Discussion I know the weight; let's see how accurate the guesses are
These are two seperate pictures of the same fish, to be clear
It was weighed & harvested after an unfortunate gut hooking.
I have the scale pic ready to post, but I'm always curious as to how good the guesses here are, so wadaya think? If and when someone gets it right, I'll post.

Nice scale and nice smallie my friend

Thanks!
It's a PB (I'm in Canada so they don't get too monstrous here) but I was frankly a bit sad about the gut hook. That said I gave him to a kid to eat AND I actually got 2x fish on the same rig (using a high-low rig for bottom feeders) so it was technically two records for me.

For Canada, thatās a pretty nice fish. Hell for anywhere thatās a nice fish.

Canadian fishing Freddie, please carry pliers, forceps and some wire cutters for gut hooked fish. With some practice you can cut out the hook, remove both pieces and have the fish back in the water very quickly.

I had and tried to use all that
The pliers did no good; only thing poking out of the back of his throat was the very top of the hook, so cutting what was visible would still leave the bulk of the hook in there.
We tried to revive him after all that, but no good.

At least someone ate him so he didn't go to waste.

u/HowToDoAnInternet Jul 09 '25
Yeah that's what I had to tell myself, and I gave him to a genuinely great kid, but I was still bummed.
Not the outcome I would have chosen - I won't be using that rig again if there's a risk of bass biting it: too hard to feel the bite before they hand a chance to swallow it fully

Well thatās good. You tried your best, Fred. Love the vibes. Keep the posts coming. Youāre a real hit.

If he had provided his height it make guessing weight easier. Come on OP!

I'd say closer to 170
171 without the fish... 173 and 6 ounces with the fish

Okay we have a winner: r/pullo!
Honestly, it seems that the estimates are pretty solid, and leaned on the safer side (a lot of high 2s)

Going to say about 19", which gives you a 3 1/2 to 4 lb fresh. I drink and know things.

I'd say 4 to 5 octaves. Note: that's vocal range. I have no idea about the fish.

That small mouth bass is roughly 14-15 inches and is a chubster putting it in the ballpark of 2.0 to 2.2 pounds

Ok, assuming it has a big belly, more than 3, not quite 3.5ā¦. 3.3 is my guess.
