I have completed all the dmv requirements (transcript, record request, intent to auction, and waited the 21 days) now im just wondering what to do with these papers. I took them to the DMV and they gave me a page basically saying mail the paperwork into the DMV Headquarter here in Richmond. The paper doesnt tell me what i need to include.

My question is:

If im looking to sell it at auction
1. Do i still need to mail it in? or is the vsa40 and reciepts good enough to take directly to the auction house.

If im looking to title it in my name
1. What do i mail to the DMV other than my paperwork and vsa40 and 17a(for titling a car)

Im clueless to this process and im just trying to figure out how to either get the title in my name, or how to send it to auction properly. Thanks.

What’s going on everyone I have an interview soon with a towing company for a heavy wrecker driver. I had my cdl for almost 4 years I’m 22 with 4 years experience hauling dump trailers and landoll moving equipment. My schedule is pretty open don’t mind working nights etc. I have a little experience towing but not a whole lot , would asking for 30 an hour with no experience heavy towing extreme? If so what can I say to the owner to get compensated well for this dangerous job?

Background on me, im 44, kids are almost grown and ready to do their own thing, single and not looking to change that lol, had my cdl for 14 years now, worked in the gas and oil industry as a frac hand and sand hauler up until 2019, ran otr and everything in between, hauled every type of trailer out there including os/od shit, and am just looking for a change. I also went to school for diesel and high po automotive and my mechanical background and aptitude is above average, although im probably 10 years behind tech as far as formal training

Job is either 7p-7a m-f, every 5th week on call on weekends, or w-sun 9a-6p, $31 an hr to start. Does this seem like a good starting point and schedule? Company is very well established in major metro area, and sounds like the majority of their work is a mix of majority law enforcement with longterm regular customers making up most of the rest, although im sure they do plenty of call in work as well.

School me up on the good, bad, and ugly parts of this job. Obviously i doubt im going straight in to run a rotator, but thats my goal.

We recently picked up a 32ft gooseneck (we typically use a 32ft enclosed v-nose cargo trailer but just changed to a gooseneck). In the first couple of runs, we’ve already had two blowouts, which makes me think we’re loading wrong.

I’ve heard conflicting advice—some say load heavy equipment directly over the axles, others say load the heaviest items up front. We travel to festivals and haul a lot of bulky commercial gear: stocked freezers, fridges, grills, fryers, tents, etc. trips are anywhere from 3hrs-20hrs away.

What’s the general consensus for properly balancing a gooseneck load to avoid blowouts and make the ride safer?

Here I am, broken down on one of the busiest interstates (Norfolk - I-64 right before Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel) with I am certain a blown head gasket, and I contacted AAA at 4:51 pm. It’s now 7:30pm and still no tow. If I pay for a service, I’d expect something in return when needed.

I’m in NC, planning to tow regular vehicles and I understand that you don’t need a CDL if you’re under 26,001 lbs. That being said, I’m trying to find where or who to talk to about NCDOT permits, towing licenses, etc. anything else we need to legally be “for hire”. When I try to search online most sources just say I need a CDL. I can’t find anything about permits on DOT website, does anyone have contacts or departments I can find out more info?? Thanks

Not the owner, the driver sent to tow it. Yesterday, I was sent to pick up a ‘26 ram the customer bought an hour earlier. They got it home and it wouldn’t shut off.

When I got in, it looked like the usual can’t find park fault, along with every other warning lamp. I touched the brake the idle kicked up to 1500 and the gear selector changed to R. I let go of the brake and it didn’t move, still in park. Elec parking brake is on, won’t come off.

It has the 2 battery system for the auto/start, so I wasn’t going to play with which battery to unplug. I pulled the fuel pump relays and it coughed out. I need to put skates under the rears, it’s new truck and he had a nice driveway and drag it on.

At dealership, it still would not recognize park and shut down. Asked sale man if I needed to pull batteries and he said F-it, leave it, they’ll deal with it on Monday. Manually locked the doors and walked away.

Anything I could have done differently? No sense in pulling the neutral cassette since the parking brake is engaged. Also, that’s BS for under 100 miles, poor guy. He was having regrets as I pulled it on the bed. Unfortunately we didn’t have any of our wreckers available at the moment and I was in the area with my FB at the time.

I have a CDL, but never used it (that's a different story). Would that help at all for getting hired as a trainee? I know it doesn't pay well starting out, I'm seeing jobs around me for about $20/hr, if that. But is this something that can be made into a decent career, or do you really have to run your own business to go anywhere?

I have been overseas for a while and my car has been sitting on a friends property for a long time. It is likely dead and won't be able to start.

I would love to have it towed from where it is upsate NY to Philadelphia where I can get my mechanic to work on it.

It is a 183 mile drive.. can I purchase AAA Plus and they will cover it? Or do I have to be broken down on the side of the road?

How long do I have to have AAA Plus before I can use a long tow?

Do I have to be with the vehicle myself or have my friend who lives there meet them for me?

Any advice on the most affordable way to do this would be appreciated.

I don't want to get it fixed in upstate NY because if it is too expensive to fix I will just get rid of the car. It's very old and would be best to put the money towards a new one.

Hey everyone! I have been trying for about 2 weeks now to get commercial auto and general liability so that I can apply to be a provider with auto clubs like agero, geico etc.. I’ve tried all the big name companies and had a couple local brokers try to apply within their carrier list and just been getting the same answer which is fuck no 😐

Is there a reason it’s this hard to get CAL and CGL for a roadside assistance business??

I do plan on purchasing tow trucks in the next 5-8 months but I wanted to get this up and running in the mean time to use the income towards trucks.

I am in the heavy equipment industry and earn $21 an hour average of 45-55 hours a week. I was thinking about changing careers into towing since It has caught my attention for quite a while now. They offer 20% commission instead of hourly pay. I wanted to ask and see how much would you guys average weekly or by weekly net pay? Im in North Carolina for financial context as well! Any comments would definitely help!

Just ran into a situation yesterday, battery died late night in the Mission district. My local service shout out to herotowingjumpstart showed up within 20 mins, jump starting my car and offering fuel delivery when they realized I had only the essentials on me. Reminded me how important fast help is after hours. Anyone else have similar stories or recommendations?

Hey any heavy drivers here that can help me with tools to buy. Got part time driving heavies and we have to buy our own tools. Nothing like forks or chains, more like sockets and impacts. I got all the basics pry bars, impacts, wrenches etc. but, I need help on the specialty tools. Specifically on the driveline aspect. What sockets do you guys buy to remove driveshafts? I bought the Sunex swivel driveline sockets in Metric and SAE but, I’m worried the universal head won’t fit on some tighter spaced driveshafts. Do I just use a wrench and extender to get tight head bolts? Any help is appreciated. Pic for attention.

I had tow truck driver patch tire. He works for a well know company in the aera and I only know him by his first name. I tried to look him up on Facebook but couldent ding anything. I have triple a so I didn’t pay anything. I had a no cash on me and nethier did my dad. My dog got loose and he helped me my find my dog. I’m very thankful for that. I was thinking of dropping off a tip in a Thankyou card at the business, but my dad said he would probably not get it as other coworkers would take it. (In his previous experience of working for company’s like this) (he has not worked for this company tho) I’m asking from the perspective of other tow truck drivers what the best way I could tip and make sure he gets it or recognize him after the fact?

Somewhat new to the industry, starting a new job next week at a company where they have you stage at various places around cities vs leaving from the yard.

First place I worked was primarily equipment hauling and not really any recovery, one county with 4 smaller cities/towns that we went around to, it so almost always at the yard when not dispatched. This new place responds to 6 or 7 interconnected cities across two counties in a metroplex setting and it's almost all police rotation work.

What are some do's and dont's for encountering downtime while sitting around in a parking lot?

I know how to keep busy at the yard when there's a little bit of down time with finding equipment/cars to move around, picking up trash, cleaning etc. but never really staged before.

Any one able to estimate the weight of the wrecker body on this 2008 3500? I’m guessing the body is also 2008. No access to truck or door labels so maybe someone has experience with these bodies so could hazard a guess. I can only attach one pic?
