New position!

I recently got accepted into a CERC program. It’s a 10 month program with a stipend that will help train me in emergency response coordination. It comes with the chance to be deployed to a disaster for up to 2 weeks and to get real hands on experience in the EM field.

I’m incredibly excited but also a bit nervous. Has anyone else ever been through a program like this or similar?

Any advice is appreciated!

My advice is to observe, participate, and learn as much as you can. Take in the good and the bad and use it to grow your own skill set as a practitioner and a leader. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

We get a lot of interns and fellows nowadays that are just warm bodies and there for the resume padding, so they don't actually do much to grow themselves while they're there. I love it when we get someone who truly wants to be there. Sounds like you'll fit that bill.

Thank you for the advice! I’m so excited for it.. I have always wanted to be involved in helping the public in some form or fashion, and living in California, I’ve seen my fair share of massive fires and intense earthquakes. There is a chance to learn how to prepare my community for these events and to make a real difference. Grateful to be able to learn.
