Question Paranormal experiences ?

Hear so many of these "true" scary camping/hiking stories on youtube alot set in Appalachians . Id love to hear any first hand encounters. Id like to find the closest place with the highest chance of any type of encounters. And possibly a hiking/camping partner or small group to go with . None of my freinds are interested lol please feel free to message me

I mostly just spook myself. That feeling of when all you can see is what the fire’s light touches, and everything else is just black. The only noise you hear is the creek, and every now and then a crack of a branch. You just know that something can see you out there, but you can’t see it.

More of a cryptid sighting than paranormal- but I swear I saw a gar that must have been 10 feet at Allatoona. I’ve affectionately dubbed it “Al the Tuna from Allatoona”

Near the Allatoona dam, there's larger catfish. Like 50 lbs catfish, it's possible there are other kinds of large fish around there.

Legend has it that Lanier has Volkswagen sized catfish

I have heard that as well.

Oh damn, that’s pretty much where I saw it. I guess that’s one of the deeper parts of the lake so that would make sense.

Awesome what part of allatoona

Down by the dam. Worst part was I was on a little inflatable raft so I thought the damn thing would pop it.

Cool I live right down the road from the damn

Eyyyy we’ve got the same one on Lake Lanier. Charlie the Lake Dragon, the 10-15 ft gar!

my wife and i both , for about 30-45 seconds straight, saw a floating blue light on the Gahuti trail. it wasn’t freaky or scary it was just mesmerizing and beautiful. it moved and looked just like a firefly, but blue. the internet tells me the blue ghost firefly wouldnt be found in north georgia but … we saw something

I don’t believe in Sasquatch but I saw a large black ape like creature jumping between trees in the canopy and snapping branches along the way. I can’t explain it but I refuse to accept it.

Where did you see this at

North east Georgia…deep in national forest by the South Carolina border (Chattooga river). It was in the shadows but activity last for a good 5 mins. I have neighbor with a credible sighting in that same area.

Again…I don’t believe in big foot…but I can’t explain what that was. Best explination is that it was deadfall limbs creating a delayed domino effect and my brain created a large ape from the shadows…but I saw eyes…

Nice that you've thought of a non cryptid / supernatural solution to something weird you've seen. I saw an insanely bright, huge, fast streak in the sky that made a crazy change in direction and disappeared.

Thought it was a massive meteor far enough away to make no sound, and maybe it broke and the direction change had a lot to do with the angles.

Which it turned out to be. Big one hit the ground near Dallas, ga.

Fuck it, let’s go! South of Atlanta here but I typically drive north to go camping. I also have young kids so haven’t been able to do shit for a minute. I’ve only really camped in Suches (rock creek) and a few spots in TN and NC. All about 2-3 hours from me. Everything else was in the Everglades.

I completely forgot the purpose of this post and was just all about wanting in on it 😂

I don’t know about any paranormal hotspot camping areas but I did see some cool stuff in the Everglades growing up.

What did you see? And hopefully some of might give us some lead on some hot spots

Just the typical “did you hear that?” kinda stuff spooky stuff. I had a friend swear up and down he was hearing a “whirring” noise up in the sky all night like there was something hovering over us, but me and the other guy weren’t hearing it. And I totally communed with the woods in like, a meditative state or something, and it imparted information to me that I later checked up on and was very much factual.

I’ve made it a point to stargaze everytime I camp in the hopes I see a UFO or something, but never seen anything cool like that. Hopefully one day.

Yes . Seeing is believe and I want to believe

This is the way

Maybe just hiking off the appalachian trail towards the thickness area?

Not that I would ever camp there but Habersham County has a place called The Refuge that has given me the heebie jeebies any time I’ve been there after dark. You can see eyes in the darkness, mostly probably animal but that doesn’t make it any less intimidating either, especially when you hear some of those big cats cry out and scream.

Would also have to recommend Lynch Mountain in Sautee

And I’d be remiss to not mention the Tuberculosis Sanatorium with matching graveyard in Alto.

Habersham is just fucking weird bro

Ok ! That sounds good to me .

Kind of a known but unknown spot and not giving away to much but Dawson forest WMA. Spooky backstory, spooky in person, but felt haunted as hell at night. Camped one night there in viewing distance of what that forest is known for, and by far the most Erie feelings and sounds at night I’ve ever experienced. I don’t believe in haunted things, but that place might be the only thing that’s changed my mind.

2

u/Pre_Malone92 3d ago

I don’t believe it’s open to camping anymore though. I think they banned it some time ago, but can’t remember.

Got plenty of haunted stories though up north. Crazy history in dahlonega and certain places have haunted vibes.

The Cohutta has some really weird vibes in places. My parents stayed at the overflow years ago and some really creepy stuff went down. I've hiked/camped up there many times and had my own weird experiences. Some natural, others not so much.

1

u/UnlikelyBird3466 1d ago

I love to heard about them

One was circa early 90s. My parents were tent camping in the overflow area for Lake Conasauga. The only other campers were a couple in a pop camper. It was pouring down rain the entire time. Middle of the night, some guy comes to my parents' tent begging for help. My Dad sat up and told him to "move along".

The next morning, my Father spoke to the wife at the pop camper and asked if they'd heard anything strange. She said yes, a young man banged on their camper door pleading to be let in.

The husband told him he could sleep under the camper.

The next day, husband drove the guy down to town. It's a long ride down the mountain, so the young man retold the story. The wife did say the guy looked like he'd "been roughed up pretty good".

He and a friend were camping when a group of redneck locals came into their site. Apparently, the locals began harassing them which escalated to his friend being beaten badly. We all assume, maybe the guys were an item and that's why they were targeted. The guy didn't even know if his friend was alive. He fled the site and sought shelter at the overflow.

Another time, I was camping at Jacks river falls and walked to an empty area to wash up and change clothes. Ours was the only group down there at the time.

I'm pulling on my clean pants, and I swear to all that's holy, it sounded like someone was rushing up to me from behind. Like really loud boot stomps coming right at me. I grabbed my large knife and spun around - but nothing there. Absolutely no one even in sight.

Another time, we were staying at the overflow - us, another couple and two small kids and dogs. Probably around 9 pm, some rando drives up - definitely looking like a local (there were some rough folks up there back in the day). So my friend's husband goes and talks to this guy and and tells me "can you tell creepo how to get back to the road?"

Okay, so this area is not somewhere you just find yourself accidentally if you're not going on purpose. So I walk about ten feet from his truck, sidearm on my hip and my very aggressive shepherd at my side. I ask the man where he's trying to get to and he vaguely says a road name (that I know of, that is nowhere near where we are). The whole time I'm explaining to him how to get there, he's looking past me scoping out our site. So this guy had some really sketchy ulterior motives - but thankfully, the dog and the firearm kept him at bay for the night. And he didn't return.

Another time we packed down Tearbritches to Bray field and were camping. Four wheelers revving all through the woods (they're not allowed up there). After dark, like five wheelers come racing into camp. They were moving a guy who had died on Panther Creek falls back out the mountain. Tragic. The weird part, they chatted us up a good hour while the dead boy is right there on a mobile cart. It was just unsettling.

the Upper Chattahoochee WMA, north of Helen (I access it via a fire road off of Hwy 75) is well known for cryptic sightings. I have actually seen a cryptic (or a wild man...there are reports of wild men living in the vast wilderness up there). there are several camp sites of that fire road. literally hundreds of reports from that region.

2

u/IronMike5311 2d ago

I was exploring the Sautee Nacoochee Center when I scared up a bear next to the road - heard him but didn't see him. Back at the HQ, when checking out, the ranger asked 'So how was it?'. In my dry I mentioned that I either came across a bear, or maybe Bigfoot. Without missing a beat, the ranger replied "Nah, that's a bear. Them bigfoot are farther north." Of course he was politely dismissing me, but I thought it was really funny.

1

u/UnlikelyBird3466 3d ago

Ok cool . Ive hear there are feral people in the deep forest

I mean, there is no such thing as actual paranormal things. Whether its ghosts, aliens, cryptids. Its all made up. Certainly our imaginations run wild when we are out in nature, in the dark, and out of our comfort zones. But none of it is actually real, no matter how convinced someone is that they saw something. So the middle of your street at 2:00 on a tuesday is just as likely to have a real paranormal experience as 20 miles deep in the the backcountry on a full moon. I've spent many weeks backpacking all over the southeast for the past 20 years and have seen nothing scary/weird/paranormal.

Sounds like what someone would say to keep me out of the woods looking for strange things !!! Lol
