Discussion I miss playing but I have ZERO interest in playing this version of Destiny 2

3.3k Upvotes

I played for about 2 weeks into EOF trying to grind via the portal system and I just couldn't do it. I no longer felt like I was playing the Destiny 2 I know and love. I'm not against change as the Destiny 2 I have nearly 4000 hours in has changed a lot over the years but the portal feels like the Destiny 2 I put all those hours into, was taken out back to be put down in favor of a terribly unfinished, underbaked, frankensteined version of a "new" update. I've been playing since Destiny 1 on the Xbox 360 through all the ups and downs but this was the first time I felt bungie genuinely didn't care about my time one bit. Swapping out the weekly pinnacle missions, raids rotators, dungeons rotators, GMs, vender reward tracks, and the pathfinder that allowed me to play either Strikes, Crucible, or even Gambit and still get some rewards, for the portal genuinely makes my head hurt to think about. I feel they had this amazing game with an alive world that always kept me coming back for more to keep building onto, but instead they literally buried the game I've been playing these last 8 years, in favor of a game that will drip feed us content through a vastly inferior system. To be clear its not the modifiers I have a problem with or even the idea of a portal in general but way they rolled this out. We went from the systems previously mentioned to running what is essentially a lost sector and Star crossed for 2 months.

I was looking at ash and Iron as a potential jumping back in point but no SIVA, no Splicers, and we get Cabal and Vex instead? What are we doing here? Like Genuinely? This is not acceptable. Imagine they remastered the moon for Shadow Keep but there was no Hellmouth or Hive temples. What would be the point and what is the point of the Plague Lands coming back if you're going to do it this dirty? It feels like a cheap way to manipulate people into hopping on the game in an attempt to get them to buy skins in what will inevitably be a fully SIVAd out Eververse store after you throw 5 pop ups on login advertising all the cool new Eververse gear that will be available to buy while not putting any of the SIVA flair into the actual fan favorite destination. We know they can make old destinations feel new while still feeing faithful to the original because the just did it to the Dreadnaught last Episode. Too bad they deleted that I guess. The other thing I'm supposed to be excited about is **checks notes** Dungeon encounters? We cant even have FULL dungeons that have been out for years in this new system? What is the point of the system if it cant feature the best content Destiny has to offer In FULL? Make it make sense.

I am 100% sincere when I say I want the game to succeed but I genuinely do not know if they have the man power to fix Destiny 2 at this moment in time due to the layoffs, being spread thin from working on other projects, and all the dev time that's most likely going into finishing/Polishing Renegades. They have a seemingly impossible task Infront of them. I know Bungie always manages to find their way out of the messes they make but dang, they sure have to show the world they still have that magic in them to not only make something special but also repair the damage that has already been done.

EDIT: To anyone in a similar position as I am, I definitely recommend checking out Destiny 1 if you have a console that can play it. Super fun if you can get over the 30fps and no fov slider and still has a healthy population on Xbox one. Also most importantly the progression is fun :)

Discussion Extending this season's "new-item" lifespan into Renegades isn't enough.

In a vacuum it sounds fine, "cool, my t5 armor and weapons will be usable in all Renegades activities."

This is not enough.

Conceding to an extra 6 months should not be the stopping point. "Featured" and "New Gear" as well as the bonus provided need to go.

Removing new gear also conveniently fixes the issue of activities outside the portal being mostly useless - give them powerful drops as well and we've got progress!

Pushing dungeon keys in the last TWID, and yet we can't use that dungeon gear in avant garde or touche enabled activities? Remove 'new gear' and players may actually be encouraged to buy the dungeon keys since they could actually use the loot!

Why are we stumbling over our feet here?

Media Bungie, as a Warlock main, here’s an example of how I want summons to work

Example

Notice how they actually look like little creatures, and seem to be able to act in different ways, rather than just being blobs of elemental energy.

Idk, it’d be cool if Destiny had something like this

Question I swear to god this game explains nothing

hi I tried to play Destiny 2 few times but I always get stuck somewhere. I just learned about guardian rank and that I should follow it. Now I had to do mission with boons and I chose fireteam, nobody joined so I went solo. I got to end of spire and need to eliminate the spire wardens. Man I have killed that Hiruk warden like 15 times now but he just respawns and other 2 are protected. I run whole area multiple times there is nothing else to destroy here just this warden Hiruk that respawns.

What tha hell am I supposed to do?

Misc The irony of living in a world where a Destiny mobile game feels more like Destiny and actual Destiny 2 feels like a shitty mobile game

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I long for the golden days of destiny past. A destiny that no longer exists and never will again. It's sad because I WANT to enjoy the game but simply can't with the awful changes they've made, especially with EoF. The Destiny I loved is dead

Discussion It’s sad to see the state of all characters IP defining supers

I was talking with an old buddy of mine, who was a huge D1 fan but dropped off early into D2. We got to chatting about the state of things and he was shocked to hear that Bubble, GG, and Nova have been kinda trash for so long now. Especially the St.14 and celestial nerfs.

I know they’ve said they are “looking into ward of Dawn” and some of these other classes but damn it’s kind of sad when you think about it.

What would all of you do for these supers?

Bungie Suggestion It’s very clear now that Bungie will not remove the featured gear system, but can you compromise a bit at least? Make it like Iron Banner where 5/8 gear pieces is all that’s needed.

After all the feedback Bungie are continuing to double down on the featured gear system. So it’s clear this is something they want for this game for the foreseeable future.

If that’s the case then can we at least get a system that’s like Iron Banner where you only need 5/8 gear pieces to get max rewards.

So we would only need to wear 5/8 pieces of featured gear to get max reward score and to meet the requirements for avante guard.

This way we would still need to use new gear but we at least have some wiggle room.

Discussion I’m finding champions more annoying and less fun mechanic all the time… mostly bc the kits to deal with them feel limiting

I hate having to switch my finely tuned loadout for champions. I like that a minor tweak might work but there’s too few options to do this without totally wrecking a build. It’s rather annoying.

Question What are you hoping we get in the Renegades reveal tomorrow?

I know there’s going to be a lot of sarcastic comments with the way the game is right now, but genuinely curious what the community wants to see.

Discussion I miss Dares

Dares of Eternity is my favorite non-pvp gamemode. I enjoy the randomized challenges, and fighting for high scores. But ever since the reset, there is not a huge reason to play the gamemode. My dream would be to have Dares become a portal activity, and have new gear drop alongside "vintage" gear, giving both an opportunity to collect the 30th gear, while keeping the event relevant.

Megathread Focused Feedback: Featured Gear

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Featured Gear' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Archie wishes you a happy reset and good luck!

Never forget what was lost. While the API protests have concluded, Reddit remains hostile to its users.

Discussion You should be able to pay some kind of resource(s) to upgrade your exotic armor tier

I still am not a fan of it dropping at tier 2, but even if they want to do that, you should be able to pay to upgrade the tiers. Maybe 3 Ascendant Shards to go from Tier 2 to 3, 1 Exotic Cipher to go from 3 to 4, and 2 or 3 Exotic Ciphers to go from Tier 4 to 5, that way it’s quite an investment and you have to decide deliberately per piece of armor,

but it’s sooOoOoO stupid that exotic armor is stuck at tier 2. Like wth

Question I thought the portal would be completely different in concept

Maybe it’s just me, but what I envisioned when they announced the portal is completely different to what we’ve received, and it’s a bit upsetting.

I understand the “need” for it - the director is incredibly confusing for newer players, and it gets cluttered quick. If you remember how the last city looked just before EoF, you’d know what I mean. I thought it was going to go in the direction of giving us a more “streamlined” way to access all content. Imagine something like the fireteam finder, a series of drop down menus that let you select what activity you want, rather than having to find it on a planet. For example, you select fireteam ops -> strikes -> inverted spire. At least that way they can have a space to keep old seasonal content around without too much clutter on the destinations tab. Keep the most recent destinations on there, remove the oldest ones and place them on a separate drop down menu elsewhere.

Instead we have … this thing. It’s so frustrating that even when the concepts seem good, the final vision just comes out fucked up

Discussion Bungie I need prismatic weapon combos

Give me that tear incandescent roll. Or the voltshot, threading roll.

I think prismatic weapons should be this mythic rarity from rising. Should be one perk from your primary slot and one from your secondary slot.

SGA Don't forget to claim armor from the Season Pass on other characters!

As we all know, the Rewards Pass is getting reset with Ash & Iron tomorrow. This is a friendly PSA to claim the armor from the pass on 2nd & 3rd characters now before the servers go down for maintenance tomorrow morning

Although Bungie is giving us a way to get past season pass rewards in-game, armor from the pass currently pulls at level with your highest power character

So despite me having not touched my Titan or Hunter at all since EoF launched, all the armor still pulled at 400, since my Warlock is 400

It may not be the best gear (mine only pulled at tier 2 🙃) but it's an easy way to quickly level other characters, and make it easier to get higher tier gear for them

Bungie Suggestion Bungie it is your collective obligation to ensure Ash an d Iron is enganging...remove the tectonic harvest cooldown in PVE

Thats it. It just needs to not exist in PvE. The Howl of the Storm Aspect could bring Stasis Titan to Consecration Primsatic Titan levels of meta if this one change was just added in the patch notes. Please Bungie..just add that note to the patch tomorrow and my life is yours. The changes already mentioned in addition to this would create the Stasis Nuke meta weve been waiting for, for like 3 years in PvE. Balancing be damned just give Stasis Titan this moment while you have the opportunity.

I think this is seriously the time for it and it would be amazing for Ash and Iron. Warlocks and Titans get 2 potentially massive buffs with this. Titans early on for the Stasis Subclass and Warlocks later for their buddy builds. Itd be perfect timing to help carry us into Renegades. One Simple Change Bungie. All I ask. Please and Thank you.

Question Kepler on Director

So it is looking like it’s a strong possibility we’re going back to Mars for Renegades in December. Does that mean Kepler will finally be added to the director? Or how will we access the activities or run the missions as renegades will take over its spot in the portal presumably

Misc Predictions for Renegades

Renegades will be shown tomorrow, so here are things that I wouldn't be surprised if they are included: - Destination: Mars (best for a low-budget Tatooine) - Antagonist factions: Red Legion Remnants / Shadow Legion / Lucent Hive / Hive - New units: Cabal / Hive - New exotics: Sidearm similar to Han Solo's Blaster, Lightsaber, Crossbow similar to Chewbacca's; perhaps one of those is craftable - Dungeon location: Mars, perhaps deep inside the remnants of Rasputin's site - Reprised weapons: Seventh Seraph arsenal - Characters involved: Zavala, Caiatl, Ana Bray; perhaps Elsie Bray and/or Clovis AI - Exploration "ability": Low-budget "force", justified perhaps with the use of Deepsight and/or new paracausal word - New aspects: Solar Hunter, Solar Titan, Void Warlock (those are the ones that haven't received a new aspect since Subclass 3.0)

DO NOT SET ANY EXPECTATIONS, ALL MENTIONED IS JUST BASED ON WHAT WE'VE SEEN EARLY WITH THE ANNOUNCE OF THE EDGE OF FATE.

Media Solo Flawless Sundered Doctrine with Glaive/Melee Builds in 41 mins!

Thought I'd challenge myself to solo flawless every dungeon using glaive/melee builds, because apparently I enjoy pain. Sundered Doctrine is already a marathon solo and even more so when you insist on fighting every encounter with this kind of loadouts.

But this time around I managed to finish a solo flawless run in 41 minutes using some of my favorite glaives and melee builds! It was a test of patience, stubbornness, and questionable life choices... But I'm super happy with the end result and excited to share with you all!

If you’re into the whole “unkillable wall of muscle” tank fantasy but were emotionally devastated by the Stronghold changes, the Wormgod + Vexcalibur Strand build I used in encounters 1 and 2 might speak to you. It’s tanky and hits hard, every glaive melee deals a lot of dmg to yellow bars and you have glaive shield (97,5 dmg reduction) + Overshields + Healing (Banner of War).

Hope you like this touch of madness comming from a very peculiar guardian. And if you are like me, or the other 10 guardians that like glaive builds around here, let me know if you have any questions about the loadouts / strats I've used.

Discussion The comp weapon drop rates are pathetic

Upvotes

Two hours of playing tonight and zero drops of the comp weapon

I have a 8-1 record today and have been playing pretty well, but absolutely nothing to show for my effort

I’m honestly so frustrated right now. I don’t know why they choose to make this game so unrewarding to play. It feels like a chore and I’m not even getting anything for it

At least with the old comp rewards you knew you’d get a drop after 3 games. Now I’ve played 9 tonight and not a single one

Really good job Bungie, amazing changes this season. Please make your game FUN again. I want to never play it again right now

Question Does anyone know how much of the population is split between free2play guardians and people who buy expansions/seasons?

This has been bothering me since forever, because in all of the discussions and how split the community can be I'm wondering what is the actual distribution of people. This is even more interesting considering how often Bungie likes to highlight "free" content (i.e. Ash and Iron).

It would be great to also see when someone is sharing their opinions if they are a f2p player or someone who spends on dlc. Quite curious how many f2p players buy mtx too.

It looks like there is no public info available, and sadly one can't launch a poll here on D2 subreddit.

Question Do Ada-1's cosmetic bounties reset with Ash & Iron on Tuesday?

Title. Does anyone know/has Bungie mentioned if Ada-1's armor ornament bounties reset this Tuesday with the Ash & Iron update?

Thanks!
