Chef(s) Questionable Chefs

Who are some chefs that were in the show that made you question their participation?

One example for me is Josie S20, who was competing to work at Gordon Ramsay’s Steak but is a vegan. I have no issues with vegans but it just seemed like a terrible fit. Can’t taste the food that is going out so it kinda defeats the whole position and purpose, no?

Others would be: Mike S12 Matt S20 Lacey S5

These are my opinion of “Why are they here?”

Gina, the puppet lady from Season 11. I wonder if she thought Hell's Kitchen was a social bonding experience for older women. And then she immediately dipped before the second challenge started.

I'm convinced she had a friend in production. It's literally the only thing that made any sense to me.

Yeah I really don't get why she was there. I think at some point people thought she would really stir up drama and be weird (which she was) but she somehow had the self awareness to realize she was utterly out of her depth and said "um... no". She seems like a gross miscalculation on the part of the producers.

She technically was undefeated in challenges and services

Tiffany and Robyn, Season 10, Tiffany had NO passion she did NOT care that her Potato dish was RAW at all during the red menu dinner service plus she did NOT care that the kid's Pizza was burnt saying who cares! Robyn COULDN'T cook on both seasons her chef skills declined on season 17 so idk why she thought she had a chance to be Gordon Ramsay's chef and why they both tried out for Hell's Kitchen.

Carrie, Sugar in the Mash Potatoes, Everything she showed on the show makes me question why did she even go on the show? The serving Wolfgang Puck a RAW Pizza Dough and Gaslighting Gordon Ramsay about the burnt Seabass saying she DIDN'T see it was the Cherry on top!

Lacey. How are you competing to be a head chef and don’t know how to cook meat nor have the creativity to come up with your own dish and need someone else to give you an idea?

Lacey was one where... she fulfilled the producers dreams of being utterly ridiculous. There was no _way_ she was going to win, and she was just incompetent in all sorts of entertaining ways. She was easy to dislike, whined like a 5 year old who dropped their ice cream cone, and could not cook to save her life.

"I can't cook meat, chef! 😭"

I don’t even know where people come from with the “well she was good for that one but” yeah she found her voice but I figured that was less to do with any talent and more to do with wanting to stick it to the red team. And I’m fairly sure every she sent up to the pass got rejected

u/Jack_WhiteYT FINE DINING!? A FINE F**KING MESS!!! 1d ago

Raj. How the hell does a 49-year-old with the most experience act like that? XD

Tavon. I’m thinking he was lying about being an executive chef to look cool on TV.

Lazy Lacey. She can’t cook meat.

Melissa Don[k]ey. An executive chef that ruined 2 dinner services by overcooking.

Miss Manners. Nuff said.

Matthew season 20 for sure.

He wasn’t even a professional chef. He did cooking videos on YouTube. He wasn’t even around enough to say, “Okay, he brings the drama,” or, “He makes good TV.” So it just made me wonder why he thought he’d be a good fit, and why he was cast.

Didn't he say he was a hand model? Where did the food part come in? Boy used a thermometer during service and apparently left it in the kitchen because how the hell did Gordon end up giving it back to him during eliminations.

And still send it up raw.

ah ok true that although he was motioning something with his hand and kind said ya when Gordon asked him but fair enough. Thanks.

Iirc Josie was approached by a member of casting for the show, and the prize restaurant isn't announced until they're actually there. That said, it's well known that none of the prize restaurants have ever been vegan and Gordon's signature recipes all use animal products in some way, so yeah I'm still baffled at why she agreed anyway. Only explanation I can think of is that she felt the exposure would be a good resume boost.

Nicole is another one where I have no clue why she was here. She signed up to be on a show where chefs get berated every other sentence, then immediately gets angry and gives up the second she gets any criticism. She seriously seemed like she didn't even want to be there

Nicole S12 right? If so, yeah, I agree there. She is another one of the “why are you here?” chefs for me.

I wasn’t aware that the prize isn’t said until after the fact. Nice but of trivia that I wasn’t aware of.

Nicole literally had no passion or drive, sense of urgency, etc during the service. I can see why Joy was upset with the attitude Simone as well cause ain't no way you making it far like that.

Joseph Season 6 - Bye Felicia!!
Nicole Season 12 - oh F me!!
Joy Season 12 - * i had to fall to lose it all, effin muppet*
Frank season 15 - You're not a winner........you're not a winner!!
Simone season 12 - Lights on, nobody home.

Frank is a prime example of how to not represent the US military. Leaders lead and take responsibility and if a subordinate messes up, takes responsibility for said subordinate. He did none of that.

Absolutely. I would have thought he understood the brigade system and its components well since it actually stemmed from Escoffier's time in the military. Thankfully he got demoted from his position for his run on the show especially after his exit interview.

I hate to be pedantic but Frank wasn't demoted. He was reassigned to a garbage post and given a shitty re-enlistment code.

Gotcha. Appreciate it.

I think in general, earlier seasons had more random chefs. Some were waiters, managers, etc. The later seasons were really more people who work in the kitchen.

Which made sense, a good bit truly wanted to be a head chef and work under Ramsay. But even then there were some questionable ones even up to S20 or whichever the Young Guns season was.

Nicole in Season 12 looked like she meant to apply for Real Housewives of New Jersey and accidentally walked into the set of Hell’s Kitchen

Jen, season 4 but when she returned.

Did she actually come back to try again or promote her chefs jackets and hats? T asked a valid question.

To be fair Jen had lost almost everything in a business deal gone south not long before filming. She was not in a good frame of mind and admittedly after the show she shouldn't have come back. The timing was definitely unfortunate for her.

Wasn’t aware of this. That really sucks but doesn’t excuse her actions. Was this after original season or returning season?
