Are these known to last?

Let’s do some quick math. Newest is 30 years old.
Yeah I think they’re known to last. FFS

Specifically this models drivetrain, etc

What’s in it? They had multiple options.

5.0 v8

It’ll be gutless. But they run.
If you’re expecting any sort of power, don’t. And as with anything 30 years old, shit breaks

4x4 with that rust? Probably, around here in the southeast anyway if it run and drives okay. Fix the rust and dents and it’s a $4k to $5k truck pretty easily.

Wheel arches and cab corners are easy and cheap. Look under it. Especially the frame and cross members. If she's flakey it could get expensive quick. Is this in the rust belt? Here in Maine, five year old trucks are already getting flakey. I fluid film my 06 GMC Sierra every year and it's holding up but it's a lot of work. I needle scale the underside and then shoot it. Dirty nasty work that. But, if yours looks good on the bottom, go for it. Looks pretty good to me from what I can see.

If it has the 300 i6 its basically gold and you'd be stealing it at that price

Nice price for a mud truck. If you want something to fix up nice I'd keep looking for a rust free one.

cheap for that year but still haggle and try and get him down. you'd likely at the very least need to replace those fenders and the bed. doable and easy to find in junkyards. body looks straight besides those areas. also definitely check the frame! with that amount of rust there may be rot below the surface. that it its a case like many older cars where wheel well trim traps dirt and salt rotting those areas out.

I don’t know where people live but around me this is a $1000 truck, and even then that’s a hard sell. The 1/2 ton, 5.0, and E4OD are not really redeeming qualities. Then again, depends heavily on where you live.

1800 ÷12= 150 bucks. If it lasts you a year and you don't want to fix it or can't be fixed it only cost you 38 bucks a week to have a truck.

I just bought an old pickup for $2,500 and I’m having regrets because of the rust. I’m just hoping mine is safe enough to drive for a couple months.

Oh yeah, sure is. Especially if the frame checks out. Of course it’ll be a crusty rusty mess, but as long as it doesn’t have any current weld patch jobs, and no cracks or busted welds, sub-frame intact, it’ll have well over 2k in salvageable parts alone. Hopefully she’ll fire right up, if it’s the 5.0 V8 it’ll be worth it to wrench on and make into a Beautiful vintage driving old Ford.

If it's a running truck and it's been maintained well. I would get it, but again I like the older trucks too more then the new trucks now

If it has working ac then yes.
With 4% unemployment anything that starts and rolls is a thousand. Working ac adds a thousand. After that is all about condition.

We had a Ford F150 4x4 that we used on the beach for life guarding. The guys rinsed it everywhere they could reach after each shift. It lasted 2 seasons until the frame rusted from the inside out. With the rust in the fenders, I’d check the frame real good, if pretty solid I’d buy it

Give the frame a good look before you buy it. With that much rust it could have issues.

If it’s the in line 6 snag it, if a v8 leave it..👌🏼

u/Financial-Sea8252 5d ago
What’s wrong with the 8

u/ChiefBig420 5d ago
Nothing really wrong with it, just this deal wouldn’t be as good. Research that yourself. Goodluck!

u/gchance92 5d ago
The straight 6 is a good reliable motor but its not worth more than either v8 option.

Aside from what others have said about reliability, bear in mind that this model had only 1 fuel tank while all the others had 2. Ford made dual tanks standard sometime in the late '80s or early '90s, except on short bed 4WDs. There wasn't enough room in the frame for a transfer case and the front tank.

If it runs I don’t think that’s an unfair price at all.
