Recommendations Ferry to Crete

Hello, I will be traveling to Greece in a couple of weeks. I will be splitting my trip between Santorini and Crete. My question is should I book my ferry to Crete in advance?

I heard somewhere in a travel vlog that it’s best to book the day of or day before? Is this true?

I can’t speak for best practice, but I booked Crete to Santorini at the height of summer at midnight the night before a 6am ferry without issue. I didn’t get a nice window seat but it was absolutely fine.

Off season? You wouldn't be having issues even in August.

We will be there the last week of September. Is that considered off season?
