OC [OC] Semi driver makes u-turn on divided highway.

u/vanderhaust 2d ago
This should be an automatic removal of his license and never be allowed to drive professionally again. That level of stupidity could have killed many people.

u/fluffynuckels 2d ago
I don't think they should be able operate anything with wheels ever again after this. Not even a shopping cart

“What’s that? You’re paraplegic now? Too bad, my guy. You’re gonna have to get real clever with those crutches…”

We need to bring back the pillory in the public square as punishment for these sort of morons.
37
u/spiritjex173 2d ago
Something like that happened in Florida recently, and 3 people were killed.
17
u/vanderhaust 2d ago
I recently saw a news article on Canada where a professional driving school was teaching the bare minimum for students to pass. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in the US as well. There needs to be a serious crackdown.
25
u/Kern_system 2d ago
Appropriate story here. Illiterate and non English speaking people caught cheating for their CDL.

2
u/double_expressho 2d ago
But someone who does this...I don't think that can be blamed on a minimum-requirements instructor. That's just next level stupidity. Anyone that does this would've done it anyway regardless of how good/bad their instructors were. That's like teaching trigger discipline to a mass shooter.
1
u/vanderhaust 1d ago
I'm not blaming the schools, but improved education should lead to better drivers.

Absolutely. Professional drivers should adhere to stricter standards of driving.

This should be an automatic removal of his license and never be allowed to drive

u/MountainDrew42 2d ago
He should also lose his regular driver's license, his scooter license, and his fishing license.

u/InevitabilityEngine 1d ago
Didn't we just see something like this? Semi u-turned and a whole family in a car got cut in half when the top of their car hit the tow trailer.

u/vanderhaust 1d ago
I remember hearing about that in the news. It was such a tragic event. https://people.com/family-montana-including-2-kids-killed-car-crash-colorado-interstate-reports-11766627?utm_source=chatgpt.com

I'm pretty sure this is the story they are referring to, although the one you posted is also tragic: https://www.wwnytv.com/2025/08/23/truck-driver-accused-making-illegal-u-turn-that-killed-3-is-denied-bond/

u/FeistyIrishWench 2d ago
There was recently a crash in central Florida where a semi driver was doing an illegal u-turn and a minivan ran into the trailer portion, killing 2 occupants on scene and the 3rd later died at the hospital. Many comments in the news posts were relating how far an exit was to go back the other way and correct the missed exit.

u/0assassin3 2d ago
Pretty sure he did it to avoid a toll

Or a weigh station maybe. Where they also check your paperwork

I'm not sure how the law works in the United states but here in Australia that's vehicular manslaughter which is 25 years to life. . people still do things like this ... Needless to say they get away with alot worse some how.
33
u/FeistyIrishWench 2d ago
He is facing decades of confinement followed by immediate deportation.
19
u/sweetenedpecans 2d ago
And I hope he carries the shame of killing that family forever. So reckless and unnecessary
23
u/Kern_system 2d ago
He showed zero emotion after the accident. The dude has zero empathy, but life in India is cheap I guess.
14
u/JellOwned 2d ago
In Québec there's been 2 accidents with deaths THIS WEEK ALONE involving semis. They just found the driver that ran after the collision.

u/Kern_system 2d ago
The driver snuck into the US during the first Trump administration, and was denied work papers, but then the Biden admin granted him papers to work. California gave him a CDL even though he could speak no English, nor read street signs. He was pulled over in New Mexico for speeding and could not communicate with the police officer.

u/OceanSaltman 2d ago
What's worse is that person was an Illegal immigrant that had already caused a bridge to collapse in '21 by ignoring the weight limit sign, and he still managed to get a job again and kill people this time.
12
u/bstyledevi 2d ago
I've seen the illegal immigrant thing repeated, but the rest of your statement I have not heard from anywhere. Can you provide a source for that?
13
u/SoloPorUnBeso 2d ago edited 2d ago
From what I can find, it's not the same guy. I know it's a funny URL, but it's a local Arkansas paper, which is where the bridge collapse happened.
https://www.nwaonline.com/news/2025/aug/22/trucker-who-collapsed-arkansas-bridge-in-2019-not/
13
u/bstyledevi 2d ago
Yeah I kinda figured it was just a random person perpetuating unsubstantiated rumors online and presenting them as fact, but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt to back up their statement.

u/SoloPorUnBeso 2d ago edited 2d ago
He wasn't an illegal immigrant. They said he immigrated illegally from Mexico in 2018, but he was allowed to be in the country due to seeking asylum.
Edit: and from what I can find, it's not the same guy.

Yes. That's what I said. The only decent news source I could find says it wasn't the same guy. This is a paper local to the bridge collapse.

Links I've given give the same name, both of them, as the article you've linked
6
u/SoloPorUnBeso 2d ago edited 2d ago
Read around. That name is apparently as common as John Smith. Your second article (2025) doesn't say it's the same person, yet the local Arkansas article I posted explicitly says it's not him.
Here's a Reddit thread saying it's a common name.
There's a link in the top comment of that thread claiming it's the same guy, but that link has this passage:
According to CDLife, the historic bridge collapse occurred on January 30, 2019, in the Yell County town of Ola, Arkansas. However, Harjinder Singh is reportedly not the same driver who caused the collapse of a historic 88-year-old bridge in Arkansas back in 2019.
Edit: Here's an archived link from the Arkansas paper. The guy who collapsed the bridge was 35 at the time and this guy is 28.
I'm not trying to defend someone whose completely reckless actions took the lives of three people, but we should be working with accurate information. There are no credible sources proving it's the same guy, only that they have the same name.

Why do I feel like I'm seeing more of these bad semi drivers.
49
u/fluffynuckels 2d ago
In America they hand out cdls like candy
59
u/zytukin 2d ago
Especially to people coming over from India who hardly speak or read English and drive similar to how they did in India.
Blame the mega trucking companies like Swift, Schneider, etc for that. Pushing for importing drivers that will accept being treated like crap because they couldn't keep good drivers that didn't like being treated like crap.

Piss poor management. Truckers used to make a lot more and have a lot more time to get their loads to their destinations. Corporations are now getting more stingy. If the Trucker doesn't make it to his destination on time they risk losing the money for the entire job after they've spent countless hours driving, among plenty of other stupid things they've done over the years.
You're seeing more experienced drivers get out of the business while they still can and more and more newbies coming in who work for less and tolerate being treated like crap.

Why do I feel like I'm seeing more of these bad semi drivers.
Google Biden and CDL. Hopefully now with these high profile accidents, the current admin has enough ammo to undo all the damage he caused with that idiotic bill.

u/svu_fan 2d ago
I thought it was gonna be the truck in front of you… nope, full fucking ass truck ahead of that truck. WTF. Were you ever able to report this or get the info needed to report this? 😳
12
u/Phydeaux 2d ago
Unfortunately, no. As you can tell, the weather interfered with my ability to get any details on the operator.
9
u/maxman162 2d ago
Did you at least call 911 to report a vehicle going the wrong way on a highway?
5
u/sisisisi1997 2d ago
It's likely they wanted to take the exit a bit back, so I suppose by the time the police would have been able to do anything, they would be long gone.

I got all day, I would have stopped in the lane to block the idiot from going forward long enough for police to show up, get his license numbers and reported to local DOT.

Driver probably got his CDL from a box of Cracker Jacks. Or from the California DMV, same thing.

it's wild how even the smallest amount of rain causes so many people to become braindead behind the wheel. The road conditions call for more caution, and these idiots turn the idiocy up to 11

He should get several years in jail and never be allowed to drive ANY vehicle ever again.
1
u/SundySundySoGoodToMe 2d ago
Probably a construction site ahead that they were working on. I’ll bet he u-turns into that exit that OP just passed.
1
u/Yakking_Yaks 2d ago
If he took the next exit he could've driven for 6 miles in 10 minutes to get to the same point. I wonder how much time it took to turn around and go the intended way.
1
u/Learnin2Shit 2d ago
If your in this situation and you stay in your lane and get in a collision with the semi would insurance still have your back?

1
u/MasonMayjack 2d ago
There was an exit right there? Surely they could use that to turn back around, right? Or am I wrong.

You don't pay attention to news do you? Recently there was a major accident that killed a family when a truck driver pulled a u turn on a highway because California gave someone that couldn't even read road signs a cdl.
10
u/MobyDick-Led 2d ago
The comment below about a crash in central Florida also gives context- but there’s been a big deal in the news about California giving out CDLs to unvetted drivers, especially immigrants.

When they pay reddit to hide their posting activity it means they're racist.

Ok, this This is why in states like CT, NY, NJ trucks are not allowed on parkways, they are too high for bridges or overpasses. This clever guy decided to turn back before being arrested by the police.
