Voicemail notification won't go away
I cannot get the voicemail notification to go away! I've already contacted my service provider to disable voicemail, I've cleaned the cache and date in all the different phone apps and in the call apps. It will go away on it's own when I clear the data from the call app, but a few minutes later it comes back! Soooo annoying!! Any other ideas?

Not sure if people have this issue still, I just had this issue and managed to remove it, all I did was the following below:
Go to Settings, then to apps, click the three lines next to your apps, sort by name and also click show system apps, scroll down to phone services, clear cache and data I then went to phone and di the same thing and it has now left the building.

This worked for me, but after the reboot, the voicemail notification shows up again. In the end I just call myself, left a message and then deleted it, and that removed the notification. Thanks for the help though.

How the heck did that work? I entered and dialed my own number. It sent me to my voicemail which said "you have no messages". Hung up and all the sudden it was gone. That's weird. Let's see if it comes back next time I get a voicemail.

I'm on ee and when you leave your voice mail to yourself don't just hang up wait till you hear are you happy with your message then press 4 ,worked for me after deleting the voicrmail

Yep just get another voicemail even from yourself. Then delete. Works everytime.

I called myself from my work number, left a voicemail, then deleted it from my cell. This was the only way it would go away. Thank you.

Nothing works for me. I have s24 ultra but this reddit is all I found.
Tired of the pop-ups. I don't swipe away the notification from pull-down but it's always popping up on screen constantly as if I'm swiping it away every 5 seconds.
It's. Osteen waiting til my finger is a single millisecond away from hitting the screen then fucking up Prime video by sending me to voicemail app and putting me 5 episodes in the past and having to reset, or it's when in on Twitter and it happens just to re-hide posts with that idiotic sensitive/adult media thing or force reset Twitter feed just to block me from ever seeing the posts I happen to wanna see.
It's insane just how bad this one bug can screw up any app. But most of the time it just feels deliberate just to screw me over constantly.

There is no way to access Phone Services even though it's the app causing the notification.
1
u/Ellipsis_3006 Nov 10 '23
Hi there, when you click on the sort function at the top of you click show system apps it will appear. Click phone services, storage and clear cache and data.
1
u/Jolly-Caregiver-9431 Dec 02 '24
It did not appear for me after showing system apps, restarting, phone services is just not there

u/pavoganso Nov 10 '23
Amazing, thank you!
I've had it for a month and I there were two phone services apps I had to clear data from.

I did it and the notification is still there, what do I do?
1
u/Ellipsis_3006 Feb 23 '24
Did you remove cache and data from phone services, I've had it stay there before once and it was because I actually had a voicemail.
1
u/ByteMe1337 Sep 11 '20
You have to listen to all new voicemail messages to get rid of it, hit 2 to save or 3 to delete each one so it knows you've listened to them
1
1
u/EscapeWestern9057 Feb 23 '22
That doesn't help. I don't want to listen to voicemail, I don't want to open the voice mail app every time some idiot leaves me a voicemail. I want to not see voicemail notifications or at least swipe them away like I do with every other notification.
1
u/roadrunner5u64fi Sep 24 '22
Did you ever find a fix for this? Same thing on my s22 and it bugs the shit out of me. Half the reason I got an android phone was because they're so customizable, yet the one notification I can't do anything about is voice-mail messages??
1
u/EscapeWestern9057 Sep 24 '22
Yes and no
So I found out at least what I believe causes it. It's caused by your cell provider not the phone itself. Basically when there's a new voicemail, your provider keeps spamming that fact to your phone constantly. This is why you can't make it go away.
On MetroPCS they have a "visual voicemail" app. This allows you to look at the list of voicemails and delete them without listening to them or having to call in like most voicemails. This at least makes it easier to get rid of that annoying notification.

u/roadrunner5u64fi Sep 24 '22

I know it sounds strange, but actually I want to have the voicemail notification even after I hit the clear button and I'd like it to only to disappear after I listened to my voicemail. The reason is because I get many notifications and between them might be a voicemail. When I clear all of them I clear also the voicemail notification and never listen to it, I miss it. I tried to turn off my visual voicemail, but then I won't get any voicemail notification, only a missed call notification. So how do I do that? Do I need to call my provider?
1
u/EscapeWestern9057 Dec 21 '22
On my phone, visual voicemail gives a notification. Make sure notifications are turned on for it
1
u/Ok_Brilliant8382 Dec 21 '22
They are, but still, when I clear the notifications it clears the voicemail notification too from the top left corner.
1
u/Ok_Brilliant8382 Dec 21 '22
I guess there's no way not to clear it before listening a voicemail if I clear all notifications. At least I was able to set voicemail notification reminder, but again it only notifies me before I clear notifications.

In my country they charge for that, which is a feature that no one uses here, just telemarketing. So, that's not a good solution, having to pay just to delete them.

I've had this happen a few times - have someone leave you a VM, then go in and delete it. It should reset the notification.
2
u/kricket3142 Sep 11 '20
I've already had my service provider disable voicemail. I never had the service set up in the first place so how could someone leave a message?
1
u/mjoseph998 Sep 11 '20
I wonder if that might be the problem - because your phone can't verify you have no VMs because VM is disabled, it won't get rid of the notification????? Super weird.

Yo, thanks I tried literally everything from clearing caches and data to having to reset my app preferences every time that voicemail logo showed up. I never had any voicemails and every time I reset my phone it would just come back. I had somebody leave me a voicemail and it went away and stayed away even after resetting.
1
u/RogueLovesRemy Sep 11 '20
Have you looked in the phone dial pad? In the bottom corner you'll see a VM symbol and possibly a orange bubble with a number. Click and listen/delete. YMMV.

u/7S0C9 Sep 11 '20
I would call your service provider and get them to turn voicemail back on and get someone to leave you one so you can go in and delete it then get your provider to disable voicemail again if you don't want it. If that doesn't work, and it's really annoying you, you could ask your service provider to issue you a new phone number and sim card. If all else fails, maybe try resetting your phone to factory default (this option will probably work best if you decided to try a new number/sim card).
I'm not sure if any of those suggestions will work or not because I've never had that issue but I would imagine at least one of them will fix it for you.

- Open main phone Settings
- Scroll down to Apps
- Tap the 3 dots in top right corner
- Tap Show system apps
- Tap Search apps and enter "voice"
- Tap "Visual voicemail"
- Tap "Storage" then "Clear cache" and "Clear data" (if not greyed out)
- Go back to previous screen and tap "Disable" at bottom right
- Reboot

u/TomVa Sep 12 '20
Another thing you might try is to use what ever method your service provider uses for dumb phones to check for messages. For example with Verizon it is to dial #86
1
u/JoyousResin May 10 '24
This thread kinda old, but imma throw in my 2 cents.
I use an Samsung Galaxy A05s. And there are about 4 or 5 different system apps related for the phone app.
Specifically, the "phone services" app, you need to clear the cache and storage for it.
1
u/Gunshhi Jul 01 '24
I'm sure this is a dead thread- but force stopping my phone app did the trick (after clearing cache and data/listening to the voicemail/disabling all voicemail notifications). Obnoxious.
1
u/kascrz Jul 23 '24
This worked for me.
1. Open the app info for the phone app.
2. Go to Storage and clear cache and data.

u/xKeNniii Aug 12 '24
IF ANYONE HAS THIS ISSUE, HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
I assume you have no voicemails to listen to, so therefore make one yourself by calling yourself and leaving a voicemail. Then listen to it, delete it, and the notification should go away ! 😁

Right, I had this annoying problem for 2 days. Could not get rid of the answerphone icon on my Samsung. Nothing in Settings would clear it!! 😡
Fix: Go to Phone, Keypad. Type in your own number, and call yourself. Wait for the answerphone, leave a message. Ring Voicemail, delete message. Bingo! Worked for me. Good luck 👍🙂

After changing carriers, mine will never stop, no matter what I do. It will disappear for awhile but it always comes back. So I took a sharpie to my screen. Problem solved.

u/edrrrk Oct 26 '24
Im late but same. I disabled the visual voicemail app entirely, deleted its data. After listening to each voicemail and it still pops up. It annoys me so much bc i only allow notifs for apps i care and whenever i see voicemail it wastes my time opening my phone to see it
1
u/Unlucky_Guess_5886 Mar 03 '25
I've just cleared mine by calling voicemail and going into settings in the voicemail and the notifications and switched notifications as a text msg rather than icon. Worked a treat
1
u/Previous_Branch_518 Mar 05 '25
Unfortunately, after looking phone app and settings, there is no any option in settings section to delete icon, there are no any buttons for settings

I had this problem. Annoyed me for months then I went into Settings > Apps > ... (top right) > special access > change system settings > turn off visual voicemail
Even after disabling it and calling my carrier- the notification for voicemail persisted. This worked!
1
u/No_Proof5941 May 28 '25
Ressurecting the old thread. The solution which worked for me is to open App in settings, three lines icon (Filter and sort) on the top right of the list, switch on the switch "Show system apps" and (IMPORTANT!) tap "ok" on the very bottom. Then, in the app list, find "Phone services", open it, go to the storage, clear cash, and (IMPORTANT!) clear data. Voila! Works as never before! Enjoy everyone with OCD and without it, cause I thought I will get OCD as well because of those damn notifications!
1
u/Swept-in-Shadows May 29 '25
Everyone here keeps saying "delete the voicemail". Yeah that works, but I don't want to open voicemail and listen to it, I want to swipe the notification off the notification list like I can with every other one. I get too many telemarketers to bother deleting messages. Swipe and ignore please. How?

u/Demozide Jun 17 '25
Samsung default dialer won't let me disable the voicemail notification alert type. So I installed Google dialer, went into voicemail settings of that sim and disabled the notifications. I hope this helps someone.

Call your voicemail listen to your messages you'll see it go away. Just long press one on your keypad and you'll get it.

So this issue just happened to me after my last software update on my S20 ultra. I figured out the issue after a few hours. Maybe this will work for others as well if it happens to them. I never actually set a voicemail password on my phone from when it was new, and would just click the visual voicemail option and click play on each voicemail with the number it came from to hear my voicemail. Then suddenly the stuck notification happened. I went into my phone app , then settings, then voicemail, and I when I got there, there was a box that said "set voicemail password " once I set my password I then clicked on the notification and dialed the voicemail box number and entered my new password i just set. After that if you fully listen to all new voicemail, it should clear. I also deleted all my voicemail while I was in there. The notification cleared as soon as I finished. Hope this helps.

u/Successful_Wish6661 Mar 24 '24
This is almost exactly how I did it also. It never came back even after a turning phone off and on. I did not listen to voice mails tho just deleted them.

u/AdLate1731 Jul 24 '23
I went into voice-mail and just deleted everything in the archive. Got that notification off my screen.

u/idij2 Sep 21 '23
For me I had voicemail setup, but no messages, but still having that notification there all the time.
What worked to clear it was calling my mailbox directly from a landline (for my provider you can bypass the call and go direct to mailbox by calling "prefix - 5 - number" e.g. 0123 5 12345678), and leaving myself a message. Then from the mobile call voicemail and delete that message. Notification gone after a mere 6 months of irritation.
As an aside I used to work for a mobile phone manufacturer (Nokia), and this bug was by far the most common thing reported back then 20 years ago when voicemail was much more in use, so glad to see it's still around even though nobody much uses voicemail anymore! You'd get people complaining that their notification count was too low or too high, or that they had messages but no count, or a count of messages but no actual messages. I think the voicemail app development team concluded that it was basically impossible to implement correctly given how the network message from the provider that indicated that you had the voicemail worked. It is just a badly designed system that was inconsistent across providers, and seems nothing has changed in that regard.

LEAVE YOURSELF A VOICEMAIL!!
1- Disable Caller ID
2- Call yourself without Caller ID
3- Leave a Message
CHECK YOUR VOICEMAIL AGAIN
1- Enable Caller ID
2- Check voicemail
3 - Delete the voicemail
Problem solved for me!!

I don't know if people still have this problem so I'll throw my 2 cents in.
Clear cache and data didn't work for me. I had this notification for weeks and it never worked.
Someone said get someone to leave you a voicemail then listen to it and delete it.
It worked and the notification didn't come back.
Thanks whoever said that.

u/TheGratitudeBot Nov 12 '23
Thanks for saying thanks! It's so nice to see Redditors being grateful :)

u/CashmereGrass Nov 25 '23
If noone has sorted this annoying issue out yet, I finally sorted it after weeks of having the voicemail notification on my phone (and trying all of the clear cache etc. resolutions)
I simply had someone else call me, and leave a voicemail message. I then saved the message, left answerphone, called back again and deleted the message.
Now it's gone.

If you can't get rid of the voicemail notification on your device, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check Voicemail Inbox:
Make sure you have listened to and deleted all voicemails in your voicemail inbox. Sometimes, the notification persists if there's an unheard voicemail.
Reboot Your Device:
Restart your phone to refresh the system. This can often clear up minor glitches, including persistent notifications.
Clear Phone App Cache:
Go to your phone's settings, find the "Apps" or "Applications" section, locate the Phone app, and clear its cache. This won't delete your voicemails but might remove any temporary data causing the notification.
Update Phone Software:
Ensure that your phone's operating system is up to date. Sometimes, software updates include bug fixes that might resolve notification issues.
Contact Your Carrier:
If the issue persists, contact your mobile carrier's customer support. They might be able to reset your voicemail indicator or provide specific guidance for your device.
Reset Voicemail Settings:
Navigate to your voicemail settings and check if there's an option to reset or refresh voicemail notifications. This could vary depending on your device and carrier.
Check for Third-Party Voicemail Apps:
If you're using a third-party voicemail app, ensure it is also updated and configured correctly. Sometimes, conflicts between different voicemail apps can lead to notification issues.
Network Connection:
Ensure you have a stable network connection. Poor connectivity might cause delays in syncing voicemail status with your device.
Factory Reset (as a last resort):
If all else fails, you may consider a factory reset of your device. However, be cautious as this will erase all data on your device, and you should back up important information before proceeding.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it might be worth reaching out to your device manufacturer's support or your mobile carrier for further assistance.

I have had this problem almost a decade ago with Telus on Galaxy s4 I believe , couple years later I switched to Bell and never had the problem, and now just recently switched back to Telus and now I'm back to this stupid annoying annoyance. I am on galaxy s10. It is definitely a carrier fault or a Samsung one.

That way it bothers me a lot less. Clear Cache didn't solve for me.
