30+ years firefighter here. Sometimes your orders are to grab a hydrant and standby. This way you don't drop 1000 foot of hose for a busted steam line somebody called in as a building fire. Normally, you would flush the hydrant by opening it up into the street for a minute or so to blow out the rust, etc if you have the time. That car owner is lucky that didn't happen. Not only you got a busted window, but now it's totaled when it fills with rust water.
So you are saying that these guys took the windows out on a false alarm. And you wrote a paragraph about why that is a heads up move instead of some fuck shop shit lol. Wild
