Question/Advice/Discussion Travel tool pouch

Do you think the Roxon Flex companion multi tool configured this way should be ok for TSA and should I take the pouch out of my backpack so they can see it separately and not have to search my bag for it?

Should be ok for TSA, but I wouldn’t show them. Travelled recently to Ireland and bought a 2nd Roxon Multiscissors and cut off the blade b4 I went. Had no issues, no one looked at it. Have preorder in for new Flex Shears where I can just pull the blade out.

I'll post my TSA tool kit. I usually leave mine open as I'm a field service guy and my travel kit covers my tool box going missing for a day or two.

I like it a lot. I probably would have got the mini if it had been out at the time. They are very good value and come with all the blades you typically need.

I’ve travelled almost every week for 15 years and have needed a screwdriver about 2 times. I’m 100% I’ll probably only need the comb lol.

You have needed screwdriver two times in 15 years and carry two incompatible screwdrivers with bits. Great setup though

Ok. So went through TSA pre check at Orlando 6ish in the morning. I put it in the little bin with my phone and some pocket items. Sailed straight through didn’t have to speak to anyone.

I love this Alpaka pouch, I have an identical one and it's absurd how much I can fit in it.

My sheffield got a really close inspection few weeks ago. Just saying don't take nothing you ain't willing to lose.

Finally someone else with a flex companion. In my experience though, nobody expects a tool to be modular and nobody's going to check if you have blades or not. They will see pocket tool, and they will immediately have an opinion.

I agree that’s my worry. I notice on the TSA list they specifically call out Swiss Army knives and say they are ok without blades but I think the agents just see that and take them without caring to look. That’s why I thought I’d try the Roxon. It also looks more like a tool than a knife?

Look at surplus tools sold by the TSA. There's a very large number of Leatherman Micras, which have teeny tiny blades, and other weird tools that people thought they could get through that they cannot. It really comes down to whatever the agent is feeling when they see it. I had a Micra make it through TSA, but they also sell entire lots of them with like 40 tools in a box.

Also just last weekend I had somebody zip tie my Flex Companion without judging it at all. They found out I had a knife, and a zip tied it.

Just throw it in a bag. You're not going to need it as much as you would rather not lose it.
