I remember him saying they started turnstile from just them hanging out skating together

Dudes 35 btw. I know that isn’t old, but I’m 33 and can’t imagine skating the way I used to. Good for him

If it makes you feel any better I couldn't skate that well at 18, mostly because I can't skateboard at all, but still.

I'm 30 and really want to learn to skate, but I've already broken an ankle once so I'm too scared I'll fuck myself up trying to learn 😅

u/craggadee 3d ago
I learned at like 38, I coast around with my kid and it's the best thing ever.
Main thing is to take it easy, you don't have to hit gnarly jumps and roll your ankles trying to kickflip. I get most of my enjoyment out of just navigating the street and hitting chilled hills.

Nah, you should do it. Even just learn how to coast around and how to go up/down the ramps at the park and stuff. It's really fun and a super good reason to get outside.

Anything after 30 on a skateboard is incredibly impressive. Signed a 45 year old and everything hurts.

Ran into Franz (the bassist) at a skatepark around ten years ago, in the Nonstop Feeling era. Dude was ripping.

Sick, yet there are still people in this sub who don’t skate or play in bands calling this dude a poser or a sell out lol

u/Solid_Initial7897 4d ago
No idea he also was legit skater. Sick!

Basically the whole band shreds. Like they could hold their own in a pro am contest.

For real? Had no idea. That’s rad. I guess on the road it’s a hobby that travels just about as good as anything.

I’ve always wondered, do skaters use photos from failed trick attempts?
The pictures would presumably look pretty much the same, but I know skaters can be a prideful bunch.

u/bickles_cab 4d ago
Sometimes they do. You'll see a pic in a magazine and then you'll watch it in their video part and they'll be wearing a different t-shirt or something.

u/thrillAM 4d ago
If they made the trick in that session, sure. Can be hard to tell exactly which shots were the successful attempt. If they didn't get the make, no way.

u/beef_boloney 4d ago
Plus even if you know it wasn't the make the picture just might be better and reflect the trick better

its unethical to run a photo of a trick if you didnt land it.
but it is okay to use a photo of one of the bails if the angle or light or pose or framing or whatever is better than the landed photo

u/Eoin_McLove 4d ago
So you can use pictures of failed attempts if you eventually landed it (rule of cool applies) but ideally you would use a photo of a successful attempt?

Back in the days of when it was film, yes. Now not that common. Shit gets called out quick.

Tbf I saw an old video on someone’s socials of him skating way back and he took a fall on something simple that clearly took him by surprise so he’s definitely human haha.

That turnstile in SF video from a couple years back was sick. Franz does a nice Ollie down like an 8 stair or something

I honestly had no idea he skated at THAT level. Everyone I know skated at some point in their lives and we were all typically ASS but had a great time. It was more about the culture and having people that were like-minded. There were levels and tiers in my area that were pretty clear and defined. The coasters-ollie-shoveit-slappy crub tricks class(80%). Next tier were the guys that could do that and basic flip tricks. Kicks, heels, pressureflips etc.(12%) Next tier were dudes that could ollie REALLY high and do gaps and drops and grinds.(6%) Next tier were guys that could do everything but at another level of crazyness - especially when it came to rails.(2%). Vert is a whole other story - we didnt have Vert people where I lived. Miniramps were "kind of" common and I didnt know any standouts on the miniramps.
He looks like a good street skater forsure. If hes in Thrasher hes got to be good.

I didn't think skaters asked this question. I thought it was widely accepted in the skating community that fashion trumps safety. I love skating, but the attitude towards helmets is cringey as fuck.

Hell nah. Not hardcore at all. This guy just cannot get right when it comes to hardcore punk. Bring back Step 2 Rhythm. Hang up the skateboard pal. Not okay.

Skateboarding, Taco Bell and alt rock. This is peak 1990s. Next we’ll get Brendan as a secret character in THPS 5 or 6 or whatever they’re up to.
