Advice Curious about picking your first or new handgun? Curious about a model or caliber? Stop here first! Resources etc.
Multiple posts concerning selecting a new (first) handgun, or first defensive guns have popped up.
I dig activity on our page, I'm all for thoughtful discussion, I'm all for us exercising our rights.
However, this subreddit has been around long enough now we have a good collection of folks asking mostly the same question and I think we can streamline this process for our existing members, newcomers, and curious browsers alike.
So! That being said, there are some links to outside websites at the bottom of this text that have decent advice on choosing the purpose of use, caliber, size, model you may be looking for when selecting a new or first handgun.
The articles are typically focused on new shooters or at least folks new to handguns. Many will recommend training, hands on time, etc., before your first purchase and if you have the time and funds I definitely agree, but research your trainer/facility thoroughly.
Eventually I will try to curate a well rounded list of the most popular makes and models in various categories. I also intend to make a few polls for the active community to vote on a few things as well.

Behold, garbage 22!
My first revolver. Why did I buy it? Because it was 100 dollars. The trigger is surprisingly good. The grips were trash so I swapped those for some real wood jobbers.

Tested new barrel
Lakeline barrel on a Taurus G3c, it far exceeds the stock barrel I had. No feed issues at the range today, it ported too, and feels better on target acquisition. It was jamming every 8-12 rounds. Now it has no hang-ups. It’s still a Taurus, just thought people would like to know if they are having feed ramp issues. Also tried my new Canik TP9 elite sc, it was beautiful, that trigger 😍 also tested a G 43x, damn that thing is light, and feels nice, and it ruuuuuuuns. I may now be into Glock…. Hmmmmmmm 🤔
Thoughts?

Question Purchasing first handgun
My wife and I are both looking at purchasing our first handguns in the near future. I wanted to see why brands we should stick too when searching. We want a budget each of around $600ish. There is so much info out there that we know we need to go to the range and to a gun shop and see how these guns feel in our hands but I just wanted to see if there are some brands to look for and some brands to avoid (and why if so)

New redhawk setup
Took the advice of a member here and updated my 40yr old ultra dot that was on there. I like the look of that rail system honestly. Its different and i think its pretty sweet. If I don't like that sight on the pistol im gunna throw it on a carbine or something. Cheers

Your Favorite Handgun for Concealed Carry?
Hello Handgun Reddit, I, 23M, am finally getting my Concealed Carry Permit and wanted to ask you guys what you would recommend for a good first concealed carry handgun. Reliability is my primary concern, with weight/size and capacity following in that order. Basically I want something that will 100% not blow my nutsack off when I am carrying it (or the person behind me if I underarm carry) without it being too heavy or cumbersome. I am open to any and all suggestions.

Question Question, handguns that run no matter what?
What are some of your favorites when it comes to “just working” I’m not talking flat shooting, perfect trigger, or how it feels. I’m talking what are the handguns you could put on your side and no matter what you go through(mud, snow, sand, rain…etc) it’ll run when you need it to?

Put together this RXM build. Was it expensive? Yes. But it shoots like a dream. So much nicer than my glock 19

Shopping for concealed carry…
Now is your chance… tell me what YOU recommend for concealed carry. For reference I’m 6’3, 230, so I could carry something a bit larger than micro.
I will shoot and report back on all recommendations. Thanks in advance!

For those of you who run suppressors, what's been your biggest pro and con so far?

I've been picking up most of my accessories from this site I really trust, but I'm always interested in hearing what other folks are using

Advice Needed Recoil fear and lack of grip strength.
I decided to look into getting a pistol for myself. I tried out 2-3 out and I had three take aways from it. Firstly I think I’m set on a 4.0C echelon or a m&p 9mm performance center in metal. Second was that I still have a bit of fear when it comes to recoil. I find myself hesitating or fearing in a way before I fully depress the trigger. Just knowing the recoil is coming. Third is I have a hard time gripping it. I kept limp gripping compacts causing them to jam up. I did better with the full size echelon but still found myself losing some grip in my right hand (non dominant). I think the grip issue is mainly due to breaking my right collar bone a year and half ago and the arm being weaker compared to my dominant hand. I am curious what I can do to help build my grip strength back up for shooting. I have started going to the gym consistently and I’m sure that’ll help some. I’d love to carry and get a pistol but I don’t think I’ll be ready/safely be able to keep a firearm till I can solve these issues. I’d appreciate any advice.

Advice Needed Roockie here, I need some guidance.
I am looking for a gun to both conceal carry and hone defence. Right now I am between the Glock 43x and the S&W MP Shield Plus. Tonight I am testing both before making the purchase. Anyone has comments on either? I will also be getting training (which I already have received in the past), but if anyone has more comments I would appreciate it.

Beretta 92XI with Holosun
My Beretta plate arrived today so I installed my red dot. Looks a little odd, not sure if I’ll keep it on the Beretta, but I’ll leave it there for now.
