They really left him alone lmfao

I want to start by saying that this is just my personal opinion that I want to share: if I were to recommend this manga to someone, I'd tell them not to read past 116 because everything after that just really isn't as good.

I just finished reading and honestly it feels like the last 90 chapters were just a waste of time.

The modern arc introduced uninteresting characters (Yuki's family and friends), forgettable characters (Hanna) or just unlikeable characters (Hirotoshi).

The "you didn't really get rid of the nokkers" bit felt like the story was forcing itself to be stretched, and felt lazy compared to, say, "nokkers are gone for good, but humans still don't live in peace" which WAS one of the themes of this arc but it was only explored as a per-individual topic. It would've been a lot better if the story were to focus on national conflicts and wars instead, corruption, poverty, etc etc.

Mizuha started out very interesting but got "early Tonari" levels of annoying very quickly, and she just wasn't nearly as good as Kahaku who's probably my favorite character. I get that it's because she's manipulative but it could've been delivered much better.

Too many contradictions, things the characters don't question, things taken for granted without making sense.

The future arc also started out really good but just like the modern arc it didn't really hit the same as the previous arcs... Somehow neither Fushi or #32 felt like main characters. (Yes I didn't skip anything)

Then there's the finale...

I could keep going on and on but I think you get the idea.

In my honest opinion, the story can be considered over at the very end of the of the war arc, chapter 116. Yes, some questions are left unanswered and some things are left hanging but almost everything got resolved and almost all characters (except March iirc) lived their lives and died. There was no reason to come back, at least not until the very end. And you absolutely don't need to know that the nokkers aren't really gone.

Again, just my opinion. I'm very open to other people's opinions, and can be convinced that I've been looking at it the wrong way.

I've been following this story ever since right after Season 1 of the anime. A friend of mine said "so this just finished its first season and it's really good and it's by the mangaka behind A Silent Voice and one of the main characters is voiced by Seto Kaiba" and I decided I was in. (Mostly because I trust his recommendations... though also I was the one who recommended A Silent Voice to him, and knew it would be quality.)

Then I read the manga, binging all the way to the modern arc. From there, I generally became less consistent, returning to the manga about once a year to catch up since I knew I'd be on the edge of my seat if I read each chapter every release.

So yesterday, a different, anime-only friend that I myself has recommended To Your Eternity to mentioned that the anime was getting a third season, and asked "do you think it'll cover the end of the manga?" I was amused, and said "doubt it, considering the manga isn't even done yet. It'll probably just be the modern arc."

Then he said "uhhhh I'm pretty sure the manga ended a couple of months ago."

Fifteen seconds later, Google confirmed for me that the manga had ended, and I'd been none the wiser. So today, I went out and bought some fried chicken, and then checked my list of "last chapter read" entries and found out that I'd last been on Chapter 175. I quickly realized that time had gotten away with me, and I was actually almost two years behind. I've been busy, but I didn't realize that I just never got caught up at any point during last year.

I've reached the journey's end. Some thoughts...

1. I guess I always knew, ever since the modern arc, that Fushi's friends wouldn't be with him forever. It made sense that they stayed with him as long as they did, since regardless of what they wanted, they're still loyal enough to not leave him alone while he's still doing battle with the Nokkers. It's rather bittersweet, though. Maybe one day, he'll pass on like the Man in Black did as well, and he'll see them and everyone else who moved on in Paradise.
2. March finally becoming a biological mom brought me to tears. I wasn't sure it would ever happen, especially since there were previous lives where she reached old age but somehow never found a husband or bore children. I wonder if the hubby knows that his wife is actually damn near a thousand at this point? It was so sweet when Fushi commented that she's finally a mom, and she told him that she's already had a son. Funny how the smallest of them was always "God's mom".
3. I wasn't surprised Tonari never fessed up about her feelings in the end. I was disappointed for sure, but she's always had difficulty being honest with her feelings, and furthermore, Oima doesn't really seem to like truly committing to romantic endings for her leads. Shoya and Shouko from A Silent Voice never officially ended up together, either, even though they care deeply about each other and Shouko fell in love with Shoya around halfway through the series. And let's be real, if she could never fess up even after nearly a millennium, the last three hundred year-long stretch probably wasn't going to wring it out of her. She's more than just her crush on Fushi, and I'd even say that I respect that she chose to move on to Paradise instead of endlessly clinging to him.
4. Nono getting a sudden return to plot relevance out of nowhere was surprising. Learning that she had been practically imprisoned and suffering all that time was even moreso. After seeing what the world ended up turning into in the future, I had honestly had a sneaking suspicion that she, along with the rest of the Nokkers, was actually just trying to trick humanity. I've scarcely ever felt worse for misjudging a character. I'm also glad that, at the end of the day, there was somebody who loved and valued Yuki, even if he pined after Mizuha.
5. The end with the Nokker felt inconclusive and like it might have threatened to come back. Though I suppose if over 300 years passed and it didn't even attempt to make a move, Fushi probably doesn't actually have anything to worry about from them. Though if it really isn't going to bother them ever again, then I do have to ask what caused it to change its mind.
6. Pioran kind of gets a raw deal, doesn't she? Surely she didn't spend the rest of eternity as a horse. Surely she makes it to Paradise as herself!
7. I don't get why Fushi ends by saying that he's home, right when he's about to start another journey. However, I do like that he isn't going to just hole up in his recreation of the boy's home forever and he'll go out and start traveling again.

I'm still kind of struck. This time yesterday I didn't even know that it had ended yet.

This is the definition of Aura in my opinion; not some strong character striking some epic pose. It's determined characters much weaker than their enemy, facing certain death without fear.

We're nearing the end so I was wondering what everyone's thinking of how it will end, me I'm hoping that it ends with fushi still being with his friends & comrades I mean let's be honest nobody should handle this kind of journey by themselves ya know, and also perhaps maybe Tonari & Fushi ending up as an official couple The author has been giving hints that she's been planning and having those two ending up together and it makes sense for them to be together well to me anyway.

How do you think it would end?

I’m confused about Abel’s background. His family adopted him but when he shows up at the door with the guy who works from Kaibera he’s covered in robes that hide his face and stuff. And then later the guy from Kaibera is like, oh you didn’t get the chip implanted?

Is Abel a kid that the Kaibera guy picked up somewhere or is it his own kid which he gave to this family to adopt?

Why did Abel choose not to get the chip implanted?

Around the time Hirotoshi gets introduced, it really felt like the writing took a hit.

Many instances of inconsistencies happening in a row:

• Fushi entrusts a sword to Hirotoshi and lets him fight a Nokker instead of protecting him.

• Mimori has her underwear visible in some panels instead of shadowed.

• While Hirotoshi is getting beaten up by Mimori, Fushi didn't seem to feel his pain like usual.

• Nokker Mimori outing itself instead of staying hidden felt like a very blatant plot device to make real Mimori want her body back and establish the "some people didn't really to die" point, it's been pointed out by ruling it as an "extreme case" by Nokker Funa.

• Hirotoshi could've been written as a "only child who was very lonely and/or envious of other families and really wanted a sibling" instead of a fat loser pedophile.

• Nokker Funa only targets The Man In Black (now Satoru) only after Yuki explains to Fushi, and to the reader, that he's probably their main target. It's possible that they targeted him in the past but it's not hinted at or foreshadowed at all, and it doesn't make sense that they'd try the same thing twice.

• When Funa's classmate asks her for the hair tie, she completely ignores Fushi—who's the hottest guy in school and has been absent for days—standing behind Funa in ancient clothes.

• Some scenes just feel really stretched out...

Am I the only one who feels this way? I love this manga but I'm currently in chapter 146 and I'm not liking this new arc... It started out promising but I'm not liking it so far.

If I were to recommend this manga to someone, I'd tell them to stop after the war arc, because the story imo can be 99% considered over at that point.

I have my own grievances about how everyone's character was cast aside for the sake of ending the story—like how Gugu was supposed to be Fushi's brother to the end—but for now I'd prefer a distraction from it all.

All good things come to an end. I’m grateful for being able to enjoy this story over the past few years. Maybe Oima will have more waiting for us in the near future?

It’s a new journey for all of us. Where will any of us go? Who knows what’s in store? Only time will tell. Can’t wait to see the full story animated.

I gotta be honest, this felt like an unnecessary addition to the story for the sake of having one just having finished it 15 minutes ago.

The premise is interesting with the whole star value thing, Immortal hunt and futuristic aesthetic but everything else is so….. meh. Let’s go over what I liked.

1. The beginning. I liked the stable dystopia aesthetic in this arc. Its very weird and imaginative with the changing body parts, upside down buildings, weapons and combat.

2. Star system. Very interesting concept

3. Immortal hunt, nice conflict and a sense of danger for the cast

4. The final message regarding Fushi’s character that ill get into at the end

Thats about it

Now for the negatives

1. The Mizuha clones

2. Anton

3. The warriors

4. Doll

5. Rabbits character

6. Final confict

7. Everything just works out….. again

So regarding the Mizuha clones, if you saw my review of the modern arc you know I didn’t really care for Mizuha as a character and found her to be one of the weaker parts of it. So naturally I didn’t care for the clones.

Part of my problem with them was, what’s the point of them? Its never explained why the clones were made. They didn’t actually serve any lasting purpose in the arc other than confirming that Mizuha’s dumbass started Kaibara. I appreciated #15’s story however and how it inspired #32. But that’s all. Maybe if they had some control over Kaibara, it would’ve been more interesting. But they were just experiments.

Next we got the Star System. Its an interest concept but very underrepresented. We see the top echelon for 5 stars and bottom with 1 and starless. I wish we saw how people lose stars and more of what life is like for 2 & 3 stars. Do they work? Do they have businesses? How is there day to day? When did the Star system start? Does the whole world use it? After Anton becomes a 5 star, it focuses more on the chip overall rather than the stars.

Speaking of Anton, not much to say. But this is where i’ll combine his point with the warriors. Once again referencing my review on the Modern arc, I found the warriors very underutilized except for Bon and Tonari. To be fair, with the immortal hunt, the warriors were more active than the modern arc…. Without characterization. Besides March becoming a birth mother in the final chapter as well as Iddy speaking and Gugu living without his mask, not much else is done with our protagonist group. This brings me to an interesting idea I had for Anton and the warriors, specifically March. Why couldn’t he have been her love interest instead of the weird crush on Tonari? I feel like itd be a more interesting development for them (Obviously March would be aged up to 8 and it would be a one sided crush for him until they age up in the epilogue) and give them SOMETHING to do.

Now lets talk about our deuteragonist, Doll…. Just didn’t like her. Felt like a self insert OC from a fanfic. As for Rabbit, I don’t understand just what he’s supposed to be. Why does he want to end humanity? Is it so Abel can be in peace? Is it guilt over Abel’s mom? What does he want???

And to wrap it up, the final conflict. So, the Nokkers kill everyone, Fushi absorbs the Orb, revives everyone AGAIN and takes on Hayase’s Nokker…… wtf.

My main issue with the Renril arc was that everyone just got revived like a disney ending with no consequences. And it happens again. Everyone is okay. No casualities no nothing. It takes agency away from the entire arc. Once in Renril was questionable but made up for in the Modern Arc since the characters live out their lives and pass on. But now, everyone just lives??? We’ve seen how fast people can move on to Paradise from Alame’s death. I know Fushi stopped time during this but none? What was the point of this???

So yeah. Now we get to the final chapter. It truly was an “To your eternity”. It was heartwarming seeing March grow up, Gugu get his face fixed and Iddy speak. I also appreciated the final message of Fushi now reaching true adulthood, ready to take on the world on his own.

Overall, this arc gets a 6/10

He was able to revive an entire city but not her or she didn’t want to be revive ?

Just finished re reading the “ Peaceful world “ arc and I wonder if the next arc is as good or better then the past arcs like Renril or Jananda.

I read some of the chapters like two years ago but I got quite bored with the Doll being the protagonist so I dropped it.

"Everyone is kind" god I hated that quote so much

Editors need to piss off with the new trend of purposely rushing the final chapter just to drive up sales for the volume release. Most recent example being my hero. Ruined most people's perception of the series just to release TWO more chapters after the quote on quote "ending".

I personally dont wanna read the manga since i dont enjoy it, can u tell all of the people he revived?

At first I had a really bad time with the manga (whole arc after Pioran dies) and I literally had to push myself to read it but when I started reading the whole new arc when they get revived into the modern world I wasn’t excepting such a gap in quality and an increase actually, I just finished the 19th volume with the death of the « beholder » and godamnit it was so good. I really enjoy the series now and am glad I kept reading it. If you find a manga bad its never a waste to keep reading it in my opinion and this manga made me realize that even more. I just hope the manga doesn’t lose its greatness with the few volumes I have left to read to be up to date.

I just finished episode 19 of season one and I’m wondering why didn’t the man in Black tell Fushi there was a Nokker in the water/underneath the boat I thought he could sense them or something when they are close enough, even though they can camouflage themselves with their surroundings because I don’t know why he would just ignore one right there.

Massive spoilers for the characters and story. You've been warned.

I might get a lot of hate for this, but I just feel like I need to talk about it.

It really feels like the manga has fallen off. I remember last week while I was binging the whole thing, I was reading the modern arc and thought "well, this is different, but it's alright." That opinion has definitely changed now that I've had time to think about it. I remember reading a review for the manga on MAL that basically said it was a masterpiece up until chapter 116. I disagreed with it at the time. I thought they're still the same characters and it's still entertaining. But then I read more of the modern arc and past it...

My first gripe is how trivial death is now. Before, it would cause these bittersweet moments where although they were gone they were still with Fushi. I remember realizing that at the end of Gugu's arc where he's "talking" to him. March was in the background. She was still there with him. That made me so happy. But now it's not possible for moments like that to occur anymore because no one will ever die. I remember reading that little bonus page that had the last page of that in universe romance book about the crucified lovers. It hurt me. In the best way possible. Moments like that feel like they aren't possible in these new chapters. Or, at the very least, they won't happen.

My second issue is how the characters feel different in some of the worst ways and the same in also the worst ways. I was really mad when the author/artist didn't let March grow up. We saw that she should have at least gotten taller like on the second volume's cover. But no, instead she's the same size, looks exactly same, she didn't even get to have a family. That's literally all she's wanted as a character and the author couldn't give it to her. Now, instead she's an immortal warrior in Fushi's merry band of misfits. Bon is really cool in the modern arc. I love him. But he doesn't feel like the same Bon that was introduced however many chapters back. Maybe he matured or something, I don't know. But he just doesn't feel right at times. Like his quirky personality was extracted and replaced with the cool adult personality. It just feels wrong to not at least have a little of the original.

Another issue is how quickly the characters adapt. I understand that it's up to the author with how they're written. But not once does Bon lement that he can't live with his wife(?) or child anymore. To him it's all normal. Maybe he got over it as a ghost, but that just seems like a giant oversight to me. That goes for Gugu as well. I was really happy that we got to learn what happened to Rean. But outside that, she's basically forgotten, and Gugu never does anything to honor or remember her as far as I can tell. I understand that in the grand scheme of things, things like that doesn't matter. But in a manga that's main theme is not forgetting people, moments like those could have really helped with character development. It really adds into them feeling different or inhuman. Like they're all just cardboard cut-outs of themselves.

The time skip to the modern era also really bothers me. I don't mind time skips. I didn't mind it the other times it happened. But this time the author skipped the whole entire industrial revolution. That is so much content for a fun and interesting story replaced by Fushi taking a gigantic nappy while March fucking kills herself next to him out of sadness. When I learned that, I was so mad. Why author? You can't get emotion from death anymore because you made it trivial, so instead you have to flash back to a little girl taking poison? It could have just been left at they all passed away. Like you did 30 or so chapters earlier. Sure, I thought it was weird that Bon, for example, got a scene with his family when the rest did not. But you didn't need to explain it to me if the explanation is that. In case you can't tell, March and Bon are my favorite characters. I just really hate how the author has treated and changed them.

My final gripe is the trivialization of Nokkers. In my opinion, they should have stayed blatantly evil. Many of the people in Fushi's crew watched their loved ones die, or did die, at the hands (tentacles?) of the Nokkers. Am I just supposed to forget the part where Tonari freaks out at Fushi for trying to honor her friends in his own way, before turning around and forgiving the things that killed her friends literally in front of her? Did the 3 knights forget the part where they fought for perhaps weeks on end, dying countless times to them, just to befriend them once they're revived after 500 years? It doesn't have to be that way. The author could have made them more threatening without having to stir empathy for them. Why not have them form their own nation or something? Make it like a demon lord story, you know? But I suppose it's too late for that. Instead we get super micro chip land where Nokkers get to functionally be inside everyone. Nice.

This all culminates into the future arc. Now it feels like nothing matters. It doesn't matter if someone dies, Fushi can just revive them. Their personalities also feel warped now. They're so mean to each other and always fight for content. It just feels like this arc has no purpose. Like it's just here to pad out time and do nothing. Because what is there to do? No one can die now. Fushi and the others just hung out and let this stupid company take over the world. All they can do is change the company. But then what? No one has died, no one has changed. If Fushi was going to want the super power ball now, why didn't he just accept it in the first place? The only thing that has functionally changed between now and then was the world around him. I just don't get it.

Don't crucify me for this please. If you disagree with me, let me know. I really want to continue loving this manga, but it just doesn't feel right anymore. Please, convince me otherwise.
