Discussion The beginning of Eragon just copied the Wheel of Time's one
The Eye of the World was released in 1990 and Eragon was released in 2002. so no doubt. Praise Robert Jordan! Paolini just changed Trollocs into Urgals. Also, he changed Moiraine into Brom.

It's not copied, more like he probably drew inspiration from the wheel of time series.

There's a fine line between inspiration and copying, even when it isn't about being illegal when works are highly derivative I do think it is worth mentioning as a flaw. I don't think it's a dealbreaker for the series though, he wore his inspirations on his sleeve early on and as he grew as a writer did more of his own thing which is exactly what authors are supposed to do.

You can rip off anything, as long as it's different enough.
Many of Eragon's story beats are 1:1 with Star Wars.

Not only the Wheel of Time, but the whole heroes journey trope. Unless you are a teenager, I don't think anyone reading this would be really surprised by this.

Never read Wheel of Time, but Eragon was almost exactly the same plot as Star Wars: A New Hope. At least book 1 was. Doesn’t make me like it any less.

Yep, all 4 books have many of the same beats as Star Wars. I just got to the final confrontation with Galbatorix and the battle at Uru'baen, and it's almost 1:1 with Return of the Jedi.
Many of the world building elements are inspired by Star Wars mythology. But it's still a medieval fantasy, so much of it is adjusted to blend in.

The foundation is similar to Star Wars but it changes enough in the later books so it’s not exactly 1:1. It’s like Star Wars if Obi-Wan had a secret relationship with Padme and was Luke’s father and if Leia fell to the dark side. Also if Obi-Wan killed Darth Vader before A New Hope.

Many of the similar elements and story beats are adjusted to be more medieval fantasy.
The Elundari is the Force, gently guiding and influencing behind the scenes.
Oromis and Glaedr is Yoda and his training arc to an extent.
The final battle and confrontation with the Emperor is very much based Return of the Jedi.

Nobody cares. You're like the people who come here and whine at the Star Wars similarities. If you don't like it then don't read it. Simple. Leave us alone.

Yeah and trollocs from WoT sure seem pretty similar to the orcs in the Hobbit, which Tolkien started writing in the 1930s, what's your point?

Eragon (which we must remember, was written by a teenaged boy with a deep love of the fantasy genre) took a lot of queues from previously existing fantasy stories. It becomes much more its own thing as the series progresses.
