Holy crap the comments in this section, people have no critical thinking. Elon is wrong in so many ways. I'm more surprised at how people are arguing passionately saying he is right lol

There's a photo floating around that I wish I could find. It talks about how when Elon talks, he sounds very smart up until he talks about something you actually have knowledge about. Then he sounds like a total idiot.

Yeah lots of people do that. Especially in the era of social influencer academics. You just talk confidently and people believe you until you get to someone who actually knows what you are bullshitting. Elon just throws out hot takes like he has all the answers and everyone else is stupid. If you don't think about it at all they make sense but once you start breaking it down then they are just the same as dumb hot takes kids say in highschool. It's like Elon never grew out of the I know everything and everyone is wrong phase people go through in middle school/highschool

That's what they used to say about newspapers. Newspaper articles always seem informative and accurate until you read any about a subject you're an expert on, then they are all incredibly misinformed and inaccurate.

(This part is for the truck guys): The lesson is that they're all inaccurate, we just don't know any better.

Have you been on this sub??? r/Firefighting is almost as contrarian as the firehouse table.

It’s Reddit, it’s indicative of a very liberal leaning. Firefighting Reddit, similar to r/texas, is absolutely not indicative of the norm here. This post is just joining the hurr durr Elon bad because conservative. So yeah, people are arguing it because the intention is to dunk on the guy. Not a single person debated this critically in anyway, regardless of what hes saying.  They just used it as a dunk on Elon opp. People would argue Elon saying water is wet here.

Elon dunked on himself by sharing his thoughts. It’s best to be quiet and let people think you’re dumb rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

Fine, can you tell us how this is a viable solution dealing with this situation then? How will this be prepared prior to a wildfire outbreak? Who will implement the solution? Who will cover these structures with mud when the fire is cresting over the ridge line? Where will the mud come from? Where will it be stored?

Dude, don’t get pissy, this is an insanely dumb idea by an outrageously out of touch person that was pulled out of his ass to try to sound like he knows shit about fuck.

I figured as much. Sure talks like someone that (thinks) they know what they’re talking about though.

It’s not viable. Mud is useful for small fires you can smother, nothing larger. And his comment about evaporating water? Yeah, he’s a fucking moron, evaporated water helps rapidly cool rooms on fire.

Water works, and application is much, much faster than dirt/mud. Elon needs people around him to tell him he's wrong, or being dumb about something. But his ego can't do that, so he comes along with what he thinks are good ideas that are just dumb and then his White Knights have to defend him when he is called out on speaking about things he knows nothing about.

We've made several comments on how this isn't feasible. Can you elaborate on how this would be feasible?

You're right about the first part. I'm definitely not conservative but I admit reddit subs do lean way more to the left than other circles where the same topics are discussed.

That said, it's not political to say Elon is a dipshit.

Feel free to tell me I'm stupid but I can see this being useful in one edge case. If the actual fire front moves through, some mud/sand is no use. But mud/sand being non flammable could be put on wood windowsills or in the corners of porches/decks where flying embers may collect. Proper firewise construction would make this a non issue, but some people only see danger when it slaps them in the face.

Quick edit to clarify this would be a homeowner tactic before leaving not something a firefighter would EVER do.

u/fioreman Jan 09 '25

That's fair. It might reduce risk a little in some wildfire cases, especially on wooden decks.

No, Leon has proven many times that he's full of shit. It's not merely being contrarian. He wouldn't just say water is wet and get people pushing back against that. It's the he was say that in context of some other utterly retarded thing, and that would get the push back.

Can someone contact this guys village and ask them to come get their idiot?

u/Spooksnav foyrfiter/ay-ee-em-tee Jan 09 '25

Normally I'd agree, but you gotta admit that this was a pretty dumb take by him.

Nobody debated it? You are supposed to debate absurdity? It's impossible arguing with morons, which Musk is definitely one despite his hoard of gold.
