Let me fix that title for ya:
Aspiring firefighter wearing a British firefighter outfit from 20 years ago.

No it’s not. The BA set is wrong. No brigade badge in the helmet.
Ba set is old. Straps are wrong. It’s a museum piece.

I tried to at least copy it, plus its my best honestly, and realistically I went for more of the 90s to 2000s british firefighting, as best as I can without putting official things on it so I can use it for other things

I don’t know why you’re catching so much heat for this…
The BA set looks weird and quite old - but other than that it’s pretty good for someone not in service.
I saw comment on the mask looking ancient, although it looks like the personal issue ones we gave to instructors up until recently. Chrome trim and actual glass visors.
The helmet is the same as the generation before our current ones.
The BA cylinder should have a jacket on, made of an insularity material and often having service logos, reflective material and an anti entanglement strap and carry handle built in.
It’s pretty good 👍🏻

Thanks man, I get a lot of heat ok the firefighting sub reddit sometimes, its because I was in their eyes impersonating a firefighter from britain, I was going fir the general look minus a few pieces of gear, intentionally because some gear I'm missing is expensive as all get out

I notice you flair, the lack of badge on your helmet the general ill fitting nature of the gear, the shininess of the cylinder and the complete lack of cylinder cover.
Is the title fully accurate?

Not really, I wanted to put in like kit inpression but it wasnt there so I went for the next best thing

u/sprucay UK 7d ago
My concern is portraying yourself as a firefighter. When you say you "put it in" I'm not sure what you mean

I mean pike kit impression flair, its not the best I'm still working on getting it fully squared away and historically accurate

Is Dräger common in the UK/EU?
2
u/DisastrousFeature509 aspiring firefighter 7d ago

Europe is Dräger? No, not at all. Interspiro, Dräger, MSA and Scott are all in use in european countries. And the UK is also european...

Oh gotcha. I’m in Canada and Dräger is almost never used. Usually just used in the oil industry because it’s the cheapest brand. Most departments use MSA or Scott. Not sure if you guys use Scott across the pond.

In the US dräger can be used too, i believe its the same with Canada but idk

Drager is used in Canada, but it is rarer i believe, at least in my area. Most of our gear is from the states.

I mean, Dräger is a German industry. I personally have never seen other Companies.

My brigade are interspiro, and it was Scott when I was in the RN. We did have some drager kit for atmospheric monitoring though (submarines)

Using it up here in Canada for shipboard firefighting; find the harness more comfortable for my frame compared to Scott/MSA. The regulator can be a bit fussy when first using it but not too bad. Switched over from Chemox though, so pretty much anything that doesn't have rubber lungs (that you can't clean) and you don't have to worry about it catching fire on your chest is an upgrade.
Fingers crossed we'll actually switch over to that style helmet as well in my lifetime; the standard NA one is terrible for getting around tight quarters in warships.

Why don't you joyn and become a real firefighter?
1
u/DisastrousFeature509 aspiring firefighter 6d ago
Cant, a fire department I wanted to join refuses to let me on because of my autism

u/chenilletueuse1 6d ago
Ah man, that sucks. Sorry about that, bud. Thanks for the interest in this job!

I've always have, since I was born, I havent changed it since, I also pumped a fire engine at 6 years old too, so my dedication to the fire service is strong, and just because I was not accepted in oke department doesnt mean I wont try others I'll never give up

Took me a while but finally realised why that cylinder looked so odd (apart from no jacket) - it's got a flat end 😂 not sure that's a BA cylinder per se...should be a 300 bar (long thread)/9 litre cylinder and I wouldn't like to guess what this one here is 🤷🏻♂️ I've only ever seen Drager in the UK but I know some use interspiro. Other than that, the MSA helmets are still in use in a few Brigades afaik, not sure who still wears black tunic and legs, mask looks heavy with the metal fixings but probably legit

How many minutes is that SCBA tank rated for? That tank looks frickin huge
-2
u/DisastrousFeature509 aspiring firefighter 7d ago
20 minute bottle
3
u/Direct-Training9217 7d ago
What's the pressure? Idk if you're a small person or what but that thing is bigger than our bottles and ours are rated for 45 minutes

This person is reenacting. I hope they're not actually using that BA set because it's not a recent one.

u/DisastrousFeature509 aspiring firefighter 7d ago
Nah, we dont actually fight fires, we just show equipment for the event
1
u/Barabarabbit 6d ago
I think it is a 2216 tank
We had those old steel Draeger tanks years ago, they were heavy. We still have some in reserve now but they are no longer our main tanks.

That mask looks ancient. I wore one like that 12 odd years ago.
