Ask A Firefighter At what age did you start firefighting?

Asking because it’s a late career choice for some, while others do it right after college or even high school.

  1. I had gotten out of the military and missed the camaraderie. I worked another job for a year and a half before I got hired. I was a shipboard firefighter and a first responder on the ship. Some of the skills I learned translated over but most did not. Retired as a Captain at 53.
