In-Show This part in season 12, episode 16 was too dramatic for no reason.

Hear me out... (hardcore defending from the defender herself)

I rewatched season 12 again and I really do think that Paul was not choking, he did have something caught in his throat. However, the dramatic effects made it too much than what it really was, and they REALLY didn't have to show him in the restroom spitting it out. Too much.

I believe that they had steak for lunch, and sometimes even a small bite of steak can get in your throat if you're not careful or if you eat too fast.

I know there are some non-fans out there and that this is karma for him "backstabbing" Jennifer, but you all can't tell me this wasn't a little too much.

People are panicked if actually choking. They do not casually walk away from people and go into the bathroom alone.

Actually, it historically been not uncommon for people to die alone in the bathroom because somebody choking (usually it's men) feels embarrassed and try to leave the area for some privacy while they deal with it.

But yes. This dude was definitely hamming it up for the show. 100%

Most chefs know about choking and all should know the Heimlich maneuver. This was Hell's Kitchen drama not done well.

Probably one of the reasons I don't trust anyone's judgement in this challenge and it was rigged for Joy.

Paul's actually more humble outside of Hell's Kitchen in South Florida than he was in Hell's Kitchen. He acted that way because he knew he was good and he wanted to win. Winning Hell's Kitchen was such a big highlight in his culinary career that the local press talks about it whenever he's mentioned.
