French person here. Why haven't I seen that in the news? Why do I have to mindle with the foreigners on reddit to learn about my own country? All they showed us were the fighting scenes and the reporter who got hurt. This picture is strong, it shows that we are capable of talking. This man is fucking brave. Seeing the fire behind them, the fight had probably already started when the picture was taken. The cops could have tried to subbdue him like they were doing to all the bad guys, but he is talking to them anyway. Why does the news only talk about the minority of stupid youngsters who thought it would be fun to break stuff during the previously calm protestation which led to the 'war' that happened? This picture shows that not every parisian is stupid enough to wreck havoc. So why haven't I seen it?
More importantly, police also isn’t beating his ass, at least there. Don’t lose your mind...maybe send the picture to a news station, post it on french social media channels etc. to spread the correct message. Not everyone is insane, violent or corrupt - don’t forget that.
I can’t tell you how much more social medias tell you about protests than the news, if your news is anything like Americans, they have a rating to keep and they arnt going to sacrifice that for anybody or anything
C'est pas les émeutes que je n'ai pas vu. C'est cette photo et le fait que tous les francais ne sont pas des bêtes sauvages comme on peut le pensser en voyant comment les infos couvrent ce qu'il s'est passé...
This isn't rare, they do the same thing in the states. Talking doesn't sell papers, get clicks or page views. Why you would believe that all of a sudden all parisiens are wild animals is a big question mark from me.
I know all parisians are normal people, not wild animals; of course I don't see them as such... but it's basically what the news tells/shows us when one of our strikes goes haywire. It's not always Paris, sometimes it's other cities, but I hate that this is how they portray it when in reallity it's more complicated. Making clicks and views shouldn't be their priority. It should be truth and information. This is why I don't really like journalists. But I shouldn't be surprised. Money rules all, heh? We should live by respect and letting people live their lives (and that includes policemen and firemen who are just doing their job to protect the people, so why are you stupid kid throwing rocks at them? Damn it.)
Sorry, I'm not trying to give you a lesson or be mean in any way. I'm ranting my frustration, at this point :')
Police aren't always just doing their job; although it may be different in Paris I very much doubt it. I don't know that it's right to throw rocks, but I understand the anger and the need to express it.
