I believe you're not supposed to hold them virtically. It's bad for them. Their insides aren't meant for it in normal gravity.

Yup, better to grip them lengthwise, gently behind the gills! I had to learn too.

I put taking the video ahead of the fish care, my mistake. The next pike I caught I didn't even take out of the water.
