FEMA Corps is back. It’s literally the best way to get in the door and learn hands on about emergency management at the federal level. You may also be paired with non-profits during your term of service and you’ll be given an education stipend you can use to further your knowledge.
At your age you will only be allowed to be a team leader, since corps members are from 18-24 and if you sign up, you’ll likely just be past the eligibility for that. If you’re ok leading a team, addressing conflict, learning how to budget and be responsible for a group of young adults around your age, this is your best route. Team leaders are also the first picked to become Full Time Employees at FEMA if there’s an opening and hiring, which may be the case by the time you’d finish your term.
Source: Me, a previous FEMA Corps TL that got hired right out of the program as a FTE.
