I’m not sure people are celebrating it so much as they are saying “well what the fuck did you expect when you hit a cop?”

Edit: By saying it should be expected, I’m not defending his actions as reasonable or holding them up as good policing practice. I think American police culture is too quick to resort to violence and is horrible at de-escalating situations. But, that all goes into why I said it should be expected. I’m not saying it should be accepted or condoned, only that I fully expect an American cop to hit you back if you hit them.

Why especially if it's a woman?

Because we have been indoctrinated to believe that women are categorically unable to defend themselves and even on the rare occasion that they are possessed by the Spirit of Manliness and become capable of violence, they can do no harm

That woman could have hit the cop 100 more times and it would have done less damage than he did in 1 hit.

Is that because of her vagina, or because she's drunk, physically restrained, and has less muscular cross-sectional area than the other person?

The first statement plays into your final one. She is a woman and naturally is significantly smaller and weaker than that massive police officer. She is also being held by other stronger humans and yes very clearly drunk.

She is a woman and naturally is significantly smaller and weaker than that massive police officer

And let's consider a thin, ectomorphic man. Is he smaller and weaker because he's a woman?

u/YoungCinny Nov 05 '17

He should also not be treated in such a way.

See you have to come up with these off the wall scenarios to somehow prove to yourself women aren't weak or something. 99% of the time a woman is going to be weaker. It's a rule of thumb.

I know the average woman is weaker than the average man. Sexual dimorphism is extremely common in nature and humans actually have remarkably little of it compared to other species. My point is that the notion that "women are weaker than men" is a useless generalization. It doesn't actually predict or prove anything, and in many many cases it's completely false. It's just a useless way of thinking that only serves to make your thought process lazier.

While I understand what you are saying and agree with you it is also.important to remember that men are generally physically stronger than women and can cause more harm.

So, a large, fit, man hitting a smaller woman isn't really the same as a fit man hitting another man in terms of potential damage.

While I understand what you are saying and agree with you, it is also important to remember that men are generally physically stronger than women and can cause more harm, yet this chick still decided that she should slap this large cop in the back of the head anyways.

She's dumb, no one is arguing that.

I knew someone was going to say this. The fact that someone can be killed by something as little as a punch to the head does not mean that an old lady is as dangerous as a trained MMA fighter, for example

Falling off a 5ft wall could kill you, falling from 100ft could also kill you. But if you had to choose one to fall from it would be a very easy choice.

Perhaps they're conflating the MMA fighter to the 100ft drop and the old lady to the 5ft drop? Still....

It's not nonsense or irrelevant, some threats are worse than others; that is an objective fact.

You can be killed by almost anything but if someone pulls a knife on you it is still more dangerous than someone just wanting to punch you. I am not saying one isn't dangerous, they both definitely are, but the knife is still more dangerous than a fist.

I think that's probably the gist of our entire conversation. We both agree but still argued.

I choose...MY ASSHOLE!!!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '17

Well, she should have chosen a better target then. Don't fall back on the fact that she's drunk. That was her mistake.

You’re probably not aware but the level of strength a woman has is fractional compared to a man. I understand you think women should get violence visited on them if they get violent themselves, but it’s important to remember they’re not as strong as men - bear that in mind when you’re drawing back your fist because she slapped you. Oh, and bear in mind there might be a bunch of people who think you need to get violence visited on you in greater proportion for it, too. You can call them white knights if it makes you feel better.

How much can you lift with your balls?

I ask because when I learned basic anatomy, I was told that what matters is muscle cross-sectional area (and in the case of punching, the size of your fist, in which case smaller = more force). Not how many testicles you have.

1

u/groatt86 Nov 05 '17

You think punching power comes from the size of the first? Punching power starts in the ass/lower back muscles with proper technique.

2

u/noooo_im_not_at_work Nov 05 '17

No, it doesn't come from your fist, it goes to your fist.

Think of it like a pipe coming out of a tank. The water coming out of the pipe doesn't come from the end of the pipe. It comes from the tank. But it comes out the end of the pipe, and how forcefully it comes out depends on the size of the pipe.

Basically, if you take a given amount of force, and distribute it over a known amount of area, there is more force per unit area in a smaller area. Hence, smaller fist = more force per unit area, assuming a constant amount of force.
