Bonus points if anyone knows what company owns this truck. It passed me earlier and I got this screenshot

u/SenseWinter 3d ago edited 3d ago

That's a very distinct paintjob. Maybe try posting in the LA subreddit??

I tried some Google fu and thought I found the exact paint job. They even have the thin blue horizontal line. Of course, they're in Australia lol.

https://share.google/KjbVx5DWvkI1JEbJ2 There is also a Titan America, but their trucks seem to be all white.

This really sucks tho, good luck!

23

u/Leroooy_Jenkiiiins 2d ago

I found the paint job too! Too bad it's in Hawaii :/

https://www.hcdhawaii.com/ Perfect match for OP's truck is near the bottom of the page, a photo of two trucks- I'm looking at the far truck there.

I'm from the other side of the country, but it looks like it could be either https://desertrm.com or maybe https://rushreadymix.com. Judging by the oval shape of the potato logo on the truck's door.

With that much damage to so many people's cars, I'd reach out to the DOT and see if they can identify the truck from traffic cams.

Edit: words are hard, m'kay?

446

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

That’s a great start! I’ll reach out to both just to see. I called California Highway Patrol today and they said they had a report of gravel on the road at that exit but when I asked about traffic cameras they made it sound like they didn’t have that for some reason. I am certain 5-10 other cars at least need new windshields.

347

u/audioeptesicus 3d ago

I'm sure both companies will deny such things, unfortunately.

I'd go to the DOT directly and not the police to see about footage. I'm sure the truck passed a cam and/or license plate reader at some point on that stretch of highway. Finger's crossed!

219

u/PG908 3d ago

Straight to DOT yep, they know those cement trucks better than the cops.

Be sure to send everything to the illicit discharge people to.

132

u/KrispyCuckak 3d ago

Traffic cameras are only to be used against the public, never to help the public.

They'd have a perfect plate number ready to go if you were wanted for driving on an expired license or something, but if you ask for help tracking down another vehicle in a hit-and-run or a concrete-and-run they'd tell you nothing can be done.

36

u/audioeptesicus 3d ago

That's not always the case, so don't state it as fact. It doesn't hurt for OP to go to the DOT. If they can't help them, then nothing lost. If they can, then it's certainly worth the effort.

A lot of traffic cams are for public use though too where the local news stations can get feeds of them as well as websites to stream the cams for looking at traffic.

Especially since the truck caused damage to the road itself, the DOT would also be far more willing to assist.

5

u/Smashogre591 2d ago

We pay for the high quality footage too… it’s out there.

3

u/Macgyver452 2d ago

Expired tabs? You’re Will Smith in Enemy of the State. Hit and run? The cameras weren’t working that day.

5

u/Spotikiss 2d ago

Thats what lawyers can for they can get the recordings if they needed them for the case.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/quandjereveauxloups 2d ago

And this is the time that assholes who will get in front of them and make them stop would probably get upvoted.

Cause I would have been one of those assholes. That shit could easily kill a motorcyclist.

11

u/dacraftjr 3d ago

You ever seen a license plate on a cement truck? Me either. They’re either missing altogether or so covered in cement as to be unreadable. Lots of states don’t even require they be displayed on a truck this big.

14

u/audioeptesicus 3d ago

Good thing there's DOT numbers and other potentially identifiable information.

71

u/arianrhodd 3d ago

Was this today?! Reach out to KTLA or ABC7 and I bet they'd jump on it.

51

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

Tuesday. Let me try that!

22

u/arianrhodd 3d ago

Thanks for recording! The damage! And, that could have been so mush worse!

49

u/the_rare_bear 3d ago

If you haven’t, post it on local facebook groups too. There’s a lot more people there that can help with the search and if they are local to the area, it’ll probably go way faster.

48

u/Horror_Shelter4947 3d ago

Dot definitely wants to see this and talk to the driver and the company owner how do I know I’m cdl and have gotten fucked for less

17

u/audioeptesicus 3d ago

Also, maybe post it to r/RBI!

10

u/Garydrgn 3d ago

For future reference, if possible, look for the DOT numbers on the side of the truck cab, typically on the doors. Those numbers are unique to the company and anyone can look the company up online with those numbers. And I genuinely hope your traffic cam search works. I don't know about California, but where I live the traffic cams don't record, they just offer live views.

u/SenseWinter 3d ago

Both those companies have all white trucks.

2

u/audioeptesicus 3d ago

I know. I was looking at the color scheme too, and couldn't find anything. Color scheme seemed more like CalPortland, but the logo is very different.

It's also possible it's an old truck in the fleet that's still truckin'.

36

u/welguisz 3d ago

California contractor license board

I would assume the company will be licensed and the list is large for Los Angeles. Just select C-8 Concrete and maybe call a few. They will let you know who it might be.

u/gatorbeetle 3d ago

Looks like Carlito's Ready Mix out of Bloomington California, their trucks use that same white over blue paint job

72

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

Oh wow that actually might definitely be it

68

u/triciann 3d ago

It seems to be a very standard paint scheme for cement trucks and the companies just put their logo on the door. The logo on the door of theirs doesn’t match the oval shaped on the one you’re looking for. I think r/RBI would be able to help you more.

44

u/_dictatorish_ 3d ago

Definitely got to be careful of a "we did it reddit" moment here

2

u/TheDragonzord 2d ago

Breaking news tomorrow, cement truck driver found dead in Pennsylvania.

23

u/cheapdrinks 3d ago

If you search one of the high quality images of their blue trucks from their instagram on Google Lens you'll unfortunately find that there are a million different concrete companies that all use that exact same paint job.

California on Tuesday, August 26. This was in Los Angeles near the Chatsworth exit. This was from the dash cam of my car!

629

u/DookieShoez 3d ago

Is your dash cam from the ‘80s? Lol

517

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

It is heavily zoomed in because it’s hard to tell what happens otherwise

138

u/Bendyboi666 3d ago

saving this in case i ever need to replicate an 80s video camera filter

35

u/Dinodietonight 2d ago

Step 1: take 1080p video

Step 2: lower resolution to 480p

Step 3: add slight (like, barely noticeable) static noise to simulate sensor noise

Step 4: export with a high bitrate

22

u/TheDeamonKing 3d ago

That’s nuts what was the after msth

148

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

My windshield is cracked in multiple places, and the entire front of my car is chipped like crazy. I can’t imagine what the closer cars look like. Still trying to figure out what cement company this was.

51

u/National-Jackfruit32 3d ago

I hope you wash the underside of the vehicle or your problems are about to get much worse

34

u/ChickenXing 3d ago

r/LosAngeles may help you get the answer if you post this video there

43

u/internetenjoyer69420 3d ago

They'll do that dumb thing and be like "the sticker says STAY BACK 200 FT NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE" and then they'll call in a favor to some politician and get a freebie.

Cement companies are run recklessly and ruthlessly with no shame. They think they have way more power than they do just because they play a role in new construction.

45

u/KrispyCuckak 3d ago

Those signs mean jack shit, legally.

3

u/Leanintree 2d ago

Best case of MARKETING that I ever saw though. As a one time truck driver that DID get a fat ticket when I didn't tarp my gravel load (and put a rock in a State Patrol cruiser windshield), those stickers are a GODSEND for construction companies. Because people believe what they read, no matter how false. Calls to company for busted windshields and other damages dropped 95+% when one of my prior employers added them to their fleet. At a cost of $2/truck. BIG win for the companies.

20

u/strangelove4564 3d ago

I remember last week there was a post about a rock quarry company in Utah where the article said they had donated 3 million in bribes campaign contributions in a single election cycle... you can only imagine how deep the rabbit hole goes.

16

u/iampierremonteux 3d ago

I’d love to have legislation that states that if a company requests distance, they also aren’t allowed to merge in without that distance. I’ve gotten peppered with rocks while slamming on my brakes to not hit a vehicle warning to stay back 200 feet because the idiot driver cut me off.

26

u/MrT735 3d ago

If they request a distance, they should have multiple escort vehicles to enforce that distance, since they're admitting their load/vehicle is unsafe for normal traffic conditions.

8

u/iampierremonteux 3d ago

My thoughts exactly. I’d love it if those signs were used as evidence of intent to break laws regarding properly secured loads.

2

u/EurasianTroutFiesta 2d ago

The signs already have no legal authority. I don't know if they're ever used as evidence, but they sure won't prevent a ticket.

I saw a truck once that had signage that said something like "STAY BACK 200 FEET DUE TO LASER HAZARD." Never figured out what that thing was.

Narrator: It wasn’t removed ASAP.

33

u/PatMyHolmes 2d ago
  • Ron Howard's voice

248

u/jnads 3d ago

Eh, it's a cleanup cost, yes, but they'll just grind it all off with one of those road resurfacers / scarifiers. Besides concrete takes time to set, likely they can just scrape it to the edge with a road grader and rinse the rest off.

The bigger shit is all the caustic lime that got all the cars that's rusting out their frames and damaging the paint.

There's at least 5 cars here and they're all $5K (repaint)-10k in damages if not totalled.

129

u/KrispyCuckak 3d ago

They're probably all totaled vehicles, seeing as the modern car is damn near unrepairable anymore. Just the cost of replacing all those various sensors and delicate bumpers will exceed the vehicle's book value.

60

u/Illiterarian 3d ago

I know it's not the way the ecomony works any more but it would be cool if you could order all the individual parts to build your own car and do it yourself and save money on labor instead of having it cost $200,000.

69

u/Strostkovy 3d ago

I work for a business that doesn't sell certain things DIY because the cost of customer service to answer all of the customer questions exceeds the cost of our installation labor

20

u/Dozzi92 2d ago

I immediately think of HVAC stuff, certain companies will only sell to professionals to avoid the headache of me fucking it all up.

2

u/welguisz 2d ago

General Electric use to sell AC units. When Jack Welch figured out that the installers controlled the final quality, he sold that unit to Trane.

2

u/All_Thread 2d ago

There are sites for it though. Hvacdirect.com is where I bought all the stuff and just paid a local guy to put it all in saved like a shit ton.

8

u/Back6door9man 3d ago

Wow I've never thought about that but it actually kinda makes sense

3

u/AhoyWilliam 3d ago

You can, they're called kit cars (original eh?).

Unfortunately due to being such a niche interest, the economies of scale do not work at all in favour of the customer! But they're usually a means to get a replica (of varying quality/accuracy) of something older that now has a 6 or 7 figure price tag, so 30-50k on a kit is quite reasonable still.

2

u/Loggersalienplants 2d ago

184

u/Pimp_Daddy_Patty 3d ago

What's with that Mazda swerving all over the place?

181

u/Rekanlats 3d ago

Their swerving was not helping my stress levels at that time

59

u/Pimp_Daddy_Patty 3d ago

I believe it. After seeing that, I'd expect them to follow up with something extremely stupid.

53

u/perpetual_stew 3d ago

It’s like they can’t decide between avoiding the concrete or staying in their lane.

28

u/The-Phantom-Blot 3d ago

I think their right side wheels slipped badly (cause of the concrete that got tossed under them) and they had to straighten the car first - then realized staying in the lane was still dangerous - so they moved over a lane. Looks like pretty decent driving to me.

80

u/Outlaw11091 3d ago

.....wet concrete is worse than a fresh rain when it comes to traction.

Bet everyone's tires were ruined.

19

u/RustySilverSpork 3d ago

Ah yes the traction… that’s why we avoid wet concrete

OP's car would have sustained significant damage. You can seem them pulling over to the left shoulder at the end of the video. Likely shattered windshield and front end damage, not to mention the tires now being covered in wet cement. Quite dangerous to continue operating a vehicle under those conditions.

u/viper098 3d ago

The drums on these are constantly spinning. There's an auger on the inside of the drum. You spin the drum one direction and it keeps the cement mixing while in transit. You spin the other direction and it unloads the drum. I believe it's a pedal on the floor that controls speed and direction. He obviously reversed direction when he shouldn't have.

concrete trucks constantly run drum so PTO is probably always running. i'm a mechanic but i dont work on concrete rigs. dunno how they work. but a button or lever was switched on. the poop button

16

u/Beardo88 3d ago edited 1d ago

They have 2 directions to run the drum. It got switched from "transit/mix" to "discharge/unload." The drums should be rotating slowly while driving to keep the mix from setting, then turns the opposite way to unload at the jobsite. The driver screwed up or less likely a mechanical malfunction.

4

u/tsriecss 3d ago

When I was a mixer driver, this was my nightmare. I checked that lever and my mirrors so often to make sure it wasn't rotating in the correct direction.
