 4.5 years of playing I took my final D2 break about 8-9 months ago. Glad I got out of this toxic & abusive gaming relationship, and feel zero need to come back to it. And from what I have been reading lately, it appears I did the right thing.

I logged off D2 for the last time a month ago and you're right, you quit at the right moment.

Destiny was one of my favorite games but I don’t have endless days and hour upon hours to eater trying to get geared up that’s why I stopped playing long ago.

I'm just playing PvP.
PvE has become boring and stale, especially with the featured list and older content not dropping at power.

Lol weve done that every evening pretty much the last few weeks waiting for this update next week. Thankfully there are some other good games to play as well as football season starting so we can just hang out and chit chat without having to be frustrated playing D2.

u/RedHotBananaGuard 2d ago
I hear that. Sitting at 340 and just can’t find a reason to play with the current system. I miss reward tracks from vendors and variety of play.

u/fathom7411 2d ago
There have been a few times this week that I have logged in and just sat in orbit looking at my phone because loading into a solo grind isnt really fun. Im 445 and wanted to knock out those extra couple levels before Tuesday "just because" but it really doesnt seem fun.
Played crucible though with a buddy last night starting at 730 and didnt get a prime to drop until 11. All other e gram drops where either my level or under. That truly sucks. I get that "come tuesday itll be better", but why did we have to wait almost two months for the adjustment? Was this the plan all along?
I cant say I'm never playing again but the current state is super frustrating and Tuesday's update doesnt seem fun enough to have me rush to boot the game up at reset like i have in the past.
1
u/General_PATT0N 1d ago
I'm usually solo, casual, at 230. I don't see myself ever playing enough to reach like 350. Before EoF, I played a few hours on weekends, and still really enjoyed it. Now it seems like a chore, which removes a lot of the incentive.
1
u/Baanditsz 1d ago
While that isn’t a bad thing in itself it says something about the state of the game that sitting in orbit chatting is preferable to playing content together.
I do the same thing.

I’ve taken a break after week 4 and it’s been great. I grinded to 432ish, then I played that week of solstice a bit for the pinnacle gear. It’s been great catching up on my game catalogue. It’s a shame I’m in technical training and can’t afford bf6 or borderlands 4 when they release but hopefully around Christmas time I can pick em up.

u/Terrible-Two7381 1d ago
Welcome to the true end game of Destiny 🤣 mindlessly wondering if anything is really worth doing as you’ve likely done everything in the game hundreds or thousands of times.

u/OPSweeperMan 1d ago
Yeah I hit 400 to get a tier 4 sword. I’ll prolly start going for power again on tuesday but not gonna bother til the improvements go live

Absolutely agree with your sentiment, friend. I run a clan which used to be super busy up until a few weeks ago. We used to raid 3-4 times a week and would have a blast doing other activities with clan mates. It all came to an abrupt halt with the new season. The relentless yet pointless grind got the better of most of us. Some left the game entirely and some are taking a break, like you. It’s heartbreaking. Almost everyone deviated towards other games and found some the clan mates can still play together. What used to be a D2 clan has turned into a multi game server. The few that are still playing D2 are having a hard time finding players to complete missions with. Most, me included, can’t be bothered to even log into the game. I’m honestly surprised at how quickly long time players turned away from this game because of how big a disappointment it has been. I’m not sure if I’m ever going back to it, even if, by some miracle, it manages to come back from whatever this is.
1
u/Narukami_7 1d ago
All of this shit should go. They should all rollback to the Heresy sandbox and start from scratch on any big changes. No one wants to play this shit; there's no reason to. The game hates you and wants you to grind the same stuff over and over again so that you can CONTINUE to grind the same stuff but now with better loot... that you earned! (after 280 hours of caldera)

u/Small_Article_3421 15h ago
Haven’t played since EoF launched, which admittedly hasn’t been very long, but it’s been the longest I haven’t been interested in the game since warmind. I’m sure in a year’s time I could enjoy the game for a little bit, but at the moment nothing is speaking to me.

I logged in last night and I was going to play some Master Frireteam Ops. Then I looked at the modifiers and I thought, 'why bother? ' There was no grenadier or brawler so I knew it was going to be a slogfest.
This made me roll my eyes. If Master Fireteam Ops is a "slogest," I'd hate to know what you think of older Grandmasters.
They're not a slog. They're so easy. What, do you want enemies to fall over from a single bullet? This sub is so weird.
6
u/Gill-CIG 2d ago
"It tasted worse when I ate it so shup up and eat your slop."
How about we all just ask for better food instead? A thousand flies eating horse poop can't be wrong, right?

u/HannahEaden 2d ago
Grandmasters were fun! And if you're an experienced Destiny player, how are not rolling through Master Fireteam Ops? Are too many people here bad?
1
u/MGrinchy 1d ago
7k hours here and stopped playing. The power grind is ridiculously harsh and the way to get there is lonely and boring repeating solo ops thousands of time. Unless there’s a massive overhaul to make things fun, exciting and realistic power climb I’m out
1
u/Diononon 1d ago
Man this is exactly how I feel. The new reset just killed the fun for me. Ive played since d1 released. Im sad and looking for a new game

u/Gill-CIG 2d ago
It boils my piss something terrible that I've been having way more fun with a mobile gatcha version of Destiny than I have D2.
I never thought such a thing would ever be possible.

u/fletcho64 2d ago
omg... this is huge news...
I mean seriously, this is completely normal? idk why everyone feels the need to announce when they take a break or quit destiny. if you feel like playing, then play. if you don't, don't play.
destiny players need to step away and realise it's just a game, they don't HAVE to play it.
edit: not to mention you're 360 power, which means you've already played a lot this season. also notice how you're getting bored like 2 days before a new content drop? it's almost like the game is designed to give you new things to do at the right time.
10
u/jusmar 2d ago
I mean seriously, this is completely normal?
It's a bit meaningful as this is showing that the portal system is hostile it's effectively broken the short & long omnivores destiny was designed to entrap.
We'd have the campaigners come and go around every season and expansion release but there'd always be the omnivores keeping a baseline player level just playing anything so long as it's destiny flavored, and that's just not happening anymore.
6
u/UltraLegoGamer 2d ago
I've done this numerous times prior to EoF lmao. Sometimes people just chill out in orbit. Big fuckin whoop.
1
u/Oofric_Stormcloak 2d ago
People have been saying stuff like this for years. It's not because the portal came out that people get burnt out.
6
u/Kind-Star-9516 2d ago
idk why everyone feels the need to announce when they take a break or quit destiny. if you feel like playing, then play. if you don't, don't play.
Idk why everyone feels the need to announce to people that they dont need to announce when they take a break.

Because D2 fans want it to get better. They want Bungie to read and see their decisions have lead to them quitting to hopefully make better. Your comments caring about them posting are more annoying than theirs talking about quitting though.

Brother the big picture is that they sunsetting the whole game....why to do vesper host now?the loot is shit cuz of new gear that modify the score.Cut that down and ill play again the game. They had the balls to sunset whole game, dungeons that we paid extra money and also TFS as a whole which is mind dumbling.I have7k h in this game and i cant play anymore infusion core simulation plus underleveled at -40 all the time.I cant.Green vision destroyed the game more Than Joe and his abilitties nerfs + always underleveled...Currently game is really trash and not fun to play anymore.
-5
u/Oofric_Stormcloak 2d ago
You can play older activities just fine. If you don't want to power grind then don't. You don't need to worry about score modifiers when doing raids or dungeons.
8
u/FFaFFaNN 2d ago
Yes but for what?Good gear is tiered to new loot...
-5
u/Oofric_Stormcloak 2d ago
Fun? Nevermind the fact that new gear is only a big deal in the Portal but a vast majority of my playtime has been playing just for fun because I already had everything I wanted. Are you seriously going to limit yourself only to solo ops and strikes because that's where the power grind lies instead of activities you actually enjoy?
5
u/A_RussianSpy 2d ago

I'm right there with you. Today is a Saturday and I didn't even turn on the game, which is pretty unheard of for me. Everyone is free to have their own opinion, I just hate the grind, find the raid to be unrewarding, and can't really find any reasons to run anything else. I'm sure I'll check in when ash and iron comes out, but it's kinda depressing.
