Question Need help finding a campsite
Hey, my friends and I are planning to camp in Georgia in December and need to find a suitable campsite. I've never camped in Georgia, so I'm not familiar with the regulations and locations. Right now, I am looking for a secluded site that's preferably along some kind of body of water or, at a minimum, just a beautiful place to camp and explore. The two non-negotiable things are that it needs to be accessible for smaller cars and very isolated from other people. If any of you can explain what camping here is like in December and any suggested areas to look at, I would really appreciate it!

Check on the recreation.gov site, lots of small campgrounds in north Georgia. Most are accessible via gravel roads, depending on your comfort level driving on that type of surface. Frank Gross, Jacks river fields are two I’ve been to, both were very peaceful on creeks

Unfortunately, Lake Conasauga campground is closed during that time. Though I have seen folks backpack/canoe in and set up shop. You could park/start at the overflow camp and take the trail around to the lakeside. I have never heard of folks getting in trouble camping there when it's closed, but it's been awhile since I've been to that area.
Fort Mountain is actually quite nice in the off season. Nice fishing in the lake and several really nice trails in the area.
Woodring Campground at Carters Lake is also very nice. You do have to park and carry your stuff to the tent camps. Water is kind of hard to get to right there as the lake has pretty steep banks. If you get there early, you can get the site at the tip of the peninsula and you'd have access to water.
Also HIGHLY recommend boat in camp at Carters Lake. The sites are amazing, primitive and right on the water. You need a vessel to to get there. Basically right across the lake from the only marina at Carters. It's right by the dam and the sunsets are perfect. Every time I've camped up there, there MIGHT be one other group camping. Sites are far apart.
