Noem is a terrible person, but just a reminder that this is SSP funding she's talking about, which has never been "FEMA funds" beyond the fact FEMA is administering the funding on behalf of CBP.

It's just as bogus to say this is taking money away from disaster relief now as it was for Trump/MAGA to claim it was taking money away from Helene relief before the election. At the same time, feel free to complain that the SSP funding is now being used to lock up migrants instead of its original mission.

Also kerr county has money to implement a warning system. They didn't do it because the money was from the Biden administration.

Kerr County did not opt for ARPA to fund flood warning systems despite commissioners discussing such projects nearly two dozen times since 2016. In fact, a survey sent to residents about ARPA spending showed that 42% of the 180 responses wanted to reject the $10 million bonus altogether, largely on political grounds.

“I’m here to ask this court today to send this money back to the Biden administration, which I consider to be the most criminal treasonous communist government ever to hold the White House,” one resident told commissioners in April 2022, fearing strings were attached to the money.

“We don't want to be bought by the federal government, thank you very much,” another resident told commissioners. “We'd like the federal government to stay out of Kerr County and their money.”

I suggest you read the full article. 'In 2021, Kerr County was awarded a $10.2 million windfall from the American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA, which Congress passed that same year to support local governments impacted by the pandemic. Cities and counties were given flexibility to use the money on a variety of expenses, including those related to storm-related infrastructure.'

The worst part is, since the 1990s, the conspiracy idiots (the people Alex Jones stole his shtick from) were saying it's going to be minorities imprisoning precious white Christians. I worked at a DoD agency for over 35 years and was always lectured by bean counters about color of money. Pots of money can only be used for specific purposes. Many a good troop supporting initiative was denied due to “ color of money” issues. Logic and common sense was non-existent. So you’re telling me that FEMA funds can be used to build a jail? This has to violate any number of financial regulations regarding the use of Government funds, but alas, the dog killer who governed a state that is near the bottom of every economic and non-economic category in the US, is part of a government with no guardrails and they do what they want without fear of any repercussions.
