General Discussion Border Patrol agents arrested firefighters fighting Washington wildfire after they asked the fire crew to line up to check their IDs.

What do we all think of this? Seems pretty nuts to me. They are actively getting in the way of wildlands guys as they do their job out there. I dont think this should be allowed or encouraged. Firefighting is a lot more important than .... risking 20 guys dressed exactly like firefighters crossing the Canadian border?

I know this sub pretty much has a zero-tolerance policy to political discussion, outside of the occasional union or benefits issue, but posts like this are an extreme example of the fact that firefighting is not divorced from politics.

I think the mods should take time to reevaluate how this sub handles politics, perhaps allowing more discussion with focused moderation and not relying on permabans for comments that don't violate ToS.

People are not being permabanned for singular violations of Rule 9. Those permabanned as a result of this thread were banned because they requested to be banned or promoted violence against officials or government agencies AFTER the pinned comment was put up. Not that comments like those are ever acceptable, but initial violators were given a 3-day to cool off before the warning was put up. The promotion of violence is also a sitewide rule violation, so there may have been removals and actions taken by Reddit admins. We have no control over those. I can also tell you that Reddit's "safety" filter casts an extremely wide net and does a poor job of interpreting context. For example, references to "deck guns" have triggered admin removals that we can't control.
