Theology & Liturgy Fast for the Nativity of the Theotokos

Hello my dear brethren, I wanted to say that for souls that are ascetically minded, in the Syriac Tradition within India, there is a unique fast from September 1 to 7 in preparation for the Nativity of the Theotokos. It’s not an obligatory fast (as far as I know for them) but highly valued amongst both the West and East Syriacs. How beautiful is Syriac Christianity!

Beautiful to see a tradition that values asceticism

I’m not in the Syriac tradition but I do like to study their saints and sometimes also privately include some of their prayers. To that end, I use the LRD appof the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. I can only attach one photo per comment so just giving the top portion.

I’ve never heard of this… u/Charbel33, can you shed light on it?

It's exclusively Indian. A beautiful tradition, for sure, but not a tradition of ours. 😊
