Entry into town
How many people come into town? It seems like after the second season, people who have no security clearances come into town and have no issues. And then later in season 3, Duncan comes in and he's a noted epidemiologist and somehow get clearance to get into GD. What the hell is going on with the "top secret" clearances in this town??

Also the only time you see them treat GD as this megga secret is the pilot which as with any pilot is never quite canon.

Yeah I've noticed that. I mean the town is just protected from, im guessing spying and judging from the episode about Martha, misless, and whatever by their EM barrier.
But other than the big deal made when Carter first went to GD, people come and go there all the time, seemingly with zero clearance

Doubt they're going to waste story time every single time to go through the security procedures

Well of course not. But occasionally they make this big deal about Carter's pass, but other visitors, nope.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched the entirely of the show, but I always had issues with the security thing too. In the very first episode, Jack and Zoey end up in a town (not Eureka) and Allison takes them across the “broken” bridge through a barrier that IS the town of Eureka. But then at some later points, you have random ass people in town that should not be allowed there because there’s a barrier? Like uhhhh…what? And why is it that in that first episode, the weird scientisty experiments are outside of the zone of Eureka anyways. That’s why the place has a barrier. It doesn’t matter if it’s just the nearest town, it shouldn’t be outside of the barrier at all. Ugh! 😩

First episode they walk the main street, meet a smart kid, visit the Sheriff's office, Beverly's bnb, cafe diem and henry's garage, all before crossing the bridge.
When Carter gets his eye scanned, he's in front of a G.D gate.
I assume there's several other entrances, some by air, and some for basic transport. I don't believe most people working at G.D cross that bridge everyday.
Security differences could also be attributed to Carter replacing Cobb as Sheriff, Allison and then Stark replacing Warren King as Director of G.D, and us not seeing Colonel Briggs in any future episode.I think the barrier is more for digital signals, so it's harder for the world to hack G.D. They often mention finely tuning the shield, and they have their own satellites which are probably calibrated specifically to send information through the shield (so they can have their video chats with the DoD etc).
Eureka has it's own operating system, so off-site labs and advanced tech as part of their normal life (Vincent's freezer, the Sheriff's jailcell, ai in cars, robot dogs etc) could explain the extent of the field/shield/barrier.
It's a goofy show with a lot of flaws, but I love it.
Upvoting you because it allows me to rant about the show :)EDIT: I mentioned "Allison and then Stark replacing Warren King as Director of G.D" I was wrong, I assumed Allison was acting director for a while before Stark showed up, but I was wrong, he's there by S01E02.

The town isn’t top secret. It’s just a town, basically a company town, where the largest employer is Global Dynamics, and everyone else there is related to a GD employee or works to support the rest of the population.
As a scientist, I can understand the nearly reflexive dismissal of security. The scientists there want to learn and share information and knowledge. The government and the company do not want to share information in the same way. But with more scientists than businessmen in Eureka, the populace ends up being more lax about what tech is used in the open, because most of the people in Eureka are already in on the secret.
Eureka isn’t really on the way to anywhere, and doesn’t get a lot of traffic. Carter was passing through because they had car trouble, and would’ve been on their way none the wiser of GD’s existence, even if they thought Eureka was an odd place. Everyone else passing through is there either for GD business, or to see someone in Eureka.
