Please help me make a decision on which situation would be better for me. Shoot any thoughts or suggestions on this - any feedback/criticism is welcome. Be kind, and let me know if this is realistic or if I have a day pass at Delulu-land.
29yr
Black woman
Single - no kids/dependants
Work full-time in healthcare.
I work in uMhlanga and currently live in Phoenix. My commute is about 15km each way and is choice in every way; if not for the fact that I want to move out and get my own place.
- I want a small space (preferably bachelor) because Black Tax is real and I don’t ever want to have a conversation that involves someone asking to stay with me ‘for just a day or two’ - you know what I mean.
- Commute to work should not be more than 40km each way - the shorter the better.
- Safety and privacy is the most critical factor I need - controlled environment with security.
- I absolutely must have fibre - I can’t depend on a router contract when there are always issues with almost all service providers at some point. Vuma has been a dream in all aspects.
- I want to delay having to buy furniture/appliances right now. My stay should be no more than 6 months while I figure future plans and the like. So, a (partly) furnished place is preferable - stove, microwave, fridge, bedding.
- While I’m definitely a loner (and introverted) I wouldn’t mind a room/house mate if we can communicate well and understand each other. PS - I don’t want to have a child living with me.
- Also need a safe parking space for my car.
- At this time, I’m looking for something that would be about 3-4k depending on the amenities and all my other points above. **no more than 5k a month.
Option 1 KwaMashu
R5500 - 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment is available at The Bridge - right at the Bridge City mall across the Dr Pixley Kaseme Hospital.
My commute to and from work will be exactly the same - still about 15km.
The complex is relatively new and i haven’t heard of any major issues.
My biggest concern with this one, is safety (my shifts sometimes finish after 9pm and I drive alone at that time), and the reliability of water and electricity.
And then I would need to buy all new appliances and furniture - this might be an issue because I’m sure I will not stay there for more than six months.
Option 2 - Ballito
There’s a place called iDladla - new complex with all the features I need. Bachelor (one room) with appliances I can rent. Looking at about 4k monthly on that.
I’ve looked at apartments in uMhlanga, La Lucia, and Mount Edgecombe, and these are crazy expensive but sort of exactly what I need. Is there a way to find housemates online? Someone similar to me who would be willing to share a place, please dm me.
I need help with this. My options are not just these two, but they are currently available and I need to make a decision.
Kindly hit me with your thoughts on this and I welcome all suggestions.
Thank you
