IRL How long would you last in Hell's Kitchen?

I would not be able to handle the pressure and stress at all. I would get ejected during opening night like Louie, or I would be like Peter in season 19 where I straight up tell Gordon that I can't do it, and he tells me to take off my jacket and fuck off. Lol.

I could probably handle the pressure, I could probably handle the stress... the problem is I can BARELY cook, so I wouldn't last at all.

12

u/The_sad_zebra Jan 28 '25

I can cook, but I've never cooked most of the things that they cook for dinner service, and I don't know how to judge the doneness of something by feeling it.

5

u/Glittering_Bet8181 Jan 29 '25

As someone with self diagnosed ADHD, I can handle the pressure. But yes I don't know how to cook.

2

u/zachattack9 Jan 30 '25

same on all counts

64

u/StickyHandsDick Jan 28 '25

I'd probably pull an Aaron (s3) and cry the whole time before collapsing. RIP my guy, what an impression you made.

2

u/acquireCats Jan 30 '25

Same. I'd either pull an Aaron or a Dewberry.

I think a lot of people don't realize that being able to cook at home is one thing, being able to cook on the line is entirely different.

u/Ok_Measurement482 Jan 28 '25

I would think maybe 2 services and then I’m done. First service I could hide behind someone else and then I’d be screwed, because I don’t know how to cook half the stuff they cook. Garnish and some meats I’d be ok at, but fish, apps, and the majority of meat I’d be screwed

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Meat and fish is easy I’m worried about like risotto or like greens. I rarely use salt and don’t feel like stuff needs it so he’d be spitting mine out sayings it’s not seasoned . A meat thermometer would make it easier to cook meat and fish, it’s takes trial and error without or guidance from someone.

Not even applying.

u/Roxelana79 Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

I think I would last for a couple of episodes. I am pretty good at "zoning out" of yelling, lol.

Also, I would try to not get involved in the drama. Like, be a decent nice person to everyone, without excessive "hating" or "loving" some. At some point you will have to work together, hell, you may need them when you end up in the finale. And for all but 1: you still need to find an employer, who will have seen your behaviour on TV.

19

u/kidblinkforever Jan 28 '25

I’d be a great customer lol

15

u/7Clarinetto9 Jan 28 '25

I burn water so...

13

u/Adorable_Mode_8254 Jan 28 '25

I'll be kicked out right after serving microwaved sandwich as my signature dish.

10

u/clipsahoy2022 Jan 28 '25

I'm imagining you Monique'ing this.

"And the sauce on the sandwich...home made?"

"No the sandwich is just like, from a gas station. If you wanted it home made you should have told me!"

5

u/CastleBravoLi7 Jan 29 '25

the Amtrak cheeseburger just hits different

8

u/Julie-AnneB Jan 28 '25

I don't perform well with people screaming at me. I'd be one of the first to go.

8

u/LDQQXDJ Jan 28 '25

I cant be worse then Louie i hope

7

u/Genuinelullabel Jan 28 '25

I’d trip on my way off the bus 🤣

6

u/blazetrail77 Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

I can cook but the stress of a kitchen would get to me if I'm falling behind. If I'm doing fine and I know my dishes then I feel can be clear and vocal. But then when it comes to the challenges I know very few excellent dishes. It's not where you're eliminated but I'd be terrible on that front.

6

u/Slow_Opinion_3341 Jan 28 '25

I'd probably make it to the end of the signature dish challenge before Chef would realize that I'm not a very fast cook and kick me off the show

6

u/loueazy Jan 28 '25

I'll make the black jacket club.

Try to ingratiate myself with the producers and Ramsay enough with drama and some out of left field dishes so that I can last long enough to really grasp the menu. I might be put up for elimination like almost every time and might perform like shit in some challenges, but with enough perseverance I think I can plead my case and end up with a Virginia like run. Hopefully I can get easy ingredients to get at least 3/4 on the taste test and I'd already be on the top 20% of chefs all-time.

I mean if Jacky could do it why not me 😆

I don't even smoke.

6

u/theg0dfather4 Jan 28 '25

If you have got a great personality for TV and really really good at stirring shit up , you can easily last atleast 3 service without any cooking skills

5

u/xomissblonde Jan 28 '25

I‘m a chef and I like to think a good one but the stress, the challenges and being filmed 24/7 would get to me. I may make top 8 to black jackets depending on competition but I wouldn’t win

4

u/schw4161 Jan 28 '25

I’d be fine during dinner service since I worked in a high pressure, busy kitchen for a long time, but I would have no confidence in making something unique or fancy for the challenges. So probably mid-early to middle of the pack.

5

u/MattTheMechan1c Jan 28 '25

I’d be eliminated after he tried my signature dish 😂

5

u/hagridsbestfriend420 Jan 28 '25

I'd like to think I'd last a long time ... but in the end if it's the wrong day and someone's yells at me I'll break down crying not cause I'm sad but because I'm frustrated and then I'd start acting like whit honestly I know myself. Although I would show enough respect to Ramsey to thank him for teaching me and giving me the opportunity

4

u/Dangerous-Ad-9757 Jan 28 '25

I can’t cook so… probably would get ejected mid first service haha

4

u/WannabeKornacki Jan 28 '25

I would be good at challenges and bad at service (:

4

u/mattyGOAT1996 Jan 28 '25

Just kick me out if Ramsay says "Do you want to go home?" After having an awful signature dish.

4

u/ActuaryFirst4820 Jan 28 '25

I worked in kitchens for a long ass item and probably would make it until the craziest dramatic people left, depending on the season 5-6 episodes maybe? Eventually my ADHD ass would mess up timings and serve raw chicken or some shit though.

3

u/llamapartyarrrgh Jan 28 '25

Zero. I would crumble under the pressure and am already not a great cook. I'd probably accidentally start a fire or serve raw pasta.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

i'd be out first service

3

u/MasterPlatypus2483 Jan 28 '25

I can’t cook for shit and just enjoy shows about cooking/food. With that being said my entire life has been about defying expectations and proving haters wrong so if this were the early days where you could be inexperienced and I was taught well I feel like I could have a good redemption arc where I start out as a donkey and then fight back and just miss black jackets.

3

u/Over-Shallot-3712 Jan 28 '25

Not good enough as a cook, and don't want to work again in a restaurant ever unless I have no choice, so probably not long lmao

Also I don't want Gordon to steal my signature dish, he would be too jealous of it.

3

u/Somesmiling Jan 28 '25

The first impression meal…. He would be very unimpressed 😮‍💨

3

u/LampyV2 Jan 28 '25

I'd be thrown out along with my signature dish of cut up hotdogs and Mac & cheese w/ ketchup.

3

u/DealerCamel Jan 28 '25

I like to clean as I go, which I’m sure Gordon would NOT be a fan of while trying to keep tight timings.

3

u/TheShadowCat Jan 28 '25

Probably the first morning. The sous chefs would come in banging pots and pans screaming for everyone to wake up, and I would just turn on my side, put a pillow over my head, and keep sleeping.

3

u/imnotcrazyjusttired Trevors only fan? Jan 28 '25

My issue lies in the remembering of orders. I can cook decently well, but my short term memory is so fucked I'd forget the orders immediately

3

u/Sharp-Astronomer7768 Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

id quit before the first service. im a young person with adhd and autism whos never cooked in her life, i cant imagine being stuck in a tight space while being screamed at by 20 different people (and gordon) to do a timed task perfectly, then move around to different stations out of nowhere and NOT have a breakdown.

plus everyone on my team would definitely talk shit about me as well for being a "stupid and lazy kid who should just go home" which would not been good for my mental health either.

(this is the reason i had to stop watching HK but i heard later seasons improve this)

2

u/Emma_Winters Jan 28 '25

I can't cook, so I am probably out on the first service!

2

u/kams32902 Jan 28 '25

I don't cook well, so I'd be out during auditions.

2

u/Life-Application7744 Meghan Ellis for All Stars 2! Jan 28 '25

I’m a pretty vocal person when I need to be, so I think my leadership would get me far. I’m not the most experienced with cooking though, so I’d end up probably getting out at CFYL.

2

u/Next-Variation2004 Jan 28 '25

I wouldn’t even make it on the show. I have okay cooking skills but yk it’s not hard to follow a recipe lol. I’ve never made anything that didn’t have directions plus I cry when I’m yelled at

2

u/Intelligent_End1516 Jan 28 '25

Having been in actual boot camp before the being yelled at and keeping my cool wouldn't be a problem. My cooking however. I would be told to piss off pretty quickly.

2

u/KrassKas Jan 28 '25

I can cook but those outfits look hot and uncomfortable. Then I hate shouting and having to communicate frequently let alone working in a team.

So not long lol

2

u/liamJR24 🫏 Jan 28 '25

I'd probably be the first contestant eliminated before getting a jacket. I'd have to give Gordon my own shirt to burn my picture.

2

u/Daddy_Topps Jan 28 '25

I genuinely feel like I’d be the forgettable 2nd eliminated

2

u/deathbyteacup_x Jan 28 '25

I can’t stand for very long due to AS. I wouldn’t be able to make it through auditions lol.

2

u/Electrical_Gain3864 Jan 28 '25

Depends on other cast and Station. But even with luck i would be a Second quarter Elimination at best.

2

u/Matias8823 Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

I’d put out a mediocre signature dish, last MAYBE a service or two, but I’m not culinarily creative at all so I’d just be trashed the moment things start speeding up. I would be completely fine with the screaming and pressure and whatnot, but I’m not nearly as skilled as 90% of the other people on the show.

My side job is at a restaurant and I can hold my own with the line and plate standards but there’s no way I’d be able to go above a base introduction level of skill. My very very best would be 2nd night, 3rd if I’m REALLY lucky

2

u/ayazd3 Jan 28 '25

ill probably get ejected before the signature dish challenge cause my cooking skills are almost non existant

2

u/Nice-Ad6510 Jan 28 '25

I'd say 3 or 4 services is the point where my volume of mistakes could no longer be ignored.

2

u/spicyslugger Jan 28 '25

I'd accidentally tell Ramsey to go fuck himself. Not from a lack of respect, but because of the Irish in my blood. I tend to retaliate and fight back, usually with my mouth lol

I highly respect Ramsey, as an FYI🤣

2

u/Luzcfir Jan 28 '25

I will get eliminated on cook for your life 😓😭

2

u/JoePW6964 Jan 28 '25

A long time. Those dishes don’t wash themselves!

2

u/lyraxfairy Jan 28 '25

If Ramsey's yelling at me didn't make me cry, and I somehow got put on a station where I could feign being remotely capable, the drama would take me out before everything else.

Plus, so many of the rewards have to do with adrenaline rush or heights and I like calm stuff so I wouldn't even have that keeping me around.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I’d probably last until I hopefully get an unusual elimination, such as: Quitting Getting medically evacuated Getting eliminated despite being on the winning team Getting eliminated without being nominated by Ramsay (even like Melissa or Matthew where I never get to plead my case) Getting eliminated mid-service Post-mortem elimination (similar to Frank, Sterling, and Brad)

Hopefully it’s at least after the first dinner service, because afterwards, that’s when I crack.

2

u/anotherspark Jan 28 '25

I could probably outlast any donkeys there but that's it. And with the way they've been stacking the recent seasons, I'm not so sure about that. I could see a similar run to Ileana's.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I think I could do it. I enjoy cooking but idk about on a line pace

2

u/mishnakid Jan 28 '25

I’m getting all the way to the finale!

2

u/clipsahoy2022 Jan 28 '25

I'm a great communicator and work well with people. I'm also a fast learner so some of those early challenges like cleaning shrimp or scallops I think I could pick up on. I could learn the menu really well even if I couldn't cook it.

I'm also confident in my signature dish ability since you can plan for that.

I think I could make it through a few services ahead of the people who can't cook or communicate, or the people who lie to Ramsay or something like that (like Brendan with the fish).

I'd be exposed relatively early, but not as early as some.

2

u/malone7384 Jan 28 '25

I would be lucky to make it passed the first service. I would get yelled at for not having enough seasoning. (I tend to cook bland, unfortunately)

2

u/shabbyabby27 Jan 28 '25

Me: I wouldn’t even do it. I can’t handle someone yelling at me, and I can’t cook. My wife: I feel like she could win. She’s an AMAZING cook and can handle just about anything. She’s wanted to own a restaurant for years.

2

u/10Robins Jan 28 '25

I think I’d last until I had to cook risotto. I’ve never cooked it in my life. But I do my best work under pressure, and being yelled at just rolls off my back, it’s hard to offend me when I know it’s just because everyone’s stressed. And I’m a team player, I’d rather help my teammates when they need it than have a whole service fall apart.

2

u/KrazieGirl Jan 28 '25

I can’t cook very well, sooooo.. 1st episode ejection possibly? Plus, all the crying that would take place cause I’m sensitive 😭

2

u/Only_Package_4163 Jan 28 '25

I wouldn't survive long; I crack under pressure and get upset easily. I'm not the best cook but i would most likely pull an aaron (s3) and just cry lol

2

u/FallingEnder Jan 28 '25

I’d get on the bus have a panic attack and the drop out probably. Having an anxiety disorder does not mix well with Hell’s Kitchen

2

u/Internal-Bed6646 Jan 28 '25

I have one month of kitchen experience in three years working in a pizza place. I'd think I'd last a couple of episodes.

2

u/Isariamkia Jan 28 '25

I would get thrown out at the signature dish 😂. I can cook with recipes, but I have 0 creativity.

Also, I have a very bad short term memory. I would be one of those who forget the ticket that has been called 1 second ago.

2

u/RoatanHalo Jan 28 '25

Not long at all! Very early on I learned I cook best when I cook alone. The ruckus of a restaurant would do me in. Easier to take orders and deliver.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I'd walk into the competition like I'd already won, then get booted out during Signature Dishes

2

u/thelast3musketeer Jan 29 '25

I’d be generous and say a service and a half. I feel like I’d be a mid boot, cos idk how to cook things like that at all, timing meat, ailois, I’m not skilled at basting

2

u/canderson1989 Jan 29 '25

I'd be out Day 1. I can't deal with the kind of pressure.

2

u/danog111 Jan 29 '25

I have a strategy for how to survive, but with my lack of cooking skills I'm not sure how well I would implement it. Honestly I'm not sure how I would implement it with cooking skills anyways. My main strategy essentially would be to focus hard on what I'm doing, not worry about the rest of the kitchen besides having steady and strong communication. That's the problem with most contestants, they focus too much on the competition and not on how they themselves look.

2

u/Emotional-Golf-6226 Jan 29 '25

Honestly I would end up making a mistake. My guess is top 12-14

2

u/DioSwiftFan Jan 29 '25

I’d be a great leader but poor team player. I say I would get the boot before black jackets.

1

u/stewartd434 Jan 29 '25 edited Jan 29 '25

I have zero leadership skills, so the minute I'm placed on the garnish station where you really have to find your voice, instant game over 💀.

1

u/CastleBravoLi7 Jan 29 '25

I'd do great. I think my only problems are that I've never cooked professionally, I don't like seafood, I can't remember the orders even in episodes I've seen a million times, I'm shy on camera, I couldn't stand living with a bunch of strangers, and I hate getting yelled at

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Chef Ramsay’s idea of gourmet: Beef Wellington, mushroom risotto, and creamy mashed potatoes with a nice glass of Red Wine.

My idea of gourmet: Tuna salad sandwich with a side of BBQ chips, coleslaw and a glass of cherry 7-Up!

Yeah, I’m not going to get to the first interview.

1

u/lakersfan1989 Jan 29 '25

First dinner service all I gotta do is end up on dessert cuz we all getting kicked out before it reaches my station. So probably episode 2 is where I get eliminated.

1

u/AftonsAssCheeks Football lookin' pile o' shit, frisbee lookin' pile o' shit. Jan 29 '25

i’d probably be like raj except a little more socially aware

1

u/JT810 Jan 29 '25

Early boot easily

1

u/Azula_with_Insomnia Jan 29 '25

The applications, lmao.

I certainly love to eat, but I do not have the passion and patience for cooking and definitely not the creativity to become a professional at it. I can fry and boil simple stuff, and grilling is my only true culinary skill but this is because I was a pyromaniac as a child and a budding arsonist, so my mother thought I could "contain" this interest from becoming dangerous by channeling it to something productive like grilling. I only started watching Hell's Kitchen because I loved Gordon's Kitchen Nightmares and Hotel Hell.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

I’d honestly just be a plant and popularize with years of memes to come aka I can’t cook

1

u/ChefChrisLee312 Jan 29 '25

If you worked at a restaurant that has Michelin Stars you should be able to last to the top 5. I was lucky enough to work at Alinea, it is no joke working there, the amount of pressure and work there has to be completed is insane!

1

u/wildshroomies Jan 29 '25

gone first night

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Kavon long.

1

u/Stawberrypie22 Jan 29 '25

Mentally 6 episodes . But cooking wise . I’ll be eliminated within episode 2

1

u/StupidSexyGiroud_ Jan 30 '25

I used to be a pizza chef so I'd hope my skills are still sharp enough I can get by for a few services.

But I'd probably fuck up bad at some point and melt when Ramsay chews my ass

1

u/Careless_Peach2791 Jan 30 '25

I’m severely allergic to shellfish so maybe 20 minutes into first dinner service

1

u/Alocalskinwalker420 Jan 30 '25

Depends on how incompetent the competition is, if I could probably last longer than someone like Raj.

1

u/goteachyourself Jan 31 '25

I'm probably a forgettable first-third boot. I try, I don't do anything too stupid, but I'm constantly a little behind the ball due to not having restaurant experience. Gordon kicks me out at elimination, shakes my hand and tells me to keep cooking, then shit-talks me in the goodbye message.

1

u/NoMoreLyyfe Feb 01 '25

I feel I would survive until the Hot App station and then would bomb hard enough to be sent home. So at minimum Week 2 or 3, at best, week 5 or 6.

1

u/Lucky-Individual2508 Feb 02 '25

I’m not that good of a cook, but I can handle pressure well, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be the first boot.
