Spoilers Confusion about the endgame. Spoiler
So, i made it to khiva for the first time and was ready and exited to defend, but (to my knowladge) i could not physically fuel fast enough to get anything out of khiva, and got destroyed by the nukes. did i do something wrong? Im immensely upset that i didnt even get a chance.

You need to send out strike groups immediately to the cities in missile range. It's usually worth trying to clear cities surrounding khiva before you actually capture it.

This. Clear up this part of the map and position ELINT around possible entry points before entering Khiva.

yeah absolutely. And honestly breaking up strike groups around a city to eat incoming missiles helps too. Once nukes are in play, you need to be very careful about how/when your units are grouped up. If you had kept a ship or two (ideally with AA capabilities) on the perimeter of Khiva, you might have been able to save khiva and your fleet by sacrificing those ships. Loading up on sprints throughout your run will make end game much easier, and a decent size ship with sprints can usually tank a couple nukes before getting killed if you shoot them down quick enough. This is obviously preferable to a whole strike group needing significant repairs.
I don't want to give spoilers because it sounds like you didn't get any ships back out of khiva, but it is very much worth your time to spread out ASAP. Even if it's just a mockingbird or something.

Fuel up beforehand, take only part of your group.

Yeah, i only brought enough to get to khiva, assuming the game would end there.

Also a bit of secret tactic from me - if they say only A-100N can intercept a ballistic missile, doesn't mean default A-100 can't do it. It can (with something lower probability of course)
And of course you can sacrifice some of ships to damage if not destroy a strike group. Ships are free, you can get a Lightning or a Skylark to loot all the nearby cities to get you free cannon fodder

You can take of part of your fleet if you have a massive group awaiting fuel (not that everything you have needs to be there) You also get told how to intercept incoming...
