Question Help deciphering FIMS

I used to think I had a good grasp on this stuff. I've always been able to keep up on my FIMS, ensuring I had enough for steady and malleable growth, keeping production time frames down, building generational wealth and keeping up with the Jones' (scientifically, that is), across a variety of difficulties.

In my current play through I went through Harappans, Carthaginians, Rapa Nui, Maasai, and am currently Italian.

I'm struggling to manage my city sizes and my production costs are growing out of control.

I replaced my home continent cities with new settled ones to catch up on all the infrastructure at a discount (in time and resources).

But a new city I built using a Settler produces an arquebusier in 14 turns/2900 gold and a district in 7 turns/1400 gold with only 82 Production.

My capital city produces that same arquebusier in 5 turns/2900 gold, but a district in 9 turns/5100-5800 gold with 266 Production. This is common for the cities in my primary continent.

The new city is on another continent and will grow fast enough to maintain my presence in that region despite an ongoing war, but the stagnation back home is so bad I'm on a path to lose ground in this war there.

What might I need to look at, what might be missing?

Question Anti-Air units mechanics

Hi, I'm curious how the Anti-Aircraft Gun works in the game since I havent' yet reached the contemprary age and I like slow campaigns. Will AA units only fire at aircrafts that target their hex? Or will they fire even if the enemy aircrafts attacks an hex within their Range? What happens if there' a air unit Patrolling within their Range?

Bug Nomad units food consumption bug

The notes for the Dante update clearly state that all units except nomads and mounted nomads now have a food consumption upkeep once deployed, problem is I'm suddenly losing 200 food on all my cities despite only having 3 non-nomad units, so what do I do about this?

Its only the mid-classical era and my capital produces 104 food max, im losing 200% of my food production each turn to this bug

Question Artimisia Is Driving Me Crazy

I am new (like yesterday) to the game. Artimisia repeatedly keeps stealing population from my main city. Its hamstringing everything. My main city now has a population of 0. How do I stop this. I have tried everything, but starting a war with nobody to build an army with looks like a big fail.

All help appreciated.

Discussion Tips for Nation difficulty.

I play console edition and can landslide in easier difficulties but now I've started attempting Nation difficulty and am losing every time.

I either lag behind in Eras, looking to gather some fame which one AI has somehow snowballed and is 3-5k ahead in and end up losing wars to their superior units and technology.

Or I play quick and jump to the next era to give myself a technology advantage or more accurately just keep up with the AI and can't keep up in fame or gold production and get wiped out.

Any advice for keeping up?

Question Latest update broke mods (rollback didn't work)

All the monos mods, like skip to x-era, stop at y-era, FIMS rework, etc, are all broken with the current version of the game. Rollback version did not help. Anyone got thoughts or suggestions? Or are we just stuck waiting to see if the mods themselves will eventually be updated?

No way to get earlier builds of the game?

Question Should I ever build walls?

After learning the mechanism of how city walls work (not boosting combat strength of my defenders), I’m starting to feel that walls are extremely useless. Does anyone actually build walls, or know scenarios where it actually becomes useful?

Question A question before i buy Humankind!

Hello everyone. I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy Humankind, but I want to ask something before I make up my mind. I'm a huge fan of Amplitude games and I have enjoyed both Endless Legend and Endless Space. I find the novelties they tried in this game really interesting, but I want to know if there are any serious problems with the mechanics in this game. From reviews I've read, a lot of people pointed out the broken pollution and war score mechanics. What is the state of the game right now? Have they been fixed in some way? Also, is there anything else that keeps you from enjoying this game?

Update: I decided to buy it yesterday! I bought the base game with the three cultures DLC for more variety. I appreciate everyone's answers, which helped me make my decision. I can't wait to start my first game!

Question Is it possible to take enemy territory attached to a city without conquering the city?

I’m currently at my city cap, so I don’t really want another city. Is it possible to still get a territory from an enemy which is already attached to one of their cities?

Question Progressing through Eras or hanging back a bit

Hi all, new player here, I've seen around that sometimes people suggest not progressing through the Eras right away because it's sometimes better to stay in the previous one for a bit.

When is this valid? When and why should I wait before progressing toward the next Era?

Question Game won't start new game with custom map

UPDATE: SOLVED. I ran the error code through chatgpt, which identified the likely culprit as rivers running through invalid tiles. A quick review of my rivers found 3 that were running through lake tiles instead of ending at the lake and starting again on the other side. Editing those rivers and validating the map again fixed it!

ORIGINAL POST:

Map is validated, and I confirmed it has some of the same characteristics as other custom maps I know work (game boundary territory is the same, etc, stuff like that).

Getting this error trying to start a new game with the custom map:

"The operation was canceled.

at Amplitude.Mercury.Game.Game+<DoStart>d__4.MoveNext () [0x00157] in <163722319d2a4512a1eeb52d8fa662b4>:0

at Amplitude.Coroutine.Run () [0x00019] in <d32a6dfa9d5f4f519a23b1a2c3449653>:0 "

I had this issue before with an old save, ended up doing all the things and eventually I think I just started a new game. But that was a couple years ago, I don't remember everything I tried.

So far I've:
-disabled mod tools in steam properties (this did nothing)

-disabled all mods (this did nothing)

-validated game data (this did nothing)

-loaded other saves (this works)

-started a new game with game generated maps (this works)

-started a new game with *other* custom maps (this works)

I'm at a loss; any thoughts?

Discussion Is the AI smarter when using VIP+Superpack compared to triple alliance?

Dont know if its just me. But in my recent games I noticed that the expert AIs are way smarter and are more aggresive when using VIP+SP compared to VIP alone or VIP+SP+ENC. Could also just be bad luck, but the AI personas were kept consistend. Anyone got some Insight on that?

Question Is there a way to assign ships(Or my army) to patrol and protect my trade routes?

I’m getting really frustrated because my trade routes keep getting disturbed, and I keep losing access to key resources. It feels like the only way to fix this is by sending ships, but I’m not sure how to properly do it or who exactly I should be targeting pirates, rival countries, or both.

Is there any way to assign ships to patrol the routes I’m actively trading through so they stay protected? Or do I need to manually send them against whoever is disrupting my trade? Any advice would be appreciated because losing these resources is seriously hurting my economy.

This kind of nonsense has been driving me crazy, can I get some insight? What tile issues here can anyone see that I'm messing up?

From what I can tell, ALL of the tiles in "Capture6" can be reached by their adjacent tiles without embarking or leaving the territory.

I have like 10 issues like this, sometimes they're obvious, but most of them are not to me.

Question Is there anything I can do with a large food excess?

At a certain food income there seems to be no point in advancing that particular resource since cities can only gain one population at a time no matter what, is there anything else food does, or is it just wasted? Would be cool if it could convert into money or something at least.

Question How to Control Population

TL;DR: How do I control my cities exceeding their population caps after researching Encyclopedia?

For those who want more context, I picked the game back up because I've owned it since release and could never really get into the game. I have a save that I'm quite fond of right now (though I am playing on the easiest difficulty, beginner AI, hamlet mode) and I just researched Encyclopedia. Before that, I kept my population below or around its cap by buying out with population. The most obvious conclusion that I came to was that I would just have to keep mass producing units in order to keep my population in control, though that does come at an extremely high Money upkeep cost. My question is, how do I control late-game population with spending thousands of Money on unit upkeep?

Question How does aerial stealth work?

I fully understand regular stealth, but I have never used the American or Turk emblematic unit, so I have no idea what advantage these units have over their regular version.

Bug Auto combat improvement

I've been encountering the same issue in my last game. My neighbour, with whom I battle a lot, has a fleet that consists purely on melee vessels. The problem? Somehow this vessels make the auto-combat button unusable since the AI finds the way to bring them to land combat and thus making every single battle an auto loose. I've played several of these battles, won all of them extremely easy and even standed right next to the enemy ships (still on a land tile ofc) and they were unable to attack my units (just like its supposed to be) so I don't understand how the auto-combat mode is able to resolve a loss in such scenario. My troops would have to embarc to fight these vessels but why would they do so if the flag is not on a water tile?

Is this a bug?
