Discussion I know the weight; let's see how accurate the guesses are

These are two seperate pictures of the same fish, to be clear

It was weighed & harvested after an unfortunate gut hooking.

I have the scale pic ready to post, but I'm always curious as to how good the guesses here are, so wadaya think? If and when someone gets it right, I'll post.

Freddy Mercury didn't die, he just went bass fishing.

You're closest without going over!

28

u/NorCalMeds03 Jul 09 '25

Nice scale and nice smallie my friend

28

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25

Thanks!

It's a PB (I'm in Canada so they don't get too monstrous here) but I was frankly a bit sad about the gut hook. That said I gave him to a kid to eat AND I actually got 2x fish on the same rig (using a high-low rig for bottom feeders) so it was technically two records for me.

13

u/Canttunapiano Massachusetts Jul 09 '25

For Canada, that’s a pretty nice fish. Hell for anywhere that’s a nice fish.

6

u/nufftoogies Jul 09 '25

Canadian fishing Freddie, please carry pliers, forceps and some wire cutters for gut hooked fish. With some practice you can cut out the hook, remove both pieces and have the fish back in the water very quickly.

9

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25

I had and tried to use all that

The pliers did no good; only thing poking out of the back of his throat was the very top of the hook, so cutting what was visible would still leave the bulk of the hook in there.

We tried to revive him after all that, but no good.

5

u/Timex_Dude755 Jul 09 '25

At least someone ate him so he didn't go to waste.

3

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25

Yeah that's what I had to tell myself, and I gave him to a genuinely great kid, but I was still bummed.

Not the outcome I would have chosen - I won't be using that rig again if there's a risk of bass biting it: too hard to feel the bite before they hand a chance to swallow it fully

3

u/nufftoogies Jul 09 '25

Well that’s good. You tried your best, Fred. Love the vibes. Keep the posts coming. You’re a real hit.

6

u/firstmaxpower Jul 09 '25

If he had provided his height it make guessing weight easier. Come on OP!

11

u/Chose_carefully Jul 09 '25 edited Jul 09 '25

I'd say closer to 170

171 without the fish... 173 and 6 ounces with the fish

5

u/back_to_the_homeland Jul 09 '25

I would be so fucking mad. Borderline victim weight

10

u/BenntPitts Jul 09 '25

2.12lbs

4

u/Pyratelife4me Jul 09 '25

I'm going to piggyback with a Rush guess: 2.112

5

u/fun_crush Jul 09 '25

naa I think its closer to 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971

10

u/BumperJack69 Jul 09 '25

2

u/Fragrant-Willow1107 Jul 09 '25

My guess is 3.1

2

u/kitofu926 Jul 09 '25

My guess as well

7

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25

Okay we have a winner: r/pullo!

Honestly, it seems that the estimates are pretty solid, and leaned on the safer side (a lot of high 2s)

3

u/WinstonFuzzybottom Jul 09 '25

2 pounds, 3 ounces.

3

u/VaWeedFarmer Jul 09 '25

Going to say about 19", which gives you a 3 1/2 to 4 lb fresh. I drink and know things.

2

u/Topher0gr Jul 09 '25

I’d say about 2.1lbs

2

u/Hmccormack Jul 09 '25

Another bass bites the dust

2

u/Lemmyatwar1 Jul 10 '25

Another one bites the worm.

2

u/whaletacochamp Jul 10 '25

I’d guess 185 although the mustache might bump it up to 186.

2

u/OttoHemi Jul 10 '25

I'd say 4 to 5 octaves. Note: that's vocal range. I have no idea about the fish.

1

u/Holiday-Medium-256 Jul 09 '25

3lbs something. not 4. more than 2

1

u/JohnStamosSB Jul 09 '25

3.2, but that stache gets a solid 9.7.

1

u/MNgrown2299 Jul 09 '25

2

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25

Six feet, and I'm closer to 195 so not a bad guess

1

u/chewdog- Jul 09 '25

That small mouth bass is roughly 14-15 inches and is a chubster putting it in the ballpark of 2.0 to 2.2 pounds

1

u/Yota4x4RE Jul 09 '25

2.4 pounds

1

u/granolaraisin Jul 09 '25

Weight of the mustache or the fish?

Because both are 5 pounds.

1

u/CplCocktopus Jul 09 '25

Mama i killed a fish!

1

u/AJSAudio1002 Jul 09 '25

Ok, assuming it has a big belly, more than 3, not quite 3.5…. 3.3 is my guess.

1

u/YserviusPalacost Jul 09 '25

Another one bites the worm...

1

u/Still-Common-2513 Jul 09 '25

The mustache weighs 28 grams, dry.
