When stuff burns, spills, etc they release dangerous chemicals (Ever burned something plastic and seen the colored smoke?). So the gear they are wearing despite being cleaned is still considered dirty and can have dangerous chemicals on them. Gear like this isnt supposed to enter the kitchen or living areas to avoid cross contamination

omg what, nooo. also this has convinced me that I need to switch to edibles lol

ETA: wait so firefighters basically know that they are signing up to cancer by joining this profession? (or I'm guessing a lot don't realise)

I mean, you could say that about almost every trade, industrial job, or anything that involves cleaning chemicals.

While everyone is passingly aware that they work and live around dangerous things, not many people go around thinking about it.
