Ask A Firefighter At what age did you start firefighting?

Asking because it’s a late career choice for some, while others do it right after college or even high school.

Started FF at 40 when I moved to a small town and whanted to get to know my town, make some friends and do something usefull after renovating my home for over three years 😅.

Similar. I was 45 and had just moved to a small town.

Caveat: I was a search and rescue mountaineer/EMT out west for a decade before moving, building a house, and subsequently joining the fire service, so I did related work starting at 32
