Piece fell off of refractory panel - can I fix myself?

Was cleaning our gas fireplace and this piece of the refractory panel popped off. Can I use a heat resistant mortar to glue it back in place, or is this a job for a professional? Thanks!

I usually just put high temp silicone and stick it on. If it doesn't work I put as much. As I can on and then spray it as lightly as can be with high temp black paint.

Oh god. Gorilla glue it back on. Or JB weld.

Don’t do this, use high temp silicone

i'm not sure thats the refractory panel that's meant to go with that unit...

Refer to manufacturer's manual. Most shouldn't be repaired, most should be replaced

High temp silicone is the best for this application. Yes you can fix yourself

This is just a simple ceramic fiber panel unfortunately they're very fragile. I agree with the others suggesting the use of high temp silicone to kind of just sandwich it back on that.

or you could completely paint it all black lol

I can’t be positive without the manual or seeing a better picture, my guess is that there is a piece of your fireplace is missing and that’s why that got knocked off of there. That just doesn’t look right to me!

silicone is generally rated at 500* degrees F. At that particular location, the temp will never ever come close to that max degrees

Great opportunity to swap media out and update the look with glass refractory, but those other suggestions will work for a repair with a little touch up paint

I would on replace things in fireplaces with factory approved panels and media.

Yea no shit buddy , obviously refer to the manual for parts kits specific to this unit .. figured that’s just common sense
