Discussion Sturm + Lucky Pants - How good is it? (pretty good)

How good is Sturm + Lucky Pants?

In the most recent TWID, Bungie stated that Sturm's overcharged shots will now work with Lucky Pants but with reduced damage; 110% at 10x Stacks of Illegally Modded Holster.

Let's dive in to see how well it will do in a 6 second DPS rotation (assuming each shot are overcharged rounds):

6-Second DPS Overview

Shot Number Buff Stack Damage Increase Damage
1 0x 0% 396
2 1x 11% 439
3 2x 22% 483
4 3x 33% 526
5 4x 44% 570
6 5x 55% 614
7 6x 66% 657
8 7x 77% 701
9 8x 88% 744
10 9x 99% 788
11 10x 110% 831
12 10x 110% 831

Total Damage: 7,580
DPS: ~1,263

Lucky Pants has a 6-second timer for Illegally Modded Holster, in that time Sturm, which fires at 120rpm, can fire 12 rounds.

Each shot for Sturm with the overcharged shot does 377 damage on bosses, with the 5% increase from featured weapons increases it to 396, each shot will deal 11% more damage, with a max damage of 110%

Conclusion:

As you can see Sturm paired with Lucky Pants will be a decent and viable option. While not as good as burst fire handcannons like Warden's Law and Agape (would be ~14% better), with new Together Forever weapons coming with Ash and Iron this should be pretty fun to use.

If its not as good as legendary HCs then whats the point really?

1200 dps is a step above legendary hand canons. But honestly, barely. I’m actually shocked anybody thinks that’s a good number. That’s basically just shooting a triple surge weapon at an enemy… there’s no way this setup is that weak in practice.

If it's not as good as Agape then there's zero reason to use it especially since it's in the Mint Retrograde slot. Agape already isn't as much damage as Aureus Neutralizer, Aureus is just limited by being kinda iffy for neutral and not having a good energy weapon to run with it aside from maybe Unvoiced - but goddamn that sounds miserable to run in neutral. I guess you could also use Lord of Wolves but that seems... weird and awkward to do as a rotation, and LoW is getting boss damage nerfed again. But I digress, this is about Sturm, and Sturm is a lot worse than that.

Agape neutrals well, generates radiant whenever you want thanks to the artifact, works with a lot of other different guns so you have options for rotations, and is extremely easy to farm thanks to Keplar focusing, Sieve and the loot cave. Just use Agape.

Don’t see this being used in any serious DPS scenarios considering you have to give up using a DPS swap rotation Heavy Exotic (Finality’s Auger, Whirling Ovation, Anarchy, Dragon’s Breath or Parasite) and can’t use Festival Flight or Mint Retrograde either.

Will using a spreadshot HC to proc multiple Lucky Pants stacks and then switching to Sturm help?

Yes it definitely would

Bro. This is a hunter exotic, not a titan one.

Hunter exotics don’t get cool shit like this. Even if the spread shot hand cannon did actually add extra stacks (max stacks per shot is 2 which due to slow fire speed is pointless), it’s a hunter exotic, so this would be a nerfed interaction in a week tops.

Ive been playing around with sealed ahamkara, the synergy with the playstyle is perfect and makes it more forgiving, just infinite holster reloading with constant 30%~ damage buff

Had a build put together with them (forgot what it even focused on) and am 100% down to try this out as well.
