The bread to meat ratio in that photo is, atrocious lol.

u/morkman100 1d ago

Compared to the pictures on the menu, its even worse. I’d have to Karen that place up if they served that to me.

u/fkeverythingstaken 1d ago

What did you expect for $18?

14

u/LittleCheeseBucket 1d ago

Al antico vinaio serves a meaty boy for $20

2

u/spotpea 21h ago

And they pale in comparison to Lorenzos

3

u/AceBH13 20h ago

I went to Antico once about two weeks after they opened on Beverly. Never again. Lorenzo California is the best sandwich in LA right now imo.

1

u/spotpea 19h ago

Antico had a pop up at Coachella that was great. Tried the BH place 3x and it is terrible to be honest.

1

u/LittleCheeseBucket 21h ago

Haven’t been there yet! I’d like to try it out though!

1

u/spotpea 11h ago

Most Wednesdays they do a meatball sandwich that is next level.

1

u/Metal-Salt 22h ago

Hahaha, you're killing me.

That is the correct portion of meat for an authentic Italian sandwich (as well as sandwiches from many European countries).

Reddit’s response to culture shock is hilarious and disappointing. Maybe it should be cheaper  but that is how the sandwich is supposed to look.

Yes their sandwiches don't have meat piled on sky high but this is skimpy, even for EU standards.

Op even posted a picture of the same sandwich but from Italy. It's not even close to that. Or the pictures in the menu board that op posted.

-1

u/I-Have-Mono 1d ago

LOL, FOH! Most people replying are doing so because they have had the originals.

-13

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

What's wrong? This sub will glaze over the sandwich from Roma Market, but this looks almost exactly the same?

15

u/donorcycle 1d ago edited 1d ago

Do me a favor and go to OP's second or third picture of the menu board with the pics of the sandwiches. And then look at the photo of op's sandwich.

And then feel free to come back and ask me again what's wrong with the sandwich.

You bringing up Roma or Jersey Mike's or any other sandwich is just gaslighting at this point. Nobody is saying this sucks compared to insert sandwich chain. We are saying it sucks compared to Pino in Florence and it sure as hell sucks compared to the pictures on their own menu board.

Op even proved that further after posting a picture in this very, thread of the same sandwich in Florence.

After all that, if you still don't see anything wrong? Perhaps an appointment with your optometrist would be a good idea.

-16

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

I ain't doing all that lol. I'm not here to get upset about food. But you do you buddy boy.

12

u/donorcycle 1d ago

You're already in the thread responding to ALL of my comments. You can scroll the photo over one swipe?

Tells me all I need to know as you spout hate and incessant bitching over an opinion.

Enjoy your day.

-18

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

Yeah because you have a trash, negative attitude that loves to rain on others' parades. And your low-effort comments about pictures of food without even tasting them. We sure need more contents like yours!

Keep going on with your Jonathan Gold cosplay though! I'm sure this sub values your contribution.

6

u/donorcycle 1d ago edited 1d ago

The only one upset is you. Oddly so. Very. Negative attitude for speaking the truth? Johnathan Gold, you keep mentioning him. Should I know him? If anybody sounds like they're obsessed with him it would be the guy that keeps mentioning him in all the comments, no?

You're so full of manufactured rage, you're now using the same lines I used in your responses. You should probably talk to somebody or get on medication if someone's opinion that it's not worth spending $20 on a sandwich that's inferior to the original product and having to stand in line for 3-4 hours is that much of a stretch for you, then you do you. Enjoy the line.

2

u/I-Have-Mono 1d ago

You literally did do all that since you replied to every damn comment here.

Bread is the star of the show.

13

u/donorcycle 1d ago

I get that but it's not even the same bread you'd get in Florence. Same reason a simple KitKat tastes different in the EU than it does in the US. They have bakeries in covering every village / city in France. Because they're not allowed to put the BS in their food like we do in our country lol.

Lampredotto is about the bread. But we're in a country that doesn't understand how to bread. You stand in lines for hours for an inferior product to the original.

So. You're standing in line for hours and paying $17-19 (before taxes) for, bread?

-21

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

It’s exactly like there. Pino himself was here making it.

19

u/donorcycle 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but this isn't our first attempt at bringing over the authentic taste of Florence. All'antico ring a bell? Now go watch all the reviews and for those who have eaten in Florence and now here in LA, see what they say. I agree and found it lackluster to overseas. We can't even get pizza right from NYC to LA and you think magically we'll figure out sandwiches from another country?

As for Pino, (the owner) do you think he is going to stay here forever? I'm not even trying to be negative Nancy but how things run in this country vs other countries are vastly different - starting with the chemicals we allow manufacturers to put into our FLOUR, nevermind the bread lol.

There's over 30,000 bakeries in France alone for example. Italy has damn near 27,000 and we all know how small that country is. You know how in the movies, someone runs out in the morning, crosses the street and gets some Starbucks? They do it with bread.

This Pino sandwich costs $5-9 (USD conversion) in Florence. If you skimp on the meat and charge me $5, I can probably live with it. But you charge me close to $20 for that nonsense? I'm going to have a problem with it, especially standing in line for hours lol.

1

u/PrimeTravelTime 1d ago

Pino said that if he used American ingredients it wouldn't be authentic so he sources 90% of the ingredients from Italy

-7

u/donorcycle 1d ago

I'm not trying to be a smart ass but 90% original wouldn't make something authentic though, would it?

And you kinda proved my point. The liberties we take with our food are that horrendous.

-6

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

Good riddence, you want the sandwich to be airlifted from Florence?

This is why we can't have nice things, it's smartasses like you.

-2

u/oldgamer39 1d ago

The water they use is super important For the bread. He ain’t importing water so the bread will never be as good as the Italy version.

-22

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

I’m saying I have been to both and my wife and I both agreed this was as good. If you haven’t been to both the Florence and LA locations, I am not particularly interested in your speculation.

3

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

You're absolutely right and people just like to sound like smartasses on this sub to make themselves feel better. People LOVE to complain here as if they're Jonathan Gold reincarnated.

-4

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

You talk shit about American food but is begging for more ingredients on your sandwich. LOL. You want a subway footlong size? Or you want some more sauces on this bread?

1

u/spotpea 21h ago

They should just sell bread then and not pretend it is a sandwich. Have you even tried Mamie or Lorenzo? You wouldn't put up with this if you did.

-16

u/XxBuiyXx 1d ago

A true american

11

u/donorcycle 1d ago

Not even. Look at the menu photos in OP's pic. And then look at his actual sandwich.

It'd be a crime in any country tbh. Not just America lol.

56

u/CrazyLoucrazy 1d ago

Angelenos will stand in a line to wait to stand in another line.

38

u/I-Have-Mono 1d ago

They skimping out and rationing for the opening? Doesn’t even look like anything on the menu board!

-39

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

Seemed the same as Florence to me. There is my pic of the same sandwich in Florence.

91

u/donorcycle 1d ago

That looks NOTHING like the original photo you posted, lol.

29

u/sohryu 1d ago

I know you fuckin lying

20

u/Longbeach_strangler 1d ago

Are you joking? You think this photo and the other one you posted look the same?

15

u/XandersOdyssey 1d ago

Even if looked the same, you’re paying the equivalent of what. $5 USD in Florence? If you’re gunna pay $18 here at least go to Lorenzo

9

u/williaminla 1d ago

Did eating all of that salted meat mess up your eyes?

1

u/saidtheCat 17h ago

Hey there’s actually ingredients on this version! Not the same.

124

u/saidtheCat 1d ago

That looks pathetic

36

u/CensoryDeprivation 1d ago

That sandwich better be $4 lookin like that.

2

u/testfire10 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes but 100 people in line can’t be wrong

Put away your pitchforks folks /s jesus christ

7

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

/r/FoodLosAngeles's favorite past time is to make fun of people standing in restaurant lines to feel superior that they're above the normie hivemind. Oh the irony!

-5

u/testfire10 1d ago

I know, of all the places I thought I could skip the sarcasm…

2

u/saidtheCat 17h ago

Sure they can! Hype =/= good

0

u/testfire10 17h ago

Yes… that was the joke…

1

u/saidtheCat 16h ago

Oh. You phrased that poorly

-7

u/SinisterKid 1d ago

This is the same sub-reddit that fawns over Jersey Mikes though, right?

7

u/plata_plomo 1d ago

Piled high with meat, yes

81

u/CardiologicTripe 1d ago

That's a sandwich?

18

u/XandersOdyssey 1d ago

People want to complain about the portion sizes at places like Lorenzo and All Antico but they have 10x the filling that this sandwich has

44

u/cereal-sans-milk 1d ago

the amount of ingredients compared to the amount of bread in that sandwich is a recession indicator

15

u/notionaltarpit 1d ago

Thought u meant Florence in LA lol

14

u/HorseBellies 1d ago

People stand in line for that sandwich? The fuck is going on

29

u/Wonderful_Milk1176 1d ago

looks a bit shit innit

25

u/SherbertCivil9990 1d ago

This place will be gone by January with that bullshit sandwich.

14

u/whelmed-and-gruntled 1d ago

Thanks for the warning.

43

u/tbhcorn 1d ago

Where’s the filling

23

u/ssibalnomah 1d ago

That looks terrible lol

20

u/BrinedBrittanica 1d ago

please tell me you ate half of that filling of the first “sandwich” before posting

20

u/philosophyfox5 1d ago

I thought I was in r/shittyfoodporn for a second

20

u/Parking_Relative_228 1d ago

That is the saddest sandwich I have ever seen.

8

u/ppinguino 1d ago

this would be €5 max overseas

19

u/Longbeach_strangler 1d ago

Thank you for posting. I will never go there after seeing this sando.

5

u/SkiHotWheels 1d ago

Italians realizing that they can do the same thing with sandwiches that they’ve done with Neapolitan pizza. Why not open a US location and charge 4x

6

u/hi_jake 1d ago

Did it ask for a tip too

9

u/Techno_Viking9 1d ago

Looks dumb

4

u/lunazipzap 1d ago

17% scrandle

5

u/Hi-Im-High 20h ago

This is a struggle sandwich wtf lol

3

u/dawgoooooooo 1d ago

Never heard of this place, is it newer? Spent a ton of time in Florence ~15 years ago and antico was the post hash purchase spot so definitely recognized that when it came lol

5

u/Ill-Parking-1577 1d ago

What am I looking at????

4

u/TomIcemanKazinski 1d ago

How’s the line?

1

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

End of the block. At least 2-3 hours

14

u/frost-bite999 1d ago

2-3 hours IN THIS WEATHER?

2

u/TomIcemanKazinski 1d ago

Yeah I may wait. I don’t mind waiting for food but this is my neighborhood.

2

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

I am sure it will die down. Today was the first day

3

u/RoxyLA95 1d ago

It’s too damn hot to wait in line.

8

u/williaminla 1d ago

I want to drive by and laugh at whoever is stupid enough to wait that long for that food

2

u/OfficiallyJoeBiden 14h ago

Half of the food scene in LA really is seeing how much you can charge someone to eat something mediocre

2

u/BrainRobotron 10h ago

Everyone eating this shit after paying $25...

5

u/Cool_Cartographer_39 1d ago

$19? Ill take Jersey Mike's #13 any day of the week. Mike's way, light on the juice, no onions

3

u/matthew_klein 1d ago

How’s this compare to All’antico?

1

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

Both are good but I like the bread here quite a bit more. I enjoyed Pino more in Florence and I think the one here is better than all antico too.

7

u/palindromic 1d ago

A lot of people hating on this pic but if that focaccia is as light as it looks, and those cuts are salty and decadent.. I could see this being incredibly tasty.

2

u/theangryburrito 1d ago

It absolutely is. Perfect balance between the veggies, meat, bread, cheese, and pesto spread.

2

u/sowhat59 1d ago

My partner lives right next to it. He just txted me saying there's a loooong line. Lol

1

u/Spandexbrain001 1d ago

I drove by this afternoon. The line was crazy! I will have to wait for the hype to die down.

-1

u/fedswatching2121 1d ago

Culture shock for my fellow Americans expecting a pile of cured meat lol

-6

u/williaminla 1d ago

Why are you guys excited about fast food? It’s always the lowest quality ingredients
