Career / Full Time Information needed regarding contract firefighting

I am currently working as a firefighter in Antarctica. I have my Fire 1, Fire 2, ARFF firefighter, state specific apparatus license, and state EMT-B certifications. In looking online, a lot of contracting companies such as V2X and KBR seem to require additional certifications that I haven’t heard much about- such as ARFF certified Driver Operator, State Certified Driver Operator, EVOC, and some also require a licensure related to munitions.

I’ve been trying with limited success to find institutions anywhere in the USA which would provide these particular courses without a department sponsoring. I know my volunteer department will cover me for the instructor and officer series of classes I still need, but beyond that I am probably on my own to go out and get them. Basically, I’m asking for any suggestions you guys have or tidbits you might know that can help pursue these.

Alabama Fire College will get you most of the certifications you will need.

Idk about that munitions one you mentioned.

Another note. The companies I've worked for and the job postings I've ever seen have only wanted IFSAC/ProBoard certifications. I believe, Alabama Fire College will get you certs with both numbers.

As far as state certs. The only one I've seen an exception for was EMT. I don't have NREMT and have been on contracts with my state cert.

I’m lucky enough to be in Alabama. Almost all of my certifications have both IFSAC and ProBoard seals. Makes them very portable.

Think the munitions one is a DOD thing. Meant to try and cater to vets. But thats just a theory, as i have not seen such a thing in my 25ish years on civilian side.

Driver Operator comes in a variety of apparatus-based classes. The specific title you're looking for is probably "Driver/Operator - ARFF" when searching for classes. EVOC/EVDT is usually part of a Driver Operator course at least here in PA, so that you probably wouldn't have to look for.

Most will probably let you join the class on your own, but be warned without a station to sponsor/back you, you will prob pay a bit as it's a national/international accredited course. Usually when I see the classes pop up it's about $500-600 per student here in PA at least. So as long as you tell them you can pay up front they would likely accept you.

That all said, whatever your home state you usually live in, would probably be best to contact whatever state fire academy/agency you have about finding out where a class might be.
