First time I watched I didn't know and just rolled with it because I thought it was the kind of show that started in the middle lol

I only found out after looking for discussions and finding recommendations to skip those episodes

I also started from ep 1, but I was already aware about what people thought of it online. I figured, well if the people who created the anime say it's episode 1 then it's episode 1. I'm not gonna make episode 3 be my episode 1.

Imo, it literally makes no difference. You end up getting to know the characters anyway. Yea, episode 3 is considered the first episode, but think of it this way: when you watch a show on TV for the first time, does it tell you which episode it is? No, otherwise you wouldn't watch it, because you'd be staying from episode 10. Instead, you just watch the episode and you get to know the characters as you watch more episodes on TV.

And staying Gintama on episode 1 is exactly the same. You watch those first 2 episodes, you get a feel for the characters and the show, and then you get to know their stories in later episodes.

Yeah, I must've watched them when I first watched it as a teenager and forgot them because I tend to have blanks in my memory like that, even if it is a hyperfixation/special interest series. (Plus as I wrote in the comic/title it's been nearly a decade lul)

I do think episode 3 stuck with me more as a "first episode" cuz it was the one I, thinking back to what I did remember, recalled most and starting from that point makes the series (introductions of new characters especially) paced better.

I like to think of it as a typical Gintama troll. I know they’re the jump special episodes but going back through it just makes sense that Gintama would randomly throw in filler for the first couple of episodes. Though I know originally I almost stopped there when I first started watching like some sort of nincompoop.

Lul, yeah, I like to say it's like they pulled the "3 episode rule" hahaha

I wish they had at least titled them "Jump Special" or put them in the middle of the first season. Meanwhile, the cherry blossom viewing chapter was supposed to be very early on because it expanded on the Yorozuya's relationship with the Shinsengumi and it was placed 100+ episodes in after a clip show.

Great art, btw!

Yeah, it's even more confusing navigating the series on yar har sites cuz there's like 50 different series of the same title and 50 movies (😭 exaggerating but y'know what I mean)

And thanks! More to come πŸ°πŸ’œβœ¨οΈ

Is that a JoJo reference to my favorite joestar. Also I believe those first 2 episodes were for manga readers

If your favorite Joestar is Joseph, then yes!

(Gintoki and Young Joseph share the same VA)

that's why for most of the anime it is better to look up a guide for watch order.

If I remember correctly you could also skip some episodes and watch their movies instead

Disagree, at least for Gintama. Even the filler is good.

You should watch the episodes and the movie. I think the benizakura movie also has a spoiler

I honestly don't remember anything cause I watched it 5 years back but I remember watching everything

Yeah, I should probably do that. Doesn't the Benizakura arc have its own full movie?

Have any watch guides you recommend?
