Event Tuesday Southern Gothic Novel Series Inspired by The Craft

Post image
Upvotes

Good morning! I’m not sure if there are any readers in this group but I just wanted to take the time out to say I finally achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a published author a few weeks ago, and with fall and spooky season upon us, for those looking for a seasonal read you might be interested in my debut novel titled “I Am Human: Sisters of the Serpent.

It’s a Southern Gothic coming-of-rage novel series set in 1995 New Orleans, where i use myth, music, and magic to tell the story of a feminist-fueled Revolution. The story follows a group of outcast Catholic schoolgirls who uncover a forbidden ritual linked to the ancient myth of Lilith the world’s first woman, and its first exile. Unlike traditional novels, the chapters in my books are instead called “Tracks,” titled after a real-life pop or rock song that resonates with the mood and themes of the story.

At its core, it’s a story about women refusing to stay small or silent—facing down misogyny, faith, and family to reclaim their power. What begins as a secret sisterhood soon awakens something dark and unstoppable within them, transforming their bond into a full-blown reckoning with authority, religion, and the roles society has tried to force upon them.

If you’ve ever watched movies like The Craft (1996) The Crow (1994), The Witches of Eastwick (1986) or even Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) this novel was heavily inspired by a combonation of those films. Thanks for your time. (Pen name: August Night)

Removed/Rule 2: Music Relevancy What do you think of the new AFI songs?

Upvotes

Been following the new direction AFI has been taking lately.

I think their goal is to do an album in every genre and movement of punk, and they’ve succeeded in doing that very well.

Their new stuff is very Goth, if you’ve listened to it what do you think of it?

Goth Recommendation Request Any band/genre recommendations?

This is my first time posting in this subreddit and you know...I still consider myself a baby bat still since I really started exploring and getting into the goth scene like a year ago in terms of bands and stuff like that. Style wise is easy for me but like the style is not my main concern it's more so the music. I've gotten a decent list of bands I listen to but sometimes I get confused because there's bands that sounds goth but they aren't goth and I get scared if I meet another goth person they're going to know that the band I say is not goth (if that makes any sense) so I want to be as accurate as possible. Plus, I just need new bands to listen too because well...I am a heavy music lover 💀 I feel like I have a lot bands but at the same time I feel like I don't have a lot of bands...(I feel as though I try too hard to impress other goth people since I really wanna make some goth friends...)

Here's a couple of bands that I listen to to start off (and please do correct me if anyone on this list is goth or not):

  • Sister's Of Mercy (top goated band for me right now)
  • Diva Destruction
  • Haunt Me
  • Black Angel (yes I know they use ai and plus I just discovered this band weeks ago but like...they sound so good though 😭)
  • Moonspell (my top favorite)
  • Then Comes Silence
  • The 69 eyes (Imma be real I listened to one song by them. I still gotta listen to more of their songs)
  • Paralysed Age
  • London after Midnight
  • Noseferatu (I really hope nobody thinks I'm naming the character with this one, there's an actual band named this 😭)
  • The Awakening
  • Clan of Xymox
  • Virgin in Viel

It's a long list...but at the same time not that very long of a list. I was going based off who I listen to the most as of right now and whose songs I have the most in my playlist. But recommendations I am free to take!

Art Have you ever heard a song and an image pops into your head? That's this, when I first heard Nott Eftir Nott, by Kaelan Mikla.

For context, this character is a holy warrior whose natural gift is the power of Necromancy. She was forbidden from using it, but casted it during a desperate battle.

Kaelan Mikla has been a massive inspiration from a bunch of characters.
