Dear SA indians, how do you treat the Indians ?!

Do you also discrminate us ?! What are the chances of getting a SA girlfriend or boyfriend for indians from India in Durban?

I heard that there are lot of Indians in Durban. I am in Johannesburg and I am still adapting to SA culture. Being a proper Tamilian, I feel Durban can be another home for me more than Johannesburg due to the presence of 3rd generation Tamil people.

Just struck me today it may not be totally normal? Especially in a rental? We have 2 facing outdoors to the yard/gates, one in the lounge entrance and one nanny cam in my kids room. Am I paranoid?

Racism in the suburbs

I recently moved to one of the 'nicer' suburbs in the north. It's become pretty clear in the past few months that there is an undertone of racism from a lot of people.

A fair amount of micro aggressions towards non white individuals and implications that said people aren't really wanted in the area.

It's definitely not all people but it's enough that it's become noticeable. From face to face interactions to the neighbourhood WhatsApp group there's a clear pattern.

Looking for Affordable, Decent Place to Rent Near Durban Harbour

Hi everyone,

I'm currently doing an internship in Durban and earning around R7,500 per month. My workplace is near the Durban Harbour, so I'm ideally looking for a place that's within reasonable distance from there, preferably with easy access to public transport if it's not walking distance.

I’ve checked out a few flats in the CBD, but honestly, many of them are in very poor condition, have absurd rules, and are run by unprofessional people. It’s been exhausting and frustrating trying to find something.

I don’t need anything fancy just a clean, secure room or flatlet that’s within budget. I'm open to house shares (separate rooms of course) or renting from a private landlord, as long as it’s a respectful and drama-free environment.

If anyone has leads, suggestions for suburbs to consider, or knows of reputable landlords, I’d really appreciate the help. 🙏

Thanks in advance!

Can you help me find a free(or at least cheap) place for extracurricular activities

The school I go to does not offer activities like choir or dance or anything like that. Is there a place here in Durban that can offer those things?

However, digging a little deeper, I see that there are many other aquariums that have a bigger water capacity. So, perhaps a different metric was used in this list.

This is one of those hot wheels cars with thermal colour changing paint. Normally you have to put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to get it to turn purple.

Bulk Waste Removal

Looking for some advice, I have a couch and fridge being replaced in the next week and have scoured the web and have come up short for bulk waste removal in the Durban north area. Most service providers are exclusive to JHB and CPT. Anyone know of any service providers. I have tried to get a hold of DSW but none to no avail.

How to attract clients as a freelancer in South Africa?

I've recently started my own informal graphic design and marketing service business. I've tried my best to post my services and offers everywhere I could but I only ever got 1 client.

I am self-taught and I have 1 year of university for a different degree.

My prices as as low as I can possibly go without doing anything for free.

What's a better approach to get clients? Or is the market I am in simply to saturated?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

This legend of a place. I was once brave enough to have that extra hot burger (can't remember what it was called).

This place, or rather, outside it, was such a vibe. Things were so nice back then.

KwaMashu or Ballito

Please help me make a decision on which situation would be better for me. Shoot any thoughts or suggestions on this - any feedback/criticism is welcome. Be kind, and let me know if this is realistic or if I have a day pass at Delulu-land.

29yr Black woman Single - no kids/dependants Work full-time in healthcare.

I work in uMhlanga and currently live in Phoenix. My commute is about 15km each way and is choice in every way; if not for the fact that I want to move out and get my own place.

  1. I want a small space (preferably bachelor) because Black Tax is real and I don’t ever want to have a conversation that involves someone asking to stay with me ‘for just a day or two’ - you know what I mean.
  2. Commute to work should not be more than 40km each way - the shorter the better.
  3. Safety and privacy is the most critical factor I need - controlled environment with security.
  4. I absolutely must have fibre - I can’t depend on a router contract when there are always issues with almost all service providers at some point. Vuma has been a dream in all aspects.
  5. I want to delay having to buy furniture/appliances right now. My stay should be no more than 6 months while I figure future plans and the like. So, a (partly) furnished place is preferable - stove, microwave, fridge, bedding.
  6. While I’m definitely a loner (and introverted) I wouldn’t mind a room/house mate if we can communicate well and understand each other. PS - I don’t want to have a child living with me.
  7. Also need a safe parking space for my car.
  8. At this time, I’m looking for something that would be about 3-4k depending on the amenities and all my other points above. **no more than 5k a month.

Option 1 KwaMashu R5500 - 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment is available at The Bridge - right at the Bridge City mall across the Dr Pixley Kaseme Hospital. My commute to and from work will be exactly the same - still about 15km. The complex is relatively new and i haven’t heard of any major issues. My biggest concern with this one, is safety (my shifts sometimes finish after 9pm and I drive alone at that time), and the reliability of water and electricity. And then I would need to buy all new appliances and furniture - this might be an issue because I’m sure I will not stay there for more than six months.

Option 2 - Ballito There’s a place called iDladla - new complex with all the features I need. Bachelor (one room) with appliances I can rent. Looking at about 4k monthly on that.

I’ve looked at apartments in uMhlanga, La Lucia, and Mount Edgecombe, and these are crazy expensive but sort of exactly what I need. Is there a way to find housemates online? Someone similar to me who would be willing to share a place, please dm me.

I need help with this. My options are not just these two, but they are currently available and I need to make a decision. Kindly hit me with your thoughts on this and I welcome all suggestions.

Thank you

Casino(s) in Durban central in the 90s

I have vague memories of seeing a casino somewhere in town. Might have been called 777, or, there was a sign with 777.

This was in the early 90s. And I want to say it was West street, but I honestly can't remember. There were a few stairs leading to the entrance. The vicinity seemed very adult like, at least from a kid's point of view.

Man, I used to love town back then.
