The Netherlands is no longer measuring wastewater for COVID in many areas of the country. I expected to see this a while ago (it lasted longer than I expected) but it's still a little disappointing to see it for real.

Although the numbers have been suspiciously low for a while now; we haven't had a real wave this year yet. Which is a good thing, of course, but it makes you wonder how accurate these numbers really are/were.

Now the only indicators we have are the news, and community chat threads complaining about "everyone I know is sick," and the threads are ironically probably more accurate and up to date than the news. So buckle up, I guess.

Following 'Children in the U.S. Are Dying at a Higher Rate than Kids in Similar Countries' from last month, now we have its bigger brother:

American Millennials Are Dying at an Alarming Rate

Maybe there's one for every age group? Of course these are trends that predated the pandemic but what your average person doesn't realize is that a lot of the 'deaths of despair' factors are definitely exacerbated by COVID.

Alongside COVID-19 deaths were major increases in deaths from drug overdose, transportation, alcohol, homicide, circulatory disease, suicide, and other causes ...
...
But the fact that death rates have remained high across so many kinds of deaths, from car collisions to fatalities from circulatory diseases and diabetes, hints at more encompassing and systemic problems.

The common notion is that COVID has flu-like symptoms, gives you brain fog, and kills your smell and taste. But what's less spoken of are the personality changes, lower inhibition, changes in serotonin and dopamine, etc.

It's sad how articles like this don't touch on the above at all, and this one is even vehemently trying to deny that COVID is a factor.
It's not rocket science that millions of people who have long COVID have lower quality of life and are more likely to seek a permanent way out, for example.

Just a reminder that we're in a big wave again, so it's wise to redouble your safety efforts. Lots of people saying how "their entire family was out for a week" or "most of my class/workplace has it" and similar. It seems fierce.

Crazy how some are complaining about their issues that sound severely unpleasant and at the same time are ragging on vaccines, masks, staying home when sick, and some are also spreading misinfo/disinfo at the same time.
Now that's efficiency.
